When: End of February
Where: Mini Golf Joint
What: Having fun
Rating/Warnings: None
Status: Complete.
Lissa parked in the practically empty parking lot of the mini golf place she had suggested Rose to meet her at so they could have some fun. It was actually a nice day out, no snow and hardly any clouds but there was a slight wind that set a chill in the air. Putting her sunglasses on top of her hair she walked past some ridiculous animal hedges and tried not to grin. She couldn’t recall the last time she and Rose went and did something silly and relaxing like this, they were just both so busy, they hardly seemed to see each other even tho they lived in the same condo.
Seeing that she had beat Rose, she went ahead and paid for both of them and then got a water and corn dog from the concession stand and sat on top of one of the picnic tables as she slowly ate and waited for Rose to make her appearance.
Rose was only a couple minutes behind Lissa, which was pretty impressive for her since she tended to run on the late side sometimes. She had stopped off at the store to pick up a couple things she needed at home and didn’t want to try and get after they were done with mini golf. The idea of mini golf had been a great suggestion by Lissa and she couldn’t wait to just have a silly night with her best friend.
Once her car was parked she headed inside and spotted Lissa at a picnic table. The whole park looked so old fashioned that she couldn’t wait to see if there was a castle and a creepy clown head. Her hand raised in the air and a smile appeared on her face, “Oh hey there! Are you ready to get your butt kicked in mini golf?”
Lissa waved and hopped off the table and threw away her corndog stick, brushing her hands on her pants she grinned, “Kicking my butt? You forget that my dad loves to golf and has pushed me to try it at every opportunity!” She turned around and grabbed the two putt putt clubs and the balls, turning back around she asked, “Baby blue or pink?”
“Yes, but that’s real golf. Mini golf is a whole other kind of beast and I came to win,” She teased with a laugh as she reached out for a club, “And blue, please. Pink is far more your color.” It was no secret that Lissa was the more girly of the two and she actually looked good in the color. Rose took the club from her and then the two of them started to walk towards the first hole. It was wrapped around a tree with a bank around the corner and didn’t seem too difficult.
Lissa couldn’t help but grin, she tossed her pink golf ball up in the air and caught it easily. “So if we’re taking this seriously should I grab a score card and one of those horrid tiny pencils they expect you to be able to use?” She asked as she eyed the first putt, seemed easy enough and it was a par 3, which made it seem even easier, she gave a smug grin to Rose.
“Yes, I think you should,” Rose countered with a similar smile on her face. There was a reason the two were best friends and it was because they knew each other so well and exactly what to poke at to get a good reaction out of the other, “And I will also be nice enough to let you go first, how about that?” Granted, she really just wanted to assess Lissa’s skills before attempting her own.
Lissa laughed before replying, “Such courtesy! But first let me get a card.” She jogged off and then set the small paper and pencil on the pedestal before looking at the first putt again, she set her ball down and then gave it a generous hit, she watched as it bounced off the back wall and landed relatively close to the hole. “Booyah!” Lissa stated and gave a little booty shake.
“Holy crap, how did you do that?!” Rose’s jaw dropped as she watched what Lissa just managed to do. And she certainly started laughing when her bestie started doing that booty shake. Really, Lissa, really? “Okay, okay, that was a pretty good start. I will admit that, but you are so going down later.” Rose walked up to the start of the hole and putted. Her ball didn’t go as far as Lissa’s, but it at least managed to clear the bank and get in the same vicinity of the hole.
Lissa threw back her head and laughed, “I warned you!” She grinned and hushed up as she watched Rose line up her shot, she smiled and said, “Good job!” Before taking the small trip to her ball and easily knocking it into the hole, “That’s a two for me…”
“I hate you so much right now,” Rose teased her with a grin as she watched Lissa sink her ball on the next stroke. Okay, apparently Lissa wasn’t all talk and Rose should be prepared to get her butt kicked. But she never backed down from a challenge and now she was determined to at least keep up on what Lissa scored. It took her two more shots to get the ball in, but she was glad she was only behind by one stroke instead of more, “Alright, next hole!”
“Not bad you made par!” Lissa commented and started moving onto the next, she was enjoying this immensely. After hitting her ball and it being decently close to the hole she turned and looked at her friend and with genuine interest asked, “How the love life going?”
She stepped up to the start and prepared to hit her ball when Lissa asked that question and she stumbled with her putt. "Doesn't count! You threw me off. I get a redo," she quickly declared as she grabbed her ball and reset, "Ok, love life. Going well. I really like Tom. I mean we're not really putting labels on it, but it's nice. What about youuuuuu?" When she finished she finally putted and was in the same area as Lissa, which made her grin.
Lissa chuckled at her friend as she totally failed, but kept her mouth shut as she took her turn again. She smiled when she watched where Rose’s ball settled, walking towards hers she listened to her talk then started to shake her head the moment Rose asked about her own love life. “Nada to update you on, seriously bored here and the scene,” Lissa paused then admitted, “but then again I haven’t tried much.”
“Tom’s brother is back in town. He’s around our age, decided college wasn’t for him, and is back to work in the family business. If Tom’s any indication then I’m sure he is cute. Want me to find out more?” Rose tested the waters with Lissa wondering if this could be a possible match or not. It would be highly amusing to see herself and Lissa dating a pair of brothers, but she hadn’t met Tom’s brother yet. But all the more reason to meet him if they did have a double-date and even if Eddie seemed like the player type you never know what could happen. Maybe a few whirlwind dates would put Lissa on the right track dating-wise.
Lissa bit her bottom lip as she listened to Rose and easily sunk her ball in and stepped away for Rose to take her turn. Smirking she replied, “Really, Rose? Trying to set me up? Do I seem that desperate?” She nibbled on her bottom lip, maybe she was that desperate to accept a silly set up date, but then again what was so wrong about focusing on her studies? An internal struggle warred in Lissa’s mind as she waited her turn, she couldn’t help but feel that if she did venture out of her college induced bubble that she’d be happier.
“It’s not a big deal! Set ups are totally an okay thing to happen. It wouldn’t hurt just to go out on a date with him, right? Besides, it gives us a chance to hang out on a double date and we haven’t done that in forever,” she and Lissa used to date guys that were friends just so they could go on double dates together. No one really seemed to notice and they were always able to disappear if the dates were going badly. Besides, Rose knew that Lissa needed a little spice in her life and dating certainly helped bring that forth. She sunk the ball in on her next stroke and they walked to the next hole.
Lissa shrugged, she thought about what Rose said as she sunk her ball in on the first try. Doing a lil jig she stuck her tongue out at Rose and boasted, “Beat that!” Grinning she stepped aside and added, “I guess one date won’t hurt anything, but if the dude doesn’t want to go on a date don’t force him or have his brother do that!”
“Oh my god, you are totally kicking my ass right now. I hate you,” Rose whined as she went to putt and only managed to get it in with three strokes, which sent her further away from Lissa’s score, “And don’t worry, I won’t force the guy into anything. I’m sure he won’t be able to say no to taking out a pretty girl for at least one night.” She knew that most guys couldn’t resist once they saw how beautiful Lissa was and she had the amazing personality to back it up, so she doubted she would need to do any kind of forcing.
“Sorry.” Lissa replied feebly then offered, “I usually get worse the more I play.” Lissa started walking towards the next hole and said, “I guess I wouldn’t mind as long as he knows it’s just a friendly meeting not meant to be serious, you know?” She threw a smile over to Rose as she set up her next shot, she didn’t make it in by far.
“Alright, I’ll make sure he knows this is just for fun. And I’m thinking about how to take our your knees so you can’t play anymore,” Rose teased with a laugh as she went to putt next and managed to get the shot to end right next to the hole, but it didn’t go just in. This time it was Rose’s turn to dance around, “Ooooooh yeah!!!”
Lissa laughed and poked Rose, “Alright, good job,” She shook her head and lined up her shot and ended up resting right by Rose’s ball. Frowning Lissa mentioned, “I guess if you need to you can move my ball a little…”
“Nah, I should be okay,” Rose wiggled around to try and find the perfect spot to hit her shot. She should be able to make it without knocking Lissa’s ball and she held her breath as she made the putt. Thankfully that was what happened and her ball sunk into the hole and Lissa’s stayed stationary, “Oh thank god. I was going to feel bad if I hit your ball out of the way.”
Lissa clapped and smiled, “Well done!” She moved towards her ball and shot it in easily, although for a moment she held her breath thinking it was going to curve at the last moment. Picking her ball up she looked to Rose and thought aloud, “We may tie.”
“You’re going to jinx it,” Rose commented with a laugh as they moved to the next hole. It was a definite possibility, but she hoped that they had a clear winner. But then again, it really wasn’t that horrible if they tied, “So, what else has been going on? Hiding in the library for hours on end still?”
Lissa lined up her shot at the next hole and her ball bounced against the back wall before settling. Moving aside Lissa shrugged her shoulders as she replied, “I’ve been trying not to limit my studies there, I’ve been exploring cafe’s and such since we’re in a new place.”
“Haha, I do have to say that I’m quite proud of you. We should totally plan a fun trip somewhere though,” Rose mentioned as she lined up her shot and totally overshot. She grumbled under her breath and made her way towards her ball, “We could go back to visit the family or we can go do something wild and crazy.”
“Not too proud tho, I haven’t done anything too exciting.” Lissa grinned and watched her friend before following her. She shook her head, “I’m quite fine not visiting family. So that leaves wild and crazy. I do believe you are overdue on your bad influence on me and we should go all out.” Lissa paused and bit her bottom lip before saying, “I suppose the clearest answer would be spring break, but it seems too far off.”
“I always need to have a bad influence on you. It’s been too long. Stop denying me,” Rose teased her best friend with a laugh and pointed her club at her playfully, “Spring break would be perfect. It’s far enough away that we can start planning now and not get slammed with marked up prices the closer it gets. What would you like to do? We could go down to Mexico somewhere or Florida. Or maybe go on a cruise? There’s so many ideas!”
Lissa grinned and held up her hand in the girl scout salute and stated, “I will not refuse the bad influence!” With a giggle she hit her ball in the hole then replied, “I refuse to go to Florida.” She gave a mock shudder, “But Mexico or a cruise would be awesome!”
“Let’s do a cruise to Mexico!” Rose laughed and then reached over to playfully bump her friend as she went to putt, “I think that’s the best way to settle it. Okay, so is this our last hole? Please say it is because you’ve totally kicked my ass and now I want to go home and plan this trip.”
“Ok! As long as we find one with free alcohol…” Lissa mumbled and then laughed, “Yes last one!” She set up her shot and her ball rocketed into the alligator’s mouth, she grinned, although they wouldn’t know where their balls would land.
“Oh totally. All-inclusive is definitely the way to go!” Rose could totally agree to those terms before going up to the starting point and hitting her ball into the alligator’s mouth. She quickly grabbed Lissa’s wrist as they went around to see what happened to their balls. She let out a gasp of surprise, “Oh look! Mine is super close!”
Lissa laughed and kept up with Rose’s pace, otherwise her friend would’ve dragged her around the last putt putt. She looked at their balls and gave a fake whine. “Much closer than mine!” Grinning she set up her shot and managed to make it in. “Finish it up!” She announced and leaped gracefully off the green.
“I think you still beat me anyway,” Rose pointed out with a laugh before sinking her last putt. She fished the ball out of the hole and laid her club against her shoulder, “I am so bad at this. Some day I’ll have to get around trying this more often so I can kick your butt next time.” There was a laugh with that comment as she walked over to Lissa and playfully bumped their shoulders together.
“This is one activity that I can actually beat you at!” Lissa pointed out with a grin, it was true though, when it came to anything like this or sports related Rose could always beat Lissa. She poked Rose in her side before heading back towards the hut to turn in their rented gear. “What are you up to the rest of the day?” Lissa asked conversationally as she pushed her hair away from her face and looked over to Rose.
“Not a whole lot. I’m thinking we should hang out and start planning this trip to Mexico and imagining the warm sunny beaches. And I am quite impressed that you are still able to beat me at this game. I am just not meant to play mini golf,” Rose pointed out with a grin, “I bow down your putt putt skills.”
“We should make margaritas and turn up the heat at our place.” Lissa joked half heartedly, becauses really margarita sounded divine. Rolling her eyes she added, “I’ll have to let my father know that endless nagging on the golf course actually paid off.”
“Let’s do it!” Rose heartily agreed to that idea, it sounded like so much fun! “And yes, please let him know, haha. Alright, we can leave from here and head straight home. Or does one of us need to pick up some margarita ingredients? Oh! We should have tacos too!”
“We should just stop at that super target together…” Lissa grinned, target was her poison. She bumped Rose with her hip, “We can grab stuff there, I’m pretty sure we still have patron.”
“Oh god. You would bring up Target. Okay, I will meet you at Target and we can go crazy buying things for our trip to Mexico party,” Rose knew that it would be better for the two of them to go together or else Lissa would spend all evening there. It was a good thing that they were best friends and able to know each other’s quirks. At least she knew they were going to have a fun night tonight.
Lissa grinned and hugged Rose quickly, “Yay!!” She cheered and practically skipped to her car. “Shopping, shopping, shopping, Target!” She sung and gave a laugh at Rose before giving her a quick wave, “See you there!”
