Pepper still couldn’t quite believe they were here. She had known he was planning a trip to Hawaii of course, but she had begun to wonder if he’d changed his mind when weeks went by with no mention or hint of it. And then he’d whisked her away and they were now in a private villa with a pool, jacuzzi and who knows what else. Pepper couldn’t say she minded, she was just glad that she’d been shopping with Rachel before Tony had surprised her, she had a few outfits just made to blow his mind.
Tony hadn’t given Pepper much notice. He’d texted her to pack a bag, and an hour later they were on his private jet. (At least he hadn’t gone with one of his original ideas, to cram them both in suits and fly there. Pepper might not have liked that idea.) He’d arranged for dinner at a nice restaurant, and checked into the most expensive hotel on the island.
Dinner was lovely. Drinks, and back up to the hotel. It was getting late, and Tony was tired. He was debating putting this off until tomorrow, but as they were standing on the balcony with champagne glasses in hand, he decided the time was right.
“Pep, you know I’m bad at these kinds of things.” He set his glass on the railing, and dug in his pocket.
Had Tony gone with his original idea he’d have found himself in Hawaii alone, although she wasn’t as terrified as her dream counterpart she wasn’t overly keen on a five hour flight in an Iron Man suit for her first experience of it. The private jet was much more comfortable even if she had found herself on board sooner than she’d been expecting.
Once back at the hotel she still found it hard to believe they were here and even more so when Tony spoke, she was sure she was going to wake up back in the OC. “You aren’t as bad as you think” she said softly with a smile, “Not with me”
“C’mon, Pep. You know I am.” Tony said, smirking softly. He pulled the small box out of his pocket, and then slowly lowered to one knee. “...I just hope I’m doing this right. Because I’d hate to have to do it all over again,” he added, then cleared his throat and opened the box.
“Pepper Potts.” He got kinda clammed up. “...I’ve never loved anyone or anything as much as I love you. You know I do. I can’t function without you. You’re the only piece of the world that makes everything else work properly for me. I want you to marry me. Please say you’ll marry me.”
Pepper had held her breath from the moment he got down on one knee, it was one thing to think about it and hope for it but it was quite another to have Tony actually propose. Giving him a watery smile she nodded before dropping down to her knees to wrap her arms around him, “Yes, of course I’ll marry you. I love you so much Tony, I can’t imagine ever being without you”
Tony wrapped his arms tightly around her, having noted the water in her eyes, and feeling his own. He gave a soft chuckle. “Now just tell that bastard to stop cutting those onions.” He said, turning to press his nose into her hair. He didn’t want to let her go.
But he hadn’t shown her the ring yet.
Pepper chuckled before sniffing, “I know right? They’re pretty strong” she held on tightly stroking his back before pulling back slowly and smiling at him. “I love you” she said before pressing a kiss to his lips.
“I love you.” He responded, then returned her kiss. Gentle. Dry. Soft. He pulled back after a moment, lifted a hand to wipe under his eyes, then brought it back down to open the ring box for her.
The ring was pretty spectacular, if he didn’t say so himself.
“Oh Tony” Pepper breathed as she saw the ring, her hand trembling as her fingers touched the box, “It’s beautiful. Perfect” she said, a tear slipping down her cheek. It wasn’t too ostentatious, it was truly beautiful and the design reminded her of the arc reactor.
Those were the two things Tony was looking for. He wanted something that fit her personality, but that would remind her of him every time she saw it. He leaned in and kissed her lips once, quickly, then set about taking the ring out of the box and sliding it gently onto her finger.
“I hope I got the right size.”
“It appears you did wonderfully” she said with a smile as the ring fit exactly right on her ring finger. She took a moment to look at it on her finger before looking back up at Tony, “How about we start celebrating now?” she suggested with a naughty smile. One she reserved for Tony alone.
“Celebrating? You mean…” Tony stood up from where he was bent on one knee, bringing Pepper along with him. He knew what she meant, and boy, did he want to celebrate with her. Now. On every available surface of the penthouse suite. But he teased her instead, “I already ordered champagne.”
Pepper smiled as she wrapped herself around Tony, “Oh I can promise some cork popping” she purred with a rather sultry look before she kissed him deeply. Tony wasn’t the only one who could tease.
Tony actually gave a laugh at that. He couldn’t stop grinning. At least he wasn’t crying anymore. His arms wrapped around her, pulling her close up against him. He dropped the ring box and focused completely on Pepper, now every thought of champagne out of his mind.
She thought he would like that. In all honesty Pepper quite enjoyed embracing her cheeky side and Tony was rather supportive of her doing so. When the heated kiss ended she rested her forehead against his, “I think I’d rather like my fiance to take me to bed now” she said with a grin.
“Yes, Ma’am.” Tony’s arm tightened around her. Then he was bending down to swoop her up into his arms and carry her off toward the ridiculously large and comfortable bed in the suite.
