You saved me...
Who: Laura Hollis and Carmilla What: Laura dreams of Carmilla's fate When: A few nights ago Where: Dorm Status: complete Rating: Pg-13 for adult situations
Laura woke up crying. No. No. The dream world couldn’t end like that. Carmilla couldn’t...she couldn’t die. She wasn’t supposed to die.
She couldn’t stop the tears or the sobs. She took a shuddery breath and glanced over at Carmilla’s bed. Which actually had Carmilla in it. Laura wasn’t sure what she would have done if she’d woken up and Carmilla had been gone.
Laura slipped out of bed and crawled into Carmilla’s. The vampire’s back was to her. She wrapped her around her tightly and hid her face against Carmilla’s back as she continued sobbing. Carmilla was here. Carmilla was alive. Here. But she was dead in the dreams.
It was the stupidest idea ever. But for once in her life Carmilla was going to be stupid. She was going to do the heroic vampire crap because she was in love with a dense, truth-obsessed adorablesexy woman. A woman she was certain hated her now. She just needed to get her hands on that sword...
She didn't sleep much, which meant the dreams weren't as frequent but tonight had been different. She'd felt exhausted (partially Laura's fault). The movement in her bed brought her back to consciousness. And then the feeling of wet and warm tears soaking through her tank top, and the sound of Laura crying.
The woman was wrapped around her, so she tried to twist her head around. "Cupcake?"
Laura clung tighter at the sound of Carmilla’s voice. She couldn’t manage talking, not just yet, but a slight keening noise did escape. Holding on to Carmilla was...helping, slowly. But it didn’t change the fact that, in the dreams, dream Laura wouldn’t have the chance to hold dream Carmilla like like this. Or tell her how she felt. Or kiss her. Or...anything.
That noise did more to break Carmilla's heart than nearly anything else. She shifted, turning in Laura's arm, then reaching down to help the short woman hook her leg around her waist. For more comforting. She didn't know what to do, just kissed her forehead and tried to rock her.
Eventually, Laura’s sobs calmed, and her tears slowed. She sniffled and took a shaky breath. She hid her face in the curve of Carmilla’s neck. If she looked in the eyes right now, Laura was pretty sure she’d crumble again. She swallowed against the lump in her throat.
“...you died…”
"Yeah. The dean killed me when I was eighteen, remember?" She tried to sound sarcastic but her voice was quiet and there was fear in her stomach.
“You died died! You killed the light-that-devours and you died...” Laura clenched a hand in Carmilla’s tank top. “You saved me...you saved everyone...and you died...”
The ice in Carmilla's stomach spread through to her limbs, and she dug her fingers into Laura's back. "Guess I found.. found that sword."
She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to quell a surge of panic. She pressed her lips to Laura's cheek and whispered. "I'm here Laura, I'm still here and I'm not going anywhere, you got that?"
Laura relaxed a little, then. “Is...is it too soon to say ‘I love you’? Because dream me didn’t...didn’t get the chance to say it…” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. If she tried to speak louder, she was sure her voice would do that weird cracking thing.
Saying it in texts was one thing. Implying it. But hearing it made Carmilla feel lightheaded. “You better be serious about that. I can’t…” Her eyes closed and she forced herself to breathe. Which was entirely literal in her case. Her voice scratched in her throat. “Say it again.”
Laura took a deep breath and pulled back just enough to see Carmilla’s face. “I love you. And I’m serious about it.”
Gently, Carm brushed at Laura’s face with her thumbs. She bit her lower lip, eyes darting across Laura’s face. “What if I say it and something takes you away from me?” But then, something took her away from Laura, and here Laura was, pouring her heart out. “I love you.”
Laura started to tell her that even if she said it and something took Laura away, at least she would have gotten to say it. But then she said it. So Laura kissed her instead.
Carmilla held Laura's face with one hand, the other snaking underneath her to pull her closer. When she felt like Laura needed to breath, she turned her head. "Do you think this is all too fast, sweet thing? Us.... we've only known each other one semester."
Which effectively matched their dreams.
“That’s longer than it takes some people to get married. Which is...maybe not the best comparison because not all of those relationships last, but...I do love you.” Laura leaned her forehead against Carmilla’s. “And I didn’t want anything to happen to you before I got a chance to say it. Because...not getting to say it hurt like hell…”
“You really love me there?” Carmilla propped herself up on one elbow, staring at Laura like she didn’t believe her.
“Yes.” Laura sighed. “I know it...probably felt like I didn’t to you because I told you to leave...but I did. And that’s why it hurt. And...I--me, Laura that is here, not the other Laura...well, she probably understood too after the whole...showdown underground, but...anyway. I get that I was being...unfair about your--about the Dean.”
Somehow, watching the footage in the dream, she’d caught more details than dream Laura had. Or maybe it was just that she had more time to think about it than dream Laura had had. “You looked...really uncomfortable while she was...possessing me. And that’s an understatement. And dream me didn’t take the time to notice that. And I’m sorry.”
Carmilla squeezed her eyes closed again. "You have no idea. I was... I was terrified. And to make it worse it wasn't you looking at me like that. It was her, using you, violating you. And I had no choice, I had to make a deal. I loved you too much to let her take you, even if it meant losing you."
Laura cupped a hand against Carmilla’s cheek. “I am so, so sorry…”
“What do you have to be sorry about?” Carmilla leaned in to kiss her again. “I’d kill anyone for you, I’d die for you. I don’t care.”
Laura chuckled softly. “I’m sorry I didn’t see how...scared you were of her, how scared you were for me. I love you, and that was...really shitty of dream me. Even if she was really preoccupied with trying to save everybody.”
“If she ever dreams here I might have to murder her,” Carmilla said, eyes darkening.
“...so she’s here, too?” Laura made a face.
“She’s that crazy aunt of mine. The one who kept using me in cons.” She hadn’t actually ever said any of that out loud. To anyone before. “The one I had to live with after I got kicked out.”
“Ohmygod.” Laura’s eyes were wide. “If she starts dreaming, I’m helping you hide her body.” Because hell no was she going to let that woman get to full dream-level power.
“Tempted to take you up on that offer anyway.” She didn’t like her aunt, either in this world or the other. And the chance that she might actually some day become that ancient unknowable evil? It sent chills down her spine. “She’s not a good person here either.”
Laura bit her lip, then hugged Carmilla tightly.
The touch made Carmilla’s smile grow more relaxed. She hugged Laura back. “What would you have done, if you’d had a chance to tell me?”
“I would have kissed you, for one thing,” Laura said. “And there might have been some yelling as well as a lot of apologizing, and maybe some crying. And told you I loved you, and that I shouldn’t have pushed you away...and that I should have told you earlier.”
“I’d do this,” Carmilla said, cupping both of Laura’s cheeks and kissing her like her life depended on it. In the process, she rolled onto her back, pulling Laura with her.
Laura returned the kiss, holding on to Carmilla as they rolled. She straddled the vampire and tangled her hands in Carmilla’s hair.
Carmilla groaned, her hips rocking underneath Laura as she realized she liked this. She broke the kiss, staring up at her with darkened eyes. “I love you.”
Laura smiled down at her. She brushed a lock of hair away from Carmilla’s face. “I love you, too.”
The vampire searched Laura’s eyes, then brushed her hair to one side to expose her neck. Her eyes darted from a spot there, and back to Laura’s eyes, then back again, then back to her eyes once more.
Laura bit her lip and flushed slightly, then nodded.
She just wanted another taste, and the intimacy that came from the voluntary act. There was also something wonderful about the warmth and the pulse and the feel of hands on her. "I only want a little," she assured Laura, voice rough. She pulled Laura's head down, kissing her on the neck, before biting down, quickly.
She shivered as she felt Carmilla’s fangs pierce her skin. This really was a lot nicer when she was expecting it. It was...kind of hot, really.
She couldn't help it. One hand slipped under Laura's night shirt, her eyes fluttering shut as a taste that was distinctly Laura assaulted her senses.
Laura moaned softly. Okay, it was really hot.
Forcing herself to slow down, Carm dragged her nails back down Laura's stomach, and into her pajama bottoms. She grinned against her neck, and held her close with her other arm. She hoped Laura had forgotten her dream - Carmilla was happy to forget it, too. Forever, if she could.
Laura was certainly well distracted from her dream right now. Especially with Carm’s hand straying in the direction it currently was. She propped herself up a little with one arm, just so Carmilla would have a little more room for...access.
She stopped suckling at Laura's neck so that she could focus on what her hand and fingers are doing without killing her girlfriend. "Laura..."
She latched her mouth back on the bite at the same time she brushed her middle finger across one of her favorite spots. That got another soft moan out of Laura. She clenched one hand in Carmilla’s hair and shifted her hips against Carmilla’s hand.
That was why it was her favorite spot on Laura's body, though one of many favorite spots. She shivered at the feel of Laura, then realized that they were actually about to make love, which was drastically different from having sex.
It was kind of a big deal. She tugged at Carmilla’s hair gently and murmured, “As much as I like what you’re doing to my neck...I really want to kiss you right now…”
“Yeah…” She wiped her mouth with the back of her free hand, then lifted her head and kissed Laura as deeply as she could, without letting up between her legs.
Laura slipped her hand to the back of Carm’s neck. She broke it just for a moment to murmur, “I love you” against Carmilla’s lips.
If Carmilla could look at Laura right now, her expression would be like she was looking at the stars and the moon and the sun all at once. But they were too close, and she had to suffice with telling Laura that through the way she kissed her and the way she held her.
