Where: Tink’s Place
What: Waking up to something strange
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete
Tink was looking forward to a really low key Easter, even though the decision to make it so came at the last minute. Her brother and his wife were off with his wife's family, and the younger siblings were down with a stomach bug. So no one was headed to her parents' place this weekend. Tink was staying the hell away from all that.
She hadn't set the timer this morning. It was rare that both she and Anders had a morning to sleep in, but today was one of those days. They'd celebrated the fact they both could sleep in this morning by staying up really late last night. Now Tink was warm, sleepy, happy, and cuddled up with Anders and both cats in her bed.
Everything felt like a normal morning, but as Peggy began to wake she felt something strange against her chest. It was almost like someone was there, but she knew she had gone to bed by herself last night. Her mind was still a bit groggy from sleep, but she slowly began to open her eyes and gently turned her head only to catch sight of blonde hair. Definitely not what she was expecting to see and as she raised a hand to rub the sleep out of her eyes she noticed that her hand was quite masculine.
That raised a mental alarm inside of her and she quickly sat up, her eyes casting downward, and noticed the rest of her was quite male. A scream was building inside of her as she quickly panicked and got out of the bed as quickly as possible to find the nearest bathroom and see what in the world was going on.
Tink was pushed off of Anders’ chest when he sat straight up in the bed. She frowned a bit, shaken from her sleep, and lifted a hand to brush blonde hair from her face. “What’s up?” But by the time the words came out of her, he was springing from the bed and dashing toward the bathroom.
“Oh, shit, don’t tell me you’ve got a stomach bug, too,” she mumbled, then reached forward to scratch behind the little cat’s ears. She looked rather put out from being woken.
Stomach bug? Oh it was much worse than that. Peggy took a deep sigh as she stared at the strange face in the mirror. This man’s hair was longer than her own and his face was all sharp lines and angles. He was certainly an attractive and fit man, but Peggy was going to have to figure out how to be a man in this body. How awkward.
With an annoyed noise she stepped out of the bathroom and looked over to the woman in the bed with the cat, “This is not my body. My name is Peggy Carter and I’ve somehow woke up in the body of this man. Who is he?” Might as well rip the band-aid off now.
Tink sat up abruptly when Anders came back out of the bathroom. She lifted the sheet up to cover herself, though she was wearing some clothes. Some. She raised a hand to tuck her hair behind her ears, still processing in her tired mind what Anders was saying. Wait, not Anders? Someone else?
“Uh… Peggy what?” She asked, frowning with concern. “...is this an April Fool’s thing?”
“Wasn’t that the other day?” it was an honest question as a confused look passed over her new features, “Americans. Anyway, no, I’m not joking. It’s some kind of weird network thing, I bet. This isn’t my body and I don’t know who you are, so I’m sorry about that. I’m sure you’d rather have your boyfriend here right now than me,” She reached a hand up to brush some of the hair that fell into her eyes. This was so incredibly confusing and Peggy wished that she could easily explain it.
Yes, April Fool's was the other day. But Tink and Anders were the kind of people who would play pranks. She'd put that on hold for Easter, but was brewing something for Anders that would likely make him jump with surprise. That is, after whatever this was.
She raised an eyebrow. "Oh. Damn. Okay." She climbed out of bed, and Peggy (in Anders' body) was sure to see the wings springing from her back, near her shoulder blades. Oh, yes. Tink was a Dreamer. And she knew all about the weird network. "Let's get dressed and figure this thing out," she added. Because neither of them was wearing enough clothes for something so weird.
Tink moved to her closet to pull on a robe. Anders had clothes by the bedside.
“Wings,” she muttered gently under her breath as a confused expression passed over her face She had not been expecting that, but she had seen a lot more things that were stranger than that in her life. She watched a man turn from a tiny boy into a strong man, “Yeah, that would be a good first step. Okay, where does he keep his clothes?” She really wasn’t in the mood to snoop around the entire apartment until she found what she was looking for. If Tink knew where things were then way easier.
“Here.” Tink moved around the bed to help find clothes. He’d shed them in a neat pile on a chair that Tink kept by the bedside. It was her house, with a really nice garden on the other side of the sliding glass door along one wall. They were far enough away from the road that it was quiet.
She handed over pants and a shirt. The rest wasn’t important. “We should… if you’re in his head… where’s Anders?” She mused aloud, frowning just slightly. Was this one of those flip flop things? Was he inside this woman’s body, or was Anders somewhere else entirely?
“Um, he may be in my body. That would make the most sense. I could try giving my cell phone a call and see if someone answers. Or maybe ask my cousin to check and see?” Peggy was hoping that it was just a body switch and not some crazier thing where there was no rhyme or reason to what body they were in.She put the clothes on and ran a hand through the long hair.
"That sounds like a good idea. I'd call his cell, but..." It was there on the bedside table. Tink motioned to it, then gave a little sigh. "Here." She grabbed her own and held it out to the woman... wait, to Anders. To the woman in Anders' body. Peggy?
"You can try your own cell or your cousin's cell? I need to make some coffee." Or slam a Red Bull. Or both.
Tink turned to head out into the hallway. "Don't mind the cat!" She called over her shoulder. But the cat, a thin, small, grey tabby, came bounding off the bed and trotted off down the hallway after her. Perhaps the cat thought it was breakfast time.
Peggy voiced her thanks and then sat down on the bed as she unlocked the phone. This was just one of the weirdest things ever and she couldn’t believe she was going to have to call Sharon to warn she was in a different body and there was potentially someone else in her body. She dialed her own number by heart and frowned when it went unanswered. Oh well, time to try Sharon.
She dialed the number, it was good that she was so used to memorizing numbers, because otherwise she would have never remembered it. She set it against her ear as she looked around the room. Her heart jumped slightly when someone picked up, “Sharon? Ignore the voice, it’s me, Peggy.”
It was an unknown number, and for a split second Sharon considered not answering it. Then she realized she had to, it could be Peggy. She wouldn't know the number Peggy was using to get in touch with her. When she answered, she was so relieved that she had. "Hey, Peggy. It's okay, I know. Apparently, there's someone in your body claiming to be you. Where are you? Are you all right? ...besides the obvious?"
“That must be Anders. I woke up in his body and it makes sense that he woke up in mine. This is completely mental, Sharon. I’m at his girlfriend, Tink’s, place. I’m sure he knows where that’s at and we can probably do an exchange of some sort and get this sorted out. He didn’t freak you out too badly did he?” she had to make sure that Sharon was okay. Stress and the baby did not mix and she didn’t want anything bad to happen to her cousin.
“No, I’m fine,” Sharon said, trying to ease her cousin’s mind. “Anders seems to be a nice guy. We’re just having a cup of coffee. Well, he’s having coffee, I’m having tea. We’ll be over soon. Getting in the car as we speak.” Sharon glanced over at Anders, then clicked the fob on her keychain to let them into the car. She climbed in on the driver’s side to start the engine. “Hopefully Tink doesn’t live far from you.”
“Perfect, I’ll warn Tink that you two are coming and I will see you soon, ya?” Peggy was happy that Sharon was handling this so well. It was still one of the weirdest things ever and it could be a million ways worse, but at least everyone involved wasn’t fully freaking out. She hung up the phone and went to find Tink, “Anders and my cousin, Sharon, are coming over.”
"Sounds good." Sharon said, nodding once. She pulled away from Peggy's place to start the drive--wherever Anders told her to go. "See you soon." Then she hung up.
Tink was brewing coffee in the kitchen, and she was super relieved that Anders was on his way. Even if the Anders body was right in front of her. God, could this get any more weird? It seemed like everyone involved was used to this sort of thing, so they weren't having panic attacks. But it wasn't easy, either. "I'm so glad that you're cool. And your cousin's cool. I hope Anders isn't freaking out." She didn't think he would be, but she was concerned for him. Obviously.
It was not long after the phone call that Anders and Sharon pulled up to Tink’s house. Anders got out of the car, a little nervous. He was excited to see Tink, because he was sure being around her would help, but then again, maybe that would make it even more weird.
He walked to the door and rang the bell. Then he wiped his sweaty palms on his pants. He braced himself for seeing, well, him, though he wasn’t exactly sure how one went about bracing themselves for something like that.
Sharon stood beside the man wearing Peggy's body, frowning just slightly. She didn't like this. It felt like some kind of a trap. But she let him ring the bell. If it was his girlfriend's house, did he need to ring it? At the same time, though, he looked like someone else now. So maybe that made sense.
Tink rushed to answer the door. She pulled it open, still wearing her silk robe and holding a mug of coffee. (Though, to be honest, she'd drunk most of the coffee.) There were two women standing there she didn't know. "...Anders?" She said, hopefully. If it wasn't him, that would be a very strange way to greet someone at the door.
Peggy followed along behind and her face paled just slightly when she saw her body standing in front of her. God, this was completely surreal and she felt a little sick about it. “The brunette is my body and the blonde is my cousin, Sharon,” Peggy explained to Tink before looking at both of them, “This is all kinds of freaky.” It was a good thing that she was used to this kind of stuff happening before experiencing it for herself.
Anders smiled when he saw Tink, relieved that she, at least, was herself and a little more comforted just being in her presence. Before he could say anything however, he (Peggy?) walked to the door. His smile faltered. It seemed like however much he had been bracing himself for it, it still came as a shock. It felt, well, wrong seeing himself from outside of his body. He saw himself almost every day in the mirror, but now looking at himself, everything was on the wrong side and that was really weird. He resisted the urge to lift his hand and wave it, because he was pretty sure his body (his body, not the body he was occupying. Maker, this was confusing) wouldn’t follow suit.
“Wow, is that what I sound like?” he asked, and forced a laugh. “I had always wondered.”
Thank God the brunette was Peggy's body. Because Tink didn't want Anders to have to go through being pregnant. (Wait, the blonde was pregnant, right? Not just... kinda fat? Centered in her abdomen?) Tink nodded for a moment, her tentative eyes coming to rest on the brunette. She looked nervous. And Tink thought she might see something ... something? ...of Anders in there.
Then Tink gave a little laugh at the sound of the brunette's laugh. "Well, now you sound like an British woman. Wait, sorry, English? What's PC?" She asked, glancing over her shoulder at Anders' body.
"This is so weird." Sharon muttered softly. She was staring at Anders' body with Peggy inside. "Pegs, you're kinda hot."
“It is quite strange to hear your voice when you’re in your correct body,” it had taken her a moment to get used to watching herself speak while she was outside of her body. That was seriously surreal and it almost made her sick to her stomach. She was never going to get used to this. But Sharon’s comment did earn a chuckle from her, “Either is totally fine, Tink. And thanks, Sharon….that’s incredibly creepy, but hilarious at the same time. But, let’s head inside and talk about a plan of attack for dealing with all this.”
