Since the trident had showed up, Finnick had more dreams, almost all of them worse than the ones that came before. Nothing could ever trump the fact that he had, in Panem, participated in the Hunger Games, had taken the lives of other kids, but what had been done to him after the Games? That was a close second. Finnick's sleep had just gotten worse and worse since the dreams started, but he tried not to act any differently, not wanting to have them affect his son too. With the end of the crime wave, the pair of them were happy to get out of their home and start to explore the city again. The snow had hampered their little adventures earlier, and the ever present threat of danger that had hung over Orange County for just about two months made Finnick reluctant to take Ezra anywhere that wasn't school. Today, Erza wanted to go to some bakery, not Peeta's, but someone else's. At school, he had learned that there were 'sparkling lattes' and his son's sense of magic and adventure meant they needed to find out what made them sparkle. The whole way there, Ezra was starting to make up a story, as if finding the lattes was the first part of an important quest. Like usual, Finnick wished he could see the world through his son's eyes, but he did his best to keep up, playing his part. Arriving at the shop, Finnick held his hand out and Ezra took it, a safety precaution that Finnick had started when the crime wave had started. Though it was always possible that they could get separated, if they were holding hands, it was harder for Ezra to get lost. Inside, Finnick was almost a little overwhelmed at the smell, but not in a bad way. The store wasn't big enough for Ezra to get lost in, so he let Ezra break away, watching him carefully as he ran up to one of the displays before looking pointedly at his dad, a look Finnick knew meant Can I have one? "What about our quest?" Finnick commented with a smile and Ezra nodded, looking around the store for someone who worked there. "We need the magic latte!" Ezra's voice was just a little bit too loud, but Finnick just laughed. If the place was busier, he would have said something though. |
