Lucy had arrived early at Baxter’s to meet Celaena and had grabbed them a table and sparkling lattes ready for when her friend arrived. She had a lot to tell her about her interview and new job offer. It was exciting, for Lucy at least and she rather liked her eccentric boss. She’d even been enjoying the new dreams she’d been having.
Celaena was enjoying the sunshine as she walked through the streets to Baxter’s. Sunglasses on, a wide brimmed hat and a light white bolero, she was the picture of summer. Pushing the door open to Baxter’s, she waved at Izzy over where she was working behind the counter and moved over to where she saw Lucy sitting. “Well hi there you, not been here long, I hope?” she asked as she slid into the booth opposite Lucy.
Izzy waved back and Lucy smiled, she knew they were good friends and while she had limited interaction with Izzy herself she liked the girl. “Hey. Nope not long at all, don’t worry. Just enough time to get our drinks sorted, see still hot” she said pushing Celaena’s towards her. “You look rather summery, I like it” she added with a smile.
"Thanks," Celaena smiled and deposited her bag on the seat next to her then taking her hat off to place on top of it. "I figured I'd preempt summer," she grinned, folding her sunglasses and sliding them onto the table next to her before wrapping her fingers around her cup. "So, how have you been, trouble?" She winked at her.
"Its a good idea. The weather is warming up, it's nice. My parents say it's still cold in the UK" she replied, rather glad she was here in nicer climates. "I'm good" she laughed, "I have a new job. Another PA gig" she smiled.
“That’s great! Congratulations!” Celaena grinned and reached over to squeeze one of her friend’s hands. “Tell me all about it! Who for? Where? Can we still have lunch breaks?” she winked at her friend.
“Thanks I’m really glad I have to admit I was kind of hoping for it” Lucy admitted, “His name is Vladimir and I am sure I can still have lunch” she grinned, before looking around and lowering her voice, “There’s something else too. My new boss - he’s a vampire”
“A vampire?” Celaena repeated, leaning forward and dropping her voice. “As in sharp, pointy teeth, turns into a bat, enthrals his victims then drinks their blood vampire?” she asked. Just to confirm, because let’s face it - it’s not everyday one of your friends says her new boss is a vampire.
Lucy nodded, "Yeah though so far he's only got the teeth, light sensitivity and dislike of garlic and crosses. No enthralling or drinking that I know of" and he seemed too polite for that kind of thing.
“What if he does? What if his employees turn out to be...y’know, food too,” Celaena winced as she suggested it. She’d hate to imagine Lucy sat at her desk before being called into his office to be snacked on or worse.
“I don’t think so. His company checks out and he is very polite and kind” Lucy said, “Maybe I should take some self defence lessons just in case” she joked, she had very few worries in that regard.
“Hmm,” Celaena couldn’t help but still be a little worried. “At the very least have a crucifix and garlic in your top drawer,” she told her, trying to make it sound light but actually meaning every word of it. “I can put you in contact with Damian, he’s good with self-defense,” she offered, taking a sip of her drink.
“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry, I’ll be careful” she promised her friend, “Oh? How are things coming along there?” she’d mentioned her interest before but this sounded promising.
“I...we’re still friends,” Celaena shrugged. “He came over the other day to train but we ended up talking about the Dreams instead. We...hugged, a lot, which was nice but...I don’t know,” she shook her head, looking down at her cup as she ran her finger around the rim. “I’d like to think he’s interested but he’s not said or done anything to really indicate he is,” she sighed.
“Boys are confusing. It would be so much easier if everybody just said what they were thinking and none of this confusing body language reading guesswork” Lucy said, it was part of the reason she had never been too bothered. “But hugging is good right? And hanging out?”
“Yeah,” Celaena sighed and leant her chin on her hand as she thought about it. “You know what,” she sat up and slapped her hand down on the table. “Next time I meet him I’m just gonna...grab him and see what happens,” she decided. “What could go wrong? At least it would set some boundaries of some sort, right?” she said to her friend.
“Yep totally” Lucy nodded, “I think it’s a good idea. At least then you can stop worrying about it right? You’ll know one way or the other”
“Exactly! Anything’s better than this torment, right?” Celaena agreed, taking a drink. “So what about you? Any hotties at your new place?”
“It has to be” Lucy says before laughing, “Not really. I have to admit though I don’t really look, I’m okay on my own right now”
“Yeah, but there’s no harm in looking around,” Celaena winked at Lucy. “You can appreciate a hot bod even if you don’t want to be with said hot bod,” she grinned. “Besides, those outfits we bought you will get you noticed,” she teased over the rim of her cup before taking another drink.
“I’ve always been one of the boys rather than one looking at the boys if you see what I mean” Lucy said, “Dating and all that was always my sisters thing. Which is why I needed so much help with shopping” she added with a smile.
“Fair enough. I don’t care. I like you just the way you are,” Celaena smiled and raised her cup to clink with Lucy’s.
“Well thanks” she said, tapping her glass to Celaena’s, “I like you just the way you are too”
