Since coming back from Barcelona, Magnus and Alec hadn’t really gone out much since they had spent most of their time either at the Institute or Magnus’ house and most of the time ordered out, so Magnus had suggested that they go out for lunch when Alec had come over that afternoon. They had decided on a place not too far from The Institute so that they only had to walk instead of driving or creating a portal. After finishing lunch, Magnus had paid then they had started back towards the Institute, however a store caught his attention and he stopped in front of it, “This is Tessa’s book shop.” He had stopped in a few times since meeting Tessa in the waking world and now that they were standing right there, he couldn't not go in, “Would you mind if we stopped in real quick?” Alec and Tessa had met before, but Magnus had noticed that unless he was having a party, the Victorian Shadowhunters and the New York Shadowhunters didn’t interact often.
Alec had been trying to figure out how to tell his family about the dreams concerning Max. It wouldn’t be an easy task but he felt obligated to tell them before they had the dreams. After all, he would want them to tell him if the tables were turned. This made him a little more quiet but for the most part, he was always glad to spend time with Magnus. The ‘date’ was nice and he had no qualms about stopping at the book shop. He didn’t really know Tessa too well but he trusted Magnus’ judgement. “Sure, that’s fine,” he said as he let his boyfriend lead the way.
Tessa was just handing over some change to a customer when she heard the bell on the door tinkle, signally another patron. Looking up, she grinned upon seeing Magnus’ face. “Magnus! What a pleasant surprise!” she came around from the till to greet him as the previous customer headed out. “And Alec, how are you both? Come in, come in, to what do I owe this honour?” she welcomed them brightly.
Magnus smiled as they stepped inside and moved towards the register, “Good afternoon, Tessa.” It was always nice to see Tessa and reminded Magnus of the years they spent as friends in the dreams. She might not have been that far yet, but he was able to wait patiently until she was, “We were having lunch and were walking by on the way back to the Institute and I thought we’d come on and say hello. I mean, it would be rude to walk by and not come in, right?”
Alec gave a slight, almost shy wave to Tessa. He didn’t know her as well as Magnus did and he wasn’t sure what proper etiquette was, given the situation. “Hey, Tessa.” He glanced around the store, taking it all in for the first time. “What he said,” he said, with a slight smirk, not sure what else to add.
Tessa laughed at the two of them, they were very cute. “I would think it to be incredibly rude, but I know that neither of you are that rude so the thought never crossed your minds,” she replied to Magnus with a grin. “Are you alright Alec? Would you like a drink?” she asked kindly. She knew Alec wasn’t particularly talkative and that made him difficult to read at times, but she hoped they could get to know each other more. She looked forward to the day when he would at least become more at ease with her presence.
“No, I don’t think that either of us is particularly rude.” He glanced at Alec then back at Tessa, “So, how has your day been going? Been busy?” Magnus had never really read much just for fun, but being in Tessa’s book shop almost made him want to buy a book. He just didn’t know what kind of book.
Alec had taken to looking at the nearby shelves. He, certainly, did take to reading books on a regular basis. Lately, those books were the ones from the Institute's library and while they held history of the Shadowhunter’s and such, sometimes he needed a distraction that was in the form of a different kind of book. He was distracted from the books at Tessa’s question. “A water would be nice, actually,” he replied, softly.
“I’ve been ok recently thanks. The shop has been incredibly busy Myrcella keeps coming up with ideas for new events and Will and Jem have asked me to live with them permanently. I’ll be right back,” Tessa smiled at them as she headed back to the kitchenette just off the office. She knew that only one of those things would really catch Magnus’ attention. Coming back with a glass of cold water for Alec, she moved over to him and passed the glass over. “Do you see anything you like the look of, Alec?” she asked, referring to the books he had been looking at.
The part about living with Jem and Will permanently did indeed catch Magnus’ attention and as Tessa came back, he quirked a brow and crossed his arms over his chest, “Living with the boys permanently? When did this happen?” He knew that the three of them had been together for a few months now and he was extremely happy for them, considering the outcome of their story in the dreams. Sometimes he wanted to tell them what happened, but he simply couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Alec didn't know too much about Tessa's situation. He had met both Will and Jem, but he tried not to get too nosy. He took the glass of water with a smile and a "thank you." However, he gave a shake of his head to the question. "Not yet but if we are here long enough, I am sure that I will find something to take home with me." His focus then turned back to the shelves as he scanned the titles.
“Well just let me know if there’s anything you like the look of,” Tessa told him, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder before turning back to Magnus. “Um, at the beginning of this month. Jem proposed it, Will seconded it and I accepted,” she told him with a smile and a little shrug.
Magnus smiled as he watched Alec and Tessa then turned back to Tessa as she spoke to him, his smile widening a little, “That’s fantastic. So, what are the sleeping arrangements now?” Leave it to Magnus to be curious about how the three of them were sleeping now that they were all officially living together.
