Who: Peter and Lucy When: Early March Where: Peter and Caspian’s home What: Wedding talk Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
It figured that Peter had the day off and Caspian had to go out for some reason or another. He’d said he wouldn’t be long, so Peter had decided to spend the time while his fiance was out to start looking at tuxes on-line. He and Caspian had just settled on a date for the wedding and while they hadn’t actually told anyone yet, they had started looking at various things for the wedding, which was really only looking through Pinterest. So now, he was sitting at the kitchen table, laptop open as he browsed through a suits and tuxedo site.
Lucy was still job hunting, she’d had a couple of interviews but luckily thanks to a really rather nice severance package from Harry she wasn’t going to be struggling for a while yet so she could take her time in finding somewhere. Walking into the kitchen to get herself another drink, still in her pyjamas, she looked over her brothers shoulder. “Ooo penguin suits, does that mean you have news?” she asked him, she’d been wanting to know when they were getting married since they’d gotten engaged. It was exciting.
At the sound of Lucy’s voice, Peter turned towards her, smiling, “We might.” He knew that Lucy would be extremely excited to know that they had set a date for the wedding, “We might have decided that we’re going to get married on August first.” He planned on telling their parents and siblings the next time he spoke to them, which in their parents’ case would be that weekend when they Skyped.
Lucy actually squealed with excitement then and after a few bounces on the spot she moved forward to hug her brother happily. “I am so happy for you and I cannot wait” she told him, “If you need me to do anything just let me know”
Peter laughed as Lucy hugged him, happy that she was so happy for him and Caspian. “I knew you’d be excited about that. We probably will need some help. I mean, we’re gonna be doing this all on our own.” Sure, his parents would probably help from England, if they could, but Peter and Caspian wanted to do as much as they could on their own, “I have to tell mum and dad this weekend.”
“Of course I’m excited” Lucy said, “My big brother is getting married! It’s an exciting time. Excellent, well I will do what I can to help you guys out” she promised, “Oh Peter they are going to be so happy. Mum will want to fly straight over you know”
“It’s going to take some convincing to make her stay home until the wedding.” Peter said, still smiling as he gazed up at his little sister, “Because, you know that if she did come out here she wouldn’t want to stay in a hotel cause she’d want to be right here for every detail of the planning and this house can’t hold a fourth person.” With only two bedrooms, there was just enough room for him, Caspian and Lucy. “So, you and Cas will have to help me convince her to stay put.”
“Of course” Lucy said, “Luckily Susan is taking some pretty important exams or tests or something soon so we can absolutely use her as a reason for mum to stay. We just need to remind her that Susan is the one who needs her support and wouldn’t it be nice just to come here for a relaxing holiday. That kind of thing” Lucy could work their mother when she had to, one of the perks of being the youngest.
Peter laughed, nodding, “That’s perfect. I knew there was a reason you were my favorite. Although, if you mention that to Su or Ed, I’ll deny it.” He knew that if anyone could pull off convincing their mother to stay in England until the wedding, it was Lucy. “So, want to see some of the tuxes we were looking at last night?”
Lucy beamed, “I know when I’m onto a good thing, my lips are sealed” she told him. He was her favourite too but he knew that. She’d ended up following him to America after all. “I’d love to” she nodded enthusiastically as she grabbed a chair and sat down next to her brother.
Truthfully, Peter loved all of his siblings equally, but somehow he’d gotten on with Lucy best of all, which really made no sense since he was the oldest and she was the youngest and one would have thought that he’d get on better with Edmund who wasn’t quite as young as Lucy. It was strange how these things worked out sometimes.
When Lucy was sitting, Peter scrolled back up to the top of the page and pointed out a tux in the second row, “This is one of the ones that Cas likes. We haven’t quite decided if we want to wear the same kind of tux or different ones yet, so right now we’re just looking to see what we like and we figure we can decide then.”
“It’s nice. I can definitely see him in it” Lucy said, “I like the idea of different ones that draw out the best in both of you but I’m not really a fashion adviser” she said with a grin.
“Do you think we should ask Su?” Susan had always been much more into fashion than anyone else Peter knew and it might be worth asking her opinion on the tuxes, but at the same time, he was worried that she’d try to take over. Not that he would let her of course.
“She’s probably the best one” Lucy agreed, somewhat reluctantly. “Send her links and ask what she thinks in an email, she can’t bamboozle as much in email as she can over skype” she grinned.
“That’s probably a good idea. Harder to steal the spotlight from across the pond.” Peter smirked and scrolled down to another tux that he particularly liked, “I like this one for myself if we go the different tuxes route.” If it was this difficult for him and Caspian to decide on tuxes, he could only imagine how much harder it was for a bride to find the perfect dress.
“Exactly. Besides hopefully she’ll be busy with her exams and won’t be able to try and take over” Lucy grinned, “Oo that’s nice. I like the lapel shape” she said, pointing to the screen.
“That’s one of the things I like about it too.” Peter scrolled down a little more, “And this one.” He pointed to another one, “I’ll have to email Su this weekend and send her the links. I can only imagine what going to try tuxes on is going to be like.” Most grooms and brides went with their respective friends for tux and dress fittings, but Peter didn’t really have any close friends in Orange County so chances were, he and Caspian would be going together.
“Well I can go with you if you like” Lucy said, “We’ll have Susan’s notes on what she thinks would look good and I’m not so fashion blind that I can’t see if it suits you. I can do the same for Caspian too” she offered.
“We’ll have to figure out exactly how we’re going to do it, but thank you for the offer, Lu. I’ll keep that in mind for sure.” He knew there was the whole superstition of seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding, but did that still work for them? Did they ever believe it? He’d have to talk to Caspian.
“Always here big brother” Lucy told him giving him another hug, “I really am so happy for you you know that right?” she said quietly. He was one of the most important people in the world to her after all and she wanted nothing more than to see him happy.
