When: Late February
Where: Hospital
What: Check-up
Rating/Warnings: Low/none
Status: Complete
Nina was covering an emergency shift when she recognised the young blonde woman who had just walked in. She was covering the follow up appointments which only required a senior nurse to sign off and since she’d been the one to help treat this girl she remembered what had happened.
Calling her name she smiled as she led her to the treatment room, “Hi, Tink. How are you feeling?” she asked.
Tink was thankful to see Nina. She liked the nurse very much, and was glad that she’d found someone she could trust with everything. For the first time since arriving to the hospital, Tink released her wings from their captivity under her shirt (through the slots in the back) and gave a smile.
“So much better. It’s healed. I just… well, I thought you’d want to see.”
“Oh that’s wonderful” Nina said smiling brightly as she looked at the wings, “I felt awful when I couldn’t help more. Wings aren’t my specialty it seems” But she was so glad to see that Tink had managed to get them fixed, “How did they heal?”
“There’s only one cure for a broken wing in my Dream World,” Tink explained. She gave her wings a little flutter, and a few specks of sparkling, golden, pixie dust fell from them to flitter down to the floor. “If you press a wing and its sister together, they’ll heal each other.”
“Oh” Nina said with a smile in awe as the pixie dust fluttered from the wings, “So does that mean your sister dreamed of and got her wings?” she asked, remembering Tink mentioning her sister hadn’t when she’d been brought in.
“Yes.” Tink said, excitedly. She nodded. “It’s been really weird, because we just figured out that we’re actually biologically related, and now she’s got her wings, and I don’t know. The whole world is weird now.”
"Well at least you're in the right place for weird" Nina smiled, "This place is like weird central. But at times like this I'm very glad" she added kindly.
“Yeah, seriously.” Tink said, grinning and nodding. “It really is. This place is a magnet for weird. I’m thankful for it, though. If weird things are going to happen, then I’m glad that we’ve got people around who understand.”
"I think that's partly why most people stay , I mean there's no way people living in normal places would get half of this stuff" especially fairy wings and turning into a werewolf.
“It’s totally partly why I stay, too.” Tink said, softly. Her wings gave a little flutter, more pixie dust floated down off of them and landed on the floor. “I don’t think I could ever go back, even if I wanted to.”
"I'm the same. I was only supposed to stay a little while on my travels but then I reconnected with Audrey, got the job here, and now I don't think I could leave" she agreed before curiosity got the better of her. "Are your wings supposed to be dusty?" she asked with a grin.
“Audrey?” Tink asked, but then turned to look over her shoulder at her wings. “Oh. Right. It’s Pixie dust. I use it to fly.” Said completely nonchalantly, like it was no big deal.
“Oh my friend Audrey, we met in Europe a few years ago. She runs Baxter Bakery” she explained before Nina’s eyes widened, “Can anybody fly with it or do you need wings like yours?”
"I love that place. Baxter Bakery. I had no idea you know the woman who runs it." Tink beamed. Of course she loved it. Sparkling lattes? How could she not? Though, the baker at Peeta's bakery was a bit cuter. Just sayin'.
"Uh... no, anyone can fly." Tink added, grinning softly. She felt a little nervous talking about it. But she trusted Nina. "...you just need some pixie dust and happy thoughts."
“Oh yes, Audrey is actually the reason I stuck around here so long. I live in a little self contained annex next to her and her husband’s home now.” It worked really well for them all and Nina was very lucky to have such good friends. “Oh Tink that’s amazing” she said in awe, imagining being able to fly.
“You… want to try sometime?” Tink asked, cautiously. So far she’d brought two people flying with her. And they’d both been successes. It was the least she could do since Nina had been so helpful on the day she’d had her wing slashed.
“Really? You wouldn’t mind?” Nina asked, looking thrilled at the idea but trying not to get too excited. But it really would be amazing.
“Nah, not at all.” Tink said, smiling a little more genuinely now. “I mean, you have to be careful at first. We don’t want to … be seen by someone who shouldn’t see us, but… so long as we’re in a remote area, it shouldn’t be a big deal. Also, we can’t get wet. It washes the pixie dust off.”
Nina nodded, “Okay, there are a few fairly remote places around and hopefully we won’t have any rain” It was pretty rare here though not impossible. “This is very exciting, thank you so much Tink. It’s really very kind of you”
“Of course!” Tink was actually excited to take Nina up into the sky. “Just um… Wait. Here’s my card.” She pulled her business card out and held it up for the nurse. “Text me when you’ve got a day off work?”
“I will do” Nina said taking the card, “Thank you again and I’m really happy that your wing healed”
