Michael hadn’t meant to tell Shane the news first but when they’d been texting the other night he’d thought there was something bothering his best friend and that he could use some cheering up. Things hadn’t been easy for any of them the last couple of months but maybe things were going to start looking up. He was sitting at the piano downstairs, messing around with a new melody when he heard the door open and he stopped to turn around and see which of his roommates had come home. “Hey sweetheart,” he said grinning when he saw Gwen coming in. *** Gwen was home from work. Finally. She gave him a smile, pulling off her hat and scarf. “Hey.” She spoke gently. It’d been a madhouse out there. Knowing that her boss was using the suit from his dreams, making the world a bit safer, that was all well and good. But she could see every day how dangerous the streets were becoming because of this wave of crime. There were broken and boarded up windows, graffiti, cars on fire… it was awful. She moved over toward the piano to greet Michael with a quick kiss. “Working on something?” *** Michael kissed her back, wrapping an arm around her waist as he did so. “Trying to at least. Figured something happy right now might not be a bad idea,” he told her. “At the very least it’ll keep my mind off the insanity that’s going on out there some right?” He didn’t think he had to tell her how much the crime wave was weighing on his mind. “I’ve got good news though from the record label.” *** “Probably.” Gwen had been a grump the day that Baxter Bakery was closed. She’d needed that sparkling latte. Some bastard with a rock thought he could break into her favorite cafe? Ugh. “Ooh, what news?” She asked, moving to sit next to him on the piano bench. She dropped her purse, scarf and hat on the ground so she could focus on Michael. *** “They’re talking about release dates for a single. Small scale but it’s something. Progress.” Michael told her with a smile as she sat down beside him. “They’re talking about end of this month maybe. Early March.” One of his hands was running over the piano keys lightly, not playing anything - just touching them. *** “That’s fantastic!” Gwen said, beaming brightly. “Oh, Michael, I’m so proud!” She said, and wrapped her arms around him, resting her head on his shoulder. “We should celebrate. Does this mean they’re going to start playing it on the radio?? I can’t wait to hear my boyfriend on the radio.” She chuckled softly, trailing her hand up and down his back. “...you know I’m going to be ridiculous. I’m going to tell everyone I know that that’s my boyfriend on the radio.” *** Michael loved these moments where he could just be with Gwen like they were now. “We should. And no I don’t want to use this as a reason to get one of those inflatable pubs for a party. That we should save for an album release. Or someone’s birthday,” he said turning his head slightly to place a soft kiss on the top of hers. “A song hasn’t been decided on yet but - it’s going to be released to some of the stations around here so you should get the opportunity to tell people that I’m on the radio.” *** “Yay!” Gwen said, grinning brightly. She clapped her hands together once. “Perfect. I’m going to irritate everyone at Stark Tower by playing it nonstop, you know.” She added, then re-wrapped her arm around his middle and cuddled in close. “Maybe we should go out to dinner, or something, to celebrate. You think? Or should we save that for Valentine’s Day?” *** Michael laughed at her comment about irritating everyone with it. “I wish I could complain about that but - exposure,” he said wrapping an arm around as she cuddled in close. The song could wait - he’d really just been playing around with it for something to do to keep himself busy. He thought about her suggestion for a minute before answering her. “Why does it have to be one or the other?” *** “I suppose it doesn’t.” Gwen conceded. She leaned in and tapped a kiss against his neck, then his jaw, then caught his lips with her own. It was a friendly kiss. A ‘welcome home’ kind of kiss. An ‘I’m proud of you’ kiss. Then she pulled back. “Should I go change out of my work clothes while you mull it over?” *** Michael kissed her back, smiling at her when she pulled back and toying with the idea of pulling her back in for another kiss until he heard what she was saying. “That’s probably a good idea. And think about where you want to go to dinner. To celebrate.” He leaned in to give her another kiss before taking his arm from around her middle. *** Gwen could have sat there all day on that piano bench and kissed her boyfriend. It wouldn’t have been hard, actually, it probably would have been a really wonderful way to spend an afternoon. But she wanted to go out and celebrate, too, and have some drinks, do some dancing, or something. So she finally, reluctantly pulled away and stood up. “I’ll go put on something cute. Maybe Chinese? Hmm.” She turned to collect her things, then headed to their bedroom to dig around in the closet. *** Michael gave her a grin as she pulled away. “Pick that up after dinner?” He asked as he turned to watch her go upstairs. “Chinese and you know I think you always look good sweetheart,” he called after her. “I’ll be up in a couple minutes to change shirts. I need to clean this up.” He never left his sheet music out when he was writing. Not because he didn’t trust his roommates but because he didn’t want people to see his work until it was done. It didn’t take him long to get his stuff cleaned up and head upstairs to change his shirt. He was excited about the fact they were going out for dinner - partly because time with his girlfriend and partly because it had just been a while since they’d done this. Time together they got but nights out? Not so much lately. *** Gwen pulled a dress out of the closet--one she hadn’t worn in a while--and started dressing while Michael was downstairs cleaning up. She was nearly there when he came in to change his shirt. She glanced at him over her shoulder, earrings on, hair twisted up, shoes on, but her dress needed a zip. “Give me a hand, would you?” She asked, smiling warmly. Playfully. Flirtatiously. *** Michael gave a low whistle when he saw the dress Gwen had put on, crossing the room and leaning in to place a soft kiss on the side of her neck as he started to zip it for her. “You look gorgeous,” he told her, his lips brushing against her neck as he spoke. They needed this he thought - a night out just them. He stood up straight to finish zipping her up and then stepped back so that he could get into the closet himself to find a button-up shirt. He turned towards her as he pulled off his t-shirt. “So after dinner - before we come home do you want to go dancing or something?” *** “I’d love to.” Gwen said, putting the finishing touches on the cuteness for the evening. Hair pin. Earrings. Necklace. Bracelet. She had her shoes on (the fuck-me-heels that killed her feet but looked gorgeous) and her clutch at her side. She was checking her messages on her phone when he asked. “Whatever you want to do. I’m all yours.” Big grin. *** Michael was tempted to just cancel the whole night and take her to bed as he finally got a look at the whole outfit while buttoning up his shirt. “Be careful telling me that sweetheart. Looking at you - I’m tempted to just take you to bed right now. Do the actual celebrating outside the house tomorrow,” he was teasing her. A little bit. *** Gwen laughed softly, turning around so she could look at him again. “If that’s really what you want to do…” She teased back. Honestly, she could take a night in with her boyfriend. It felt like they hadn’t really connected in a long time. Sure, they kissed as they passed, like ships in the night, but it’d been a long time since they’d cuddled, talked, and shagged all night long, just the two of them. *** Michael grinned at her response, stopping midway through buttoning up his shirt as he thought about it. Or pretended to. As much as he wanted to take her out for a night on the town there was a bigger part of him that wanted to just take her to bed and make love to her all night. Tomorrow was Saturday so he didn’t have to go to work and he didn’t think Gwen did either or if she did it might not be until late. He started unbuttoning his shirt again, giving her a teasing look as he did so. “If you’re sure you don’t mind...sounds a lot more interesting to me than dinner does right now.” He’d make it up to her tomorrow with dinner and dancing and whatever else she wanted to do. *** Gwen kicked off her heels and moved to the bed. “I don’t mind.” She said, softly. Her hands came up to help him unbutton his shirt. “We can go out anytime. Besides, those shoes were already starting to hurt.” It would be a night to remember. Mostly because Gwen was desperate for him. It’d been a while. Surely they were desperate for each other. *** Michael pulled her close to him as she started unbuttoning his shirt so that he could give her another kiss. There was nothing friendly about this one. This kiss was full of how much he wanted her. It had been too long since they’d gotten a night like this. Way way too long. He reached for the zipper on her dress, pulling it down so that he could get her out of it. “Much more interesting than dinner,” he whispered as he let go of her so that he could start to undress. *** Gwen was almost literally swept away by the kiss. It was hungry and passionate and the sense of desperation that she had in herself was mirrored in the way he touched her. She released him so she could strip off her dress, then sat down on the bed to pull off the pantyhose. Fucking things. Totally not sexy. But then she was on her feet again, arms wrapped around him, kissing him with fervor. *** Michael wasn’t thinking about whether or not the pantyhose she was wearing were sexy or not - he was more concerned with the fact that his zipper seemed to have picked right now to get stuck. He finally got it to release just before Gwen was back in his arms and they were kissing again. He reached up to pull her hair loose, loving the way it looked when it was down and pushing her back down onto the bed. Following her onto it as he stripped off his pants. *** This was definitely not how Gwen expected to spend her afternoon. Not that she was complaining. She paused for a split second to wonder if they’d locked the door, but then gave up on that idea and threw herself full force into the kissing. Hands wandering, pulling the last dregs of clothes off so they could press against one another skin on skin. She pulled him above her, loving the feel of his body’s weight on top of hers. *** Michael wasn’t sure if they’d locked the door but he also knew chances of either of their roommates coming up the stairs to their room was slim. A benefit of the master bedroom being at the top of the house and the other bedrooms on the floor below. Or at least the occupied bedrooms were on the floor below. He placed one hand on either side of her, supporting his weight on one arm as he reached into the nightstand to grab a condom. He loved her but he wasn’t taking any chances of having kids yet. *** No. No chances. Gwen was on board with that, too. She was taking a daily pill on top of the protection that he used. They weren’t in any position to get accidentally pregnant. Her father would kill him, for starters. She planted kisses up and down his neck, hands trailing over his form before moving up her body to tangle in his hair, pulling his face down to capture his mouth with her own once more. She let him fiddle with the condom, only slightly impatiently waiting while he did so. *** Michael couldn’t help but laugh when he saw that impatience on her face and he thought about teasing her and drawing this out longer but that would be mean to him, too and he definitely didn’t want to do that. He shifted so that he was over her more evenly and leaned in to steal a kiss as he slid into her, looking down into her eyes as he broke the kiss and murmured. “I love you.” *** Gwen returned the kiss, brow furrowing with pleasure. Her eyes opened to lock with his. “I love you, too.” (Fade to black. Tons of sex was had.) |
