After parking her car, Elphaba pulled her bag off the back seat and locked the car before heading up the steps to the front door. She still had a few minutes to spare, and after getting directions from reception, she found herself entering the room Alucard had booked for them. Pushing her way into the room, she smiled as she saw him already there. “Good afternoon, I’m Elphaba. Mr Alucard I presume?” she asked, walking towards him and reaching out her hand in greeting.
Alucard still wasn’t sure what possessed him to offer a lesson to the woman from the net but then if it helped direct her in the right path what harm could it do? Irisa was improving greatly and he’d have to keep in mind that this woman was not at that level.
“Pleased to meet you and please just Alucard is fine” he said shaking her hand.
"Ah, ok, Alucard it is," Elphaba smiled in return. "Thank you so much for help with this, I really appreciate it," she told him genuinely. "Um, where do you want me to put this?" She asked, referring to the bag on her shoulder.
“It’s no problem, I’m glad to be able to help” he told her smoothly, “Oh just pop that to the side of the mats. It’ll be fine. Are you wearing comfortable clothing you can move in?”
“Yeah, I just threw on my yoga gear, is that ok?” Elphaba asked as she dropped her bag down, then looked at herself. Close fitting ¾ length workout trousers and sports top with her hair tied back into a slightly messy bun. She moved back to stand in front of him.
Alucard nodded, “Perfectly fine. You have no idea the outfits some people seem to think appropriate for exercise” he told her, he’d seen women in full make up at the gym before. Honestly, ridiculous. “Now, we’ll start with some basic blocking” he said, beginning slowly.
“Great,” Elphaba smiled. “Me blocking you or you blocking me?” she asked, feeling nervous now she was stood in front of him. Alucard was quite intimidating in real life. His tall and slender frame seemed to belie his strength and his calm demeanour and deep voice were oddly hypnotic, giving his whole demeanour a deadly feel.
“You try and block, it will help me see your weak areas. Don’t worry I’ll go easy on you to begin with and we’ll try it in slowed down time” Alucard replied before moving forward to throw a punch her way.
Elphaba nodded as he spoke and watched for his punch, managing to deflect it with her hands and stepping back. In the most un-macho way possible, in fact, even though she would deny it later, she let out a little girlish squeak. She looked up at Alucard and gave an apologetic smile. “Sorry,” she said, wiping her hands on her legs.
Alucard made it easy, obviously, mostly so he could watch her form and natural movements. Laughing a little he waved off the apology, “Not at all. Do that in a real attack and I think you’d shock your attacker enough to let you run away”
Elphaba let out a relieved laugh at his response. “Well, I’ll call that plan b then,” she joked, licking her lips and stepping back to stand in front of him. “So uh...is there a way I should be standing, I feel a bit...exposed to your attack is all,” she gestured generally to her body as she stood facing him.
Alucard smiled, "Good idea" he said before nodding and the lesson really began as he ran her through a series of stances and moves. Though he made sure to remind her that in an attack she may be caught off guard so needed to be able to respond no matter how she was standing or where the attack came from.
By the time Alucard had finished showing her the basic moves, she was aching and in desperate need of a drink. Wiping the hair that had fallen out of her ponytail back, she thumbed over her shoulder. “You mind if I get a drink? I don’t think I’ve ever done that much activity before,” she joked.
“Of course, please do. Anytime you need to stop for breath or a drink just let me know” Alucard said, gesturing for her to get her drink. “You’re doing well” he told her.
“Thanks,” Elphaba moved over to her bag and retrieved her bottle of water. “So have you got any idea which discipline might suit me? You mentioned judo and jujitsu in your messages,” she took a long drag from her water bottle, letting out a relieved sigh when she’d finished.
“Jujitsu I think” Alucard said, “It would play to your strengths more. I have a colleague who runs classes in and around Irvine. I’ll give you his contact details when we’re done” he promised.
“That would be great, thank you,” Elphaba smiled gratefully as she put her water bottle back next to her bag. “So, what else can you show me?” she grinned at him, setting her mind to the task at hand. It was exciting to have a new challenge.
“Not a problem” he told her before smiling, “Well now what a question” he teased, “Come on let’s step this up a bit” She’d do well if she kept up this level of enthusiasm.
