Severus Snape wasn't much of a sailor. He didn't know the first thing about ropes or masts or port or starboard. He could do charms, though, so on top of the life vests adorning both of his children, they were protected by air cushion charms. If either child fell overboard, they'd simply float on a cushion of air above the water below. And Severus Snape could fly. He wasn't concerned with water or drowning.
Not really.
He headed to the dock where he was supposed to find the ship, and before he had a chance to look, Daisy was gasping.
"Daddy! Daddy LOOK!" She bounced up and down in her galoshes (since they were the ones with the mermaids on them, and they were going to a real pirate ship) as she waved her hand in the general direction of the boat. "DADDY! WE'RE GOING TO SEE A MERMAID!"
David, who wasn't quite walking yet, was in Severus' arms bouncing his not-quite-one-year-old body up and down in excitement. He was chirping something that sounded a lot like "Ake!" though it was likely he was talking about Jake from the Disney television show.
Snape let Daisy take his hand and tug him off in the direction of the ship, looking in wonder up at the riggings. It was a magnificent boat indeed.
