Vlad was surprised at how relieved he was to be back in his own skin, even if that skin was not as normal as it once was. There was something calmingly familiar about the fangs, or about the scent of Transylvanian dirt that scattered his home. It was his, and that was what mattered.
However, he had taken far too much time off of work. No doubt by now he was out of sick days, and would have to present some decent excuse to be absent from his position. Luckily he had Lucy. The young woman had proved herself invaluable through his time as Kevin Flynn and Vlad was happy to have come across her. Having set up a time for them to meet at the office to go over everything, Vlad started to review his missed paperwork to bide his time.
Luckily for Lucy being used to the strange ways of the OC she had been quick thinking and helpful while her boss had been indisposed. She'd rearranged a number of things for him and made sure his paperwork was ordered for when he returned. She knew he'd want that.
She enjoyed working with him, even if she did have to lay off the garlic. Knocking on his office door she smiled as she entered, "Good to see you back to normal boss" she greeted before sitting opposite him.
He glanced up and flashed her a smile, his teeth glinting a bit. “Thank you, Miss Pevensie.” Vlad set down the papers he was reading. “I am glad to see everything was kept so well in order. Not that I doubted you,” he clarified, “but it is nice to be validated in hiring you.”
“Glad I could prove my worth” she told him with a grin, feeling oddly reassured to see that toothy smile, “Even if the circumstances weren’t ideal for it” Because she would have rather proven herself without her boss being inconvenienced.
“It was rather an inopportune moment to come into a new job,” he admitted. “You handled it quite gracefully. I am slowly growing used to this strange place. I like to know that I have someone close by who doesn’t much bat an eye at it. And thank you, by the way, for putting up with my … Condition.” Vlad even managed to crack something of a smile. “But I have learned that there are many like me around here, and that the man I dream of being has something of a reputation.”
“I think you kind of have to adapt around here, there’s too much strangeness not to” Lucy said, she was a rather practical person after all. “I mean in my dreams my best friend is a talking Lion who in the waking world is a large cat that lives with us” she shrugged with a grin. “Oh that’s okay. Are you alright? I mean it can’t be easy, having others like you must help but I imagine it’s still difficult at times”
“Yes, I could believe that.” Vlad raised his eyebrows as she spoke of her own dreams, then quirked his lips up in amused smile. “It is interesting, the variety of these dreams. People dream of such unique things.” Then he shrugged. “I don’t find much help from some of them. It is a strange community and I do not think I would like much to belong from it.”
“It is. I sometimes think it would make a good book, like short stories which are actually just snippets of peoples dreams” she smiled before nodding, “I guess it can be a rather personal thing, especially with your kind of dreams. But you know if you do ever need anything you can just ask me”
“I know. You are a very good friend to have in my life.” And he meant it, as much as a man like him could. He looked over his paperwork and sighed. “I suppose I should begin to catch up on all of this. Oh - also, I would still like to send something to the Flynns for their hospitality during that ordeal.”
Lucy smiled, she hoped he'd always find her to be so. She was certainly pleased to hear it. "I guess so" she nodded, "They're organised by urgency" she added with a grin. "Of course. Any idea what?"
“Thank you. That will make it slightly more bearable.” Vlad’s lips quirked up for a moment. “Perhaps a night out. Flowers and baskets are much too overdone.”
Lucy smiled, "So dinner at a good restaurant and a night at the theatre?" she said, "I can arrange that"
“Wonderful. Thank you very much, Miss Pevensie. If there is anything else I need, I will not hesitate to ask you.” With another smile, Vlad began to dutifully answer his e-mails and sign his papers.
