Proteus had done a fantastic job of showing Victor around the area. Of course, Victor wasn't a complete stranger to Orange County, but it's been some time since he really put any thought into getting to know it. He'd thought he'd seen just about everything he could possibly care to know about when someone at work mentioned a local bookstore that, while selling some more popular and mainstream literature, catered a lot to the independent publishers and classic works. Naturally, Victor has to go have a look.
With his shift only being a half one in the morning, he decides that, since he's already out, he may as well go. Perhaps he can find some new treasure to take home. And it really is a quaint little place. Eventually he wanders over to his old standby, the Romantic movement, and he realizes his collection is severely lacking in some of the American works of the time.
