Tink was thrilled to see Peri’s wings. She invited her sister over so they could check things out. Everything was up in the air as far as her work situation, with the Old Man dead and no idea what was going to happen to the Garage, but Tink was feeling a bit more optimistic now. Peri had her wings, and that was something to celebrate! And she’d been thinking about this guy a lot, which made her a bit happier.
She made some popcorn, grabbed some drinks, then sat at her tiny kitchen table while she waited for her sister to come over.
Wings!
Actually wings!!
It wasn't like that Peri wasn't aware that she would get them one day. Not only were they a part of what she was but Tink had wings. It only made sense that eventually whatever caused the dreams would bring them to her. She just had to hope and be patient. Still it came as a surprise because she wasn't expecting them for a little while longer.
Of course her first stop would be her sister's. There was no way that she wouldn't want to share this with Tink.
As soon as she could she started towards her sister's apartment. Knocking on the door lightly as she waited.
Tink rushed to the door and pulled it open. “Peri!” She said, and reached forward to wrap her arms around her sister.
Of course, her wings were glowing. Iridescently almost glittering, a rainbow of shimmers. Tink freed them from the shirt she was wearing through the slits she’d designed for them. The stitches that Anders put in her sliced wing were holding, even now as her wings glowed from being so close to Peri’s.
“Come in! Show me!” Tink beamed brightly--brighter than she’d felt in weeks.
Without having to be asked a second time Peri took out her wings to show her sister. The wings were glowing just like Tink's wings were. It was just like the dreams, when they were close to each other their wings would glow. She was glad that it was something that wasn't lost in the real world. It had made her feel more connected to her sister.
"Aren't they beautiful?" she said as she turned around to give Tink a better look.
“Oh my God!” Tink said, gasping and clapping. She pushed the door closed behind her sister. “They are! Look!” Tink turned a little to show that her wings were glowing, too. “It’s just like in the dreams!”
In excitement Peri twirled around again. It was like she was whole, like she was completely herself with those wings on her back.
"I couldn't believe I actually have them," she squealed. "I was starting to doubt that I ever would."
Now both of them had their wings. Even though Tink's wings were broken. Which kind of put a damper on her joy.
“Do you… I mean, do you want to fly? I’ve got plenty of pixie dust. I’ve got the gold kind and the blue kind.” It just kept appearing from the Dreams. As if she was getting her daily dose, appearing on her night stand every morning. “I can’t fly right now, but you can.”
Did she want to fly? Could that even be considered a question? It was like asking if she wanted to breathe but she was sure Tink already knew the answer.
"Of course I do!" she said excitedly.
Although the excitement in her face and voice faded when Tink said that she couldn't fly. "What about you? How are we going to fix you?" She needed to make sure her sister was going to be okay. She hadn't dreamt about fixing the wing problem yet.
“Well… there’s something we could try.” Tink said. She took hold of one of Peri’s hands. “We just have to go back to back, and line up our wings. Would you mind?” Her wings were shimmering, she really wanted this to work.
There wasn't anything that Peri wouldn't try to help fix her sister. Even if she wasn't entirely sure on how it would work. It didn't sound like anything that would fix Tink's wings.
"Yeah, let's try it," she said as he gently squeezed Tink's hand.
It wasn't a second after that she started to turn around. Her wings out and waited for her sister to move. She was hoping that this would work and that this would fix Tink's wings.
Tink turned around, too, and pressed her wings against Peri’s. She whispered “pleaseletthiswork” a few times under her breath, but she could feel that it was working. There was a huge light coming from their wings, and the slash across Tink’s upper wing was healing. Right before their very eyes! ...to coin a cliche.
It probably went without saying but Peri was hoping it would work to the point that her body hurt. It wasn't just healing someone it was being able to fly with her sister. To not have her sister most literally grounded.
So when their wings touched and Tink's started to heal it was the best moment. She watched from the corner of her eye as her wings healed her sister's. She guessed that maybe it was similar to what had happened in the dreams.
"It worked!" she squealed.
Tink gave a shriek of excitement that turned into a peal of laughter. Actually, she was crying, too. Laughing and crying, she turned around and hugged her sister tightly. “Oh my God!” She exclaimed. “It worked! Peri, I can fly again! I can fly!” She finally released her sister. “We should fly now! Do you want to fly? We should go fly right now!”
It had appeared that the dreams had not only gifted her with wings, finally, but her sister as well. By giving Peri her wings she was able to heal her sister's. Maybe the dreams or whatever caused them thought that they could both use something good at the moment. Especially Tink.
Peri laughed as she wrapped her arms around her sister. It seemed like they were equally excited that it worked.
"What are we waiting for?" she asked taking a step away from Tink. "Let's get flying." She couldn't wait another second.
Tink gave a little squee, then grabbed her bag of pixie dust so they could go for a fly. It warmed her heart to know that soon she’d be flying with her sister.
