Who: Hiccup Haddock and Tony Stark When: Mid March Where: The dragon hanger What: Tony comes to see the dragons for himself Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete when posted
His dreams had briefly affected his relationship with Toothless because he couldn’t fully get past what had transpired. But thankfully he was able to dream past that point and see that he couldn’t really be angry at Toothless for what happened. Since then he decided to spend more time with him and try to fix that in his mind. He had picked up the slack that he had saddled Astrid with while he was waiting for the dreams to progress.
He was inside the hangar at the moment cleaning up and getting ready to feed the two dragons when he heard the sound of a car pulling up. He wasn’t expecting Astrid to come by at the moment, so he made his way over to the door to investigate. It took him by surprise when he saw Tony Stark, THE Tony Stark, get out of a car. He knew Pepper was associated with him, but didn’t expect to see the man for himself.
It wasn’t every day that Tony got to go see Dragons. He and Pepper had talked about it, and he wasn’t ready to go see them without their master in residence. Even with the suit to protect him. He didn’t want to overstep bounds. This Orange County Weirdness made everything strange, and he didn’t want to make things even stranger. So he waited for one of the kids to take a visit, and headed over.
“You must be Hiccup.” Tony said as he approached. “I’m Tony. You think we can schedule a visit?”
Okay, take a breath Hiccup. There was no reason to be completely intimidated by one of the coolest dudes in the entire world. He blushed and had a bit of a goofy smile when he nodded, “Yup, I’m Hiccup. And it’s great to meet you, Mr. Stark. And schedule a visit for the dragons? You can come in right now if you wanted to see them.”
Coolest and richest dudes in the entire world. Possibly the entire galaxy. But who’s measuring? “It’s a pleasure,” Tony said, reaching out a hand. Pep vetted these kids, so he trusted them. As much as Pepper did, anyway. He stepped forward to shake Hiccup’s hand. “And I’d love to see them.” Beat. “Should I be wearing my Suit for this? Do they breathe fire?”
“Toothless does a plasma blast, but you should be totally fine. They’re really relaxed and if they sense that I trust you then they will be fine,” he explained after he shook Tony’s hand and then opened the door so that Tony could enter in, “The black one is Toothless, which is my dragon, and the blue one is Stormfly, which is my girlfriend’s dragons. They came pretty well trained from our dreams, so that was really nice.”
“That is, assuming you trust me.” Tony kidded. He was kidding! He moved to follow Hic through the doorway and gasped at what he saw in the hangar.
Dragons. Like, real life Dragons. Black and Blue and they were… amazing. Tony was in awe.
For the first time in possibly his whole life, Tony Stark was speechless.
It was moments like this that he loved showing off the dragons. He wasn’t in it to turn them into some sideshow at a circus, but he really enjoyed seeing the amazement in people’s eyes. It reminded him so much of the first time he had dreamt about dragons and Toothless. The dragons had turned their heads to see who had come through the door and Hiccup gave a whistle for them to come closer. “When they come over I recommend holding out your hand so they can smell you first.”
“I’ve seen a lot of things in this world,” Tony said, eyes never leaving the huge beasts in front of him. He lifted his arm, tentatively, obviously a little nervous about this (because hey, have you SEEN how big those teeth are? And Tony really wanted to keep his arm, thanks.) but he was not the kind of person who backed down from a challenge. Ever. “I have never seen anything like this.”
“It’s pretty surreal isn’t it? I never would have expected them to show up here,” Hiccup answered him as he watched the two dragons approach cautiously. He reached out to stroke Toothless when he came within reach and the two dragons sniffed Tony’s hand. And it only took a moment before Stormfly nuzzled against Tony’s hand and made a noise of acceptance.
“It’s amazing.” Tony said, completely in awe. This was a Tony that few people had a chance to see. There were so few times in his life that he was honestly, genuinely, shocked by something he saw. Now was one of so few. He stepped forward a little, watching Hiccup with his large, majestic creature. And he gave a soft chuckle when the dragon responded to him. “Wouldya lookit that.” He said, breaking into a grin. “He likes me. He really likes me.”
“She, you have charm with the ladies. Although Toothless seems quite interested,” which was quite true because Toothless was currently sniffing around Tony’s body like a cat. And suddenly the dragon got to his hair and gave a snort of acceptance before giving that goofy grin that Hiccup knew so well, “Haha, yep, you’ve been accepted.”
Tony actually laughed at the snort. It blew his hair all over the place . Not that he had a whole lot of hair to get messed up. He reached out his other hand toward Toothless, cautiously. “They’re just… you, sorry, you’re amazing.” He spoke, this time to the dragons. “And I apologize for getting your gender wrong, m’lady.”
“She doesn’t mind,” Hiccup admitted with a laugh. Sometimes there were dragons that you couldn’t identify the gender outright. He didn’t think they would be offended by things like that, “So, I’m trying to get them more adjusted to being around here and hopefully will be able to take them out flying sometime with other participants. They’re quite fine with Astrid and I, but I also want to make sure it’s somewhere safe that nothing can happen to them.”
“Other participants?” Tony asked. “You’re going to bring other riders along when you take them out for a flight?” He would be more than willing to join in the fun, but he’d be in his suit. Would the Dragons understand that or would they freak out? He’d have to bring the suit here for them to see. Perhaps they’d smell him inside and understand it was just clothing. Awesome clothing, but still just clothing.
“Yeah, I’d like to let other people experience flying on a dragon. I mean, it’s a pretty surreal thing, so why not let others enjoy the fun? Astrid and I would be along to help, but it certainly requires more training because we don’t want something to happen to anyone,” Hiccup knew that he would have to work on all sorts of saddles and such in order to ensure safety so it was definitely a pipe dream for the moment.
Tony nodded. “Well let me know if you need help with the planning. I’d be willing to assist if you need saddles or holsters or whatever else constructed.” He had labs to do that sort of thing.
“Perfect, I will definitely do that. I’ll have to talk with Astrid so we can come up with a game plan,” Hiccup appreciated that Tony was willing to help him out with that stuff because it would probably be more than he could handle by himself, “So, do you have meetings to get to or would you like to watch them fly around in here?”
“I always have meetings, kid.” Tony said, giving Hiccup a half smile. He gave each dragon one last pet. “Keep me appraised of any developments. Send me blueprints if you want me to build anything for you.” It’d be a fun project. Keep his mind off things. “Enjoy your time with them. We’ll talk soon.”
His comment earned a similar half grin from Hiccup. He really wasn’t looking forward to becoming an adult. For now it was just classes and dragons, which was enough for him, “Sounds good. Let me walk you to the door. And thank you for stopping by, it was really cool to meet you.” He gave Tony another smile as they made their way to the door.
