Aramis is getting anxious. It’s been on and off for weeks, but recently he feels more and more unsettled. Restless, almost, but without any way to get rid of the excess energy. And each passing day brought his wedding closer, which brought with it more anxiety, and Aramis was trying hard to not be bothered by it. One step at a time, that was what he and Porthos had promised one another.
Arriving early at the shop for their appointment time, Aramis paced outside with a cigarette in hand. He checked his watch on and off, as well as his phone, hoping maybe by some miracle Athos would have to cancel. Which was stupid, he knew, because Athos would never do that unless it was an absolutely emergency. At least that thought momentarily brought a smile to Aramis’s face.
Athos was rather excited and happy for his friend. A wedding was a wonderful thing, especially one involving two of his best friends. But he knew that Aramis, much like D'Artagnan would be no doubt, was flustered. He hoped he would be able to help.
Smiling a little smile as he approached he nodded, "Aramis, everything okay?" he asked as he took in his friends appearance.
Aramis glanced over, smiling as he put out his cigarette beneath his foot. “Well. Apart from the fact that my life is changing dramatically in a short span of time, yes, things are good.” He let out a vaguely amused laugh. “Do I look terrible or something?” He continued to look amused as he opened the door to the shop, waiting for Athos to walk through before following.
“Changing dramatically for all the right reasons” Athos reminded him before smiling, “Not terrible just a little worried” he explained as he entered the shop looking back at his friend as he came in too. “Just try not to overthink it, you’re doing the right thing. Something that will make you ridiculously happy”
Aramis gave Athos a grateful smile. “Thank you. For … Pretty much everything in the entire time I’ve known you. I’m sorry I don’t show my gratitude as often as I should.” He gave his friend a squeeze on the arm, then signed them in for their appointment. As he waited for one of the tailors to come help them, he started to look over all the options in the shop.
“I don’t even know where to begin. I need something ivory, but I don’t know how I feel about black with it.” He glanced up at Athos. This was definitely not Aramis’s comfort zone. He was definitely good at throwing things together to look good, but he didn’t have Porthos’s eye for fashion. “It seems a bit harsh, doesn’t it? Formal, but harsh.”
Athos didn’t expect Aramis to thank him for anything really, he was a good friend and as such Athos would do anything needed of him. It was the right thing to do. But he smiled and nodded at the squeeze to his arm.
“Maybe a grey then? Or a dark brown?” he suggested, “I’m sure the tailors will help us. Don’t worry, we’ll find the perfect suit”
“Maybe.” Though Aramis looked less than optimistic. At the end of the day, he’d rely more on Athos’ opinion than the tailor’s. Thank God he wasn’t a woman and had to deal with dress shopping. “What about you and D’Artagnan? Have you started thinking much about your own wedding?”
“Not yet” Athos said, “I don’t want to overwhelm him, he’s still nervous after his pinterest scare” he smiled fondly, “We’ll get there. Little steps. Or I may just whisk him away somewhere so he doesn’t have a chance to worry”
“That’s what I wanted to do,” Aramis admitted. “I was thinking a few times of asking Porthos if he wanted to, but this is more for him than for me. I want him to have the big ceremony and party, because he wants it so much. Even if he doesn’t say it.” He shrugged a bit. “But if you end up whisking him away somewhere, it better not be without us in tow.”
"Don't worry I'll let you know. I'm fairly certain I know D'Artagnan would be happy with a small event. But whatever we do you and Porthos will be there. I can't imagine getting married without you both" Athos told him. He'd been thinking maybe Paris, It seemed fitting and they could enjoy it for their honeymoon too.
“Stop, you’ll make me blush.” Finally, Aramis grinned in earnest. He felt relaxed now, particularly with the subject of conversation not focused on him. But then the tailor was ready for them, and Aramis took a breath. “Honestly, you’d think after everything I could handle a suit fitting,” he said, tossing Athos a look with raised eyebrows. “I’d take getting shot at any day.”
Athos even chuckled too at that before patting Aramis on the shoulder. "I hope there's never a time I have to remind you that you said that" he said dryly, "Come on it'll be over before you know it and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about"
