What: Coffee and chat
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete
Caroline was actually looking forward to coffee with Myrcella. Because of her she didn’t have to worry about being around Jeremy anymore. Not that she hung out a ton with the younger Gilbert, but knowing that she could again just made her feel better.
She was just finishing up with what would likely be the last customer of her shift when Myrcella walked in. Caroline eagerly waved her over. “Hey!” she said with a bright smile. “Get whatever you want. On me,” she did get an employee discount after all. One of the many benefits of working at Baxters.
Myrcella was looking forward to seeing Caroline too. She was so glad they’d been able to work out a way to stop Jeremy’s hunter impulses and she had to admit she was pretty chuffed it was linked to his feelings for her. It made her feel special and loved.
Entering the bakery she waved back at Caroline, Jeremy’s bracelet secured around her wrist, and moved to place her order as instructed before she waited for Caroline. “How are you?” she asked, “Been busy?” because no matter when she came in Baxter’s always seemed to be thriving.
Once the customer was taken care of Caroline quickly made her way to the back to clock out before heading back over to meet Myrcella. “Sorry about that,” she apologized before answering her questions. “I’ve been pretty good,” as good as could be with all the drama that had recently been going on in her life, but no need to get into all that at the moment. “Oh yeah, it’s so busy here. But it makes the shifts go by super fast and the customers are all pretty great,” not to mention her manager and the owner. “How have you been?”
Caroline led them over to one of the tables. “Do you know what you want? Everything here is like amazing.”
Myrcella was glad to hear Caroline was okay, she did like the other woman and was so glad they’d found a way for her to be around Jeremy safely. She knew her boyfriend had felt awful about everything. “Oh I imagine it does, I know I prefer it when the bookshop is busy” she said, “I’ve been good thanks. Jeremy moved in so it’s really nice having him around more”
She nodded, “I know, it’s one of my favourite places to come” she admitted, “I love the sparkling drinks”
“The sparkling lattes are my favorite,” Caroline agreed. “Wait, what? You and Jeremy are living together now?” that was big news, exciting news. How the hell had she missed that? Oh right, the whole having to keep her distance thing.
She did notice the bracelet on Myrcella’s wrist as well. “Did Jeremy give you that?” she asked nodding at her wrist.
Myrcella nodded, "It's very recent" she said smiling, "He and Elena are selling the house so since I have my own place it made sense you know?"
Lifting her wrist and playing with the bracelet she answered, "Yes he did. He wanted to keep me safe, I know it isn't needed but it makes him feel better and I like it"
It was weird how little she knew about Elena’s life now, but that happened as you got older. Elena was busy being married and Caroline was busy with like a million different things. Oh well, life happened. “Still, that’s a big step. And super exciting.”
It might not be needed around her, but there were other vampires out there who could compel her too. “Better to be safe than sorry,” she wrinkled her nose. “Okay remind me to not use that cliche ever again.”
“Oh it is. It’s incredibly exciting” Myrcella agreed, she was ridiculously happy now that they got to be together more. Even with their busy lives it was perfect because she got to go to sleep and wake up with his arms around her.
“There are worse ones don’t worry” she laughed, “But the general idea was right”
“Well as long as I got the idea right,” Caroline said with a laugh. “You don’t have to worry about me though, but then I guess all the vampires would say that,” of course she kept her voice low at the mention of what she was. “Not everyone is like me though,” although she didn’t think any of the vampires she knew would try to compel Myrcella, it was still better to be safe. She had compelled the random barista a time or two, not to mention all her professors to get a passing grade.
"Oh I know. It's not personal, I promise" Myrcella assured her, "Jeremy has a hard time with the dreams sometimes and me wearing this helps him to feel better so I do" she explained and her too in a way since she was sure there could be someone out there not as sweet as Caroline.
“That is so cute. Is it weird that I still find it weird that Jeremy is like a boyfriend and living with his girlfriend. He’s just so grown up now.” Not that Jeremy was that much younger than her, but she always saw him as Elena and Katherine’s kid brother.
Myrcella laughed, “I don’t think it’s weird. I still find it strange when I talk to my brother and his friends and I realise as they’re talking that he’s growing up fast. I guess it’s kind of the same” she said with a grin.
“Probably. I mean I don’t have any siblings of my own,” but the Gilberts were probably as close as it got. Even if they were all living their own lives now they had all grown up together. “So what else is new with you? How’s the book shop?”
Which was why she’d made the comparison because she’d heard about them all being close. “The book shops great, we’ve been really busy since we did an event for World Book Day and then Easter” she smiled, “And I got a special merit on my latest project for my course too” she added softly, she didn’t like bragging but she had been very happy to get that.
“That’s awesome. I barely passed my classes,” technically she didn’t she compelled her grades but that was beside the point. She probably would have passed if she wasn’t so distracted with the news about her father. “What was the merit for?”
“Oh I’m sorry. Do you not enjoy them?” she asked curiously, not realising Caroline had received distressing news. “Oh I had to do a before and after series of all different make up styles and they gave me the merit which put me at the top of the class. It was quite nice”
“Some of them I do some are like super boring. But life tends to get in the way too,” she shrugged. “That’s is really great. You totally have to do my makeup sometime!”
“Life has a habit of that, especially here. Strange things seem to happen all the time” Myrcella noted, “I’d love to” Myrcella said, “You have really nice skin” she added with a smile, because she tended to notice these things.
“As if having the dreams weren’t bad enough,” but oh well. What could you do other than accept it all? Caroline didn’t see the point in being bitter about it. She usually tried to find the bright side in any situation.
“Thanks,” Caroline replied returning the smile. “You know what we should do? You should like come over and do my and Anna’s make-up and then we can go out, have a girl’s night out!”
“Right?” Myrcella agreed, “You’d think we’d get a break but apparently not” She, like Caroline, usually tried to be accepting and as happy as possible.
“Oh I love that idea” she nodded, “That would be great. Anna was one of my models for my project so I’m sure she’d be happy too”
“Well that’s settled then. We have to do it,” and just like that her usual bright smile spread across her face.
