Lets dance! Maybe we’ll hook up!
Who: Ahsoka Tano and Alyssa What: going dancing When: Last week Where: A dance place? Status: complete rating: PG-13
Ahsoka was making friends at a rapid place, and it was kind of frightening and kind of fun. She just had enough time to shower and clean up before Alyssa arrived. She chose a short red dress and bounced on her feet like she had ants in her shoes while she waited.
Alyssa had picked out a short hot pink skirt and fitted white top - nothing too scandalous, but for her it was definitely more of a clubbing outfit. She put on her heels and was ready to go, and soon moved to knock on this Ahsoka girl’s door. Friends her own age were good.
She opened the door and grinned at the pretty red head. “Hey! Uhm. I’m ready to go, if you are!” Plo Kloon wasn’t even home so she’d left a note, so he wouldn’t worry. But he’d probably worry. She grabbed her purse and stuffed her cell phone inside. “It’s nice to meet you.”
Alyssa smiled, reaching out to give the other girl a light hug. “It’s nice to meet you as well.” She hoped the other girl wouldn’t give her grief over her accent. “So, do we have a place in mind yet? I know a place that plays dance music from all over the world, if not.”
“I don’t exactly get out much,” she admitted, ducking her head sheepishly. “I was hoping that you’d have a good idea of where we could go.”
“Global dance music it is,” Alyssa grinned. “And if any blokes give you a hard time, punch them in the bollocks. I’ll help if you need me to!”
She found herself grinning. People really did say bollocks! It was officially the funniest word she’d ever heard. “Thanks! And that’s a great place to aim.”
“Can’t do it too hard though, or the pain creates natural painkillers. Some people just power through it, which is not what you want in a fight,” Alyssa beamed, guiding Ahsoka toward the car.
“Hmm. What if you like…” She formed a claw with her fingers and mimiced yanking.
“Same. You can flick, if you’re focused enough.” Alyssa mimed flicking an ear, grinning. “Just enough to give them the hint. But if you’re in a fight, yank if you must.”
“Yeah. There are more honorable ways to fight, but sometimes you can’t afford to not fight a little dirty.” She grinned, buckling up. “Don’t tell my sensei I said that.”
“I won’t, promise. Mine encouraged it, but she’s gone now.” Alyssa smiled a little sadly before putting the car into gear and heading toward the highway.
“She sounds awesome.” Ahsoka shifted a bit in her chair, looking out the window. She had the strangest feeling in her gut. Something she couldn’t explain. She thought maybe it was nerves. Was this a date? Play it cool it’s just girls thing.
“Wherever she is, I’m sure she’s being awesome. She’s my best friend, really.” Well, besides Logan. Alyssa switched on the radio, humming along with Katy Perry or whoever it was, sometimes she couldn’t keep pop music straight, driving surprisingly carefully.
Ahsoka nodded. “Yeah, one of my friends growing up moved away, I kind of miss her.” She watched Alyssa drive, then turned her eyes to the road. “How often do you just randomly find people to go dancing with?”
“Oh, not often, but I don’t know. I just moved back here and all of my dancing friends were gone. Besides, if you’d been some pervy old bloke, I’d have punched you and left.” Alyssa shrugged, stealing a glance at Ahsoka. “Besides, dancing keeps my mind off of things I don’t want my mind on.”
Ahsoka wanted to ask what Alyssa meant, but that wasn’t her place. So she just nodded. “Well, let’s let the music do the talking?”
“Indeed.” Alyssa swung into the parking lot of the club, parking in the back so nobody would jack up her car. Sure, it was just a secondhand, older Prius, but she didn’t really want to replace it. And she could walk through Hell in heels, and didn’t plan on getting drunk.
Getting out of the car, Ahsoka elected to let Alyssa lead. She didn’t know the territory, but nothing felt wrong or out of place. She couldn’t sense any disturbances (though why she was trying to sense any she wasn’t entirely sure about). “Will they even let us in?”
“It’s an eighteen-and-over club, you just can’t drink.” Alyssa got her hand stamped at the door, taking Ahsoka’s hand and offering it up to be stamped as well. Once they were inside, Alyssa moved her clutch and smiled. “I mean, they’ve got fizzy drinks if you want one? But no booze. Unless you’re me and snuck it in with your clutch.”
“Fizzy drinks are fine but I avoid the real stuff unless it’s like New Years.” Ahsoka started, and stared at Alyssa. “You snuck some in? Really? That’s so cool!”
Alyssa just smiled and shrugged. “It was legal for me for years, and I hate that I can’t here. Plus, it keeps anyone from sneaking things into my drink.”
“Oh right, it’s a lower age in England isn’t it?” Ahsoka hadn’t wanted to say anything about Alyssa’s accent. It didn’t bother her (it was actually kind of hot) which was interesting considering how many people had it in her dreams. Like half the galaxy was British.
“Sixteen for beer with a meal, eighteen to just drink at a pub, yeah. But my mum would buy me booze starting when I was fifteen, just because she felt a good G&T should be something anyone can have.” Alyssa smiled in fond remembrance.
“Your mom sounds awesome.” Ahsoka had never known her own parents, but Plo Kloon (master Plo Kloon? The thought was weird) wasn’t that strict, at least. But he wouldn’t approve of the alcohol thing. “So fizzy drinks?”
“She was ... complicated.” Alyssa sighed, not really wanting to talk about Nancy, but she did want to get drinks. She took Ahsoka’s hand, leading her toward the bar, and also so they wouldn’t get separated.
Ahsoka appreciated that. She wondered if Alyssa would spike her drink. She was feeling more and more rebellious the longer she was out and she thought she might as well live it up a little. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to bring anything bad up.”
“It’s fine, really. We didn’t get on all that much while she was alive, at least not toward the end.” Alyssa shrugged, tucking her hair behind her ears. It only hurt because of how close Alyssa and her mother had been in the dreams.
She bit her lip, then leaned over and wrapped an arm around Alyssa and squeezed. “Think about the good times instead.”
What, all five of them? But it was meant well and they’d just met, so Alyssa returned the hug. “Come on. Drinks.”
“Drinks.” Ahsoka furrowed her brow, then gave a mental shrug and grinned at Alyssa. “I’m really thirsty and it’s warm in here!”
“It’s always warm in clubs, it’s the hormones!” Alyssa grinned and leaned down across the bar to smirk at the bartender. “Oi, gorgeous, one coke and one fizzy water, yeah?”
“So that’s what that is.” She leaned against the bar, watching as Alyssa practically laid across it, then quickly averted her eyes to check out the other dancers. “I met this guy the other day. You could climb him like a mountain but I was too chicken to go through with it.”
“Have you shagged anyone before? The first time’s allegedly better if it means something, but dunno. Mum always said as long as you want to, as long as it’s fun, and as long as you can respect yourself, you should do them. ... long story, Mum was a perv.” She beamed and took the drinks, handing Ahsoka off the Coke and waiting a moment before tipping the gin in her flask into the soda water.
“No. Never have. I mean I’ve made out and touched and stuff, but that’s as far as I’ve gone.” She wrinkled her nose. “It’s bad to form attachments.”
“They hurt you,” Alyssa murmured. “That, I understand.” She was glad the bartender had put a lime into her water, as it made the drink actually taste decent. “People are the worst.”
“It’s kind of hammered into me.” She shrugged a shoulder. “I’d like more friends though. I don’t really connect with the people at work. Ahsoka sipped at the coke and coughed, then grinned. “Oh that’s nice.”
“Well, consider me a friend, then.” Alyssa smiled at Ahsoka, squeezing her hand. “More of those is never bad.”
“Thanks.” She blushed a bit, then started at her drink before taking a big gulp. The last time she’d danced had been prom and the less said about prom the better. But she was still nervous.
“Want to go dance? Or do you just want to mingle?” Alyssa saw the girl’s cheeks go red, but assumed it was gin, or the heat.
A little in column A, a little in column B, and a little in column C. Ahsoka nodded, grinning and pumping her fist into the air. “Lets dance! Maybe we’ll hook up!”
Pause.
“With other people, I mean.” Cue mental facepalm.
Laughing, Alyssa took Ahsoka’s hand and walked with her out to the dancefloor. It really was good to have friends; it helped her remember she was never really alone.
