Garrus shaved today. It was an important day, you see. Important because he had been saving a fuckton of ammo and a fuckton of reserved infuriation for a fuckton of just fucking things up. And he was good at keeping that impulsive controlled, that finger on the trigger steady. Attached to his ear and over his eye was the Turian modified visor that could detect too many things to list, and it was appropriate - this almost felt like Omega, in a sense, and the visor carried the name of his dead team in the inside, carved. Only one was scratched out. “Keep the accidental burning things down to a minimum Wisdom.” One side he had Pete, the other he had Rogue. All they needed a small, quiet team to go in while the rest did what they did best - yell and scream until someone paid attention to them - and amidst the commotion, they’d slip in. Which was working. Except everyone was on high alert, and Garrus made sure everyone’s gun was equipped with a silencer. Didn’t need to give away their location, after all. “Ha,” Pete laughed dryly, ever the smart-looking and dapper motherfucker in his suit, black and perfectly laundered because he wasn’t going to show up to a rescue mission looking anything less than GQ-worthy. “I’ve got more control over them, thank you,” he insisted and it was...sort of true. Embarrassing to have to not have it fully yet, considering in his dreams he’d led the X-Factor team for so long and trained them. Taught them how to use their abilities in new ways. And now here he was, a flopping fish on the boat as he struggled to not set the world on fire. Today it was different - he’d do this and do it right. Get it done. He was focused and determined, and ready to bring the whole operation to its knees so they all could get some damn relief. His hot knives were tucked away, nothing visible - he just had one hand on his sidearm pistol, ready to aim and fire. “I’ve got it, mate, don’t worry. I’ll only bring them out when appropriate.” They were handy at slicing through, well, anything. Rogue hated guns,so she'd acquired a set of rather sharp knives tucked away for use later.for now, though she had gloves off, her method of dropping people was utterly silent. They didn't get time to scream when she laid her hands on them. A little smirk. She was in a black skin tight uniform, modeled after her favorite green one, her hair braided back and twirled into a bun at the base of her neck. She didn't wear gloves. Anyone she touched would not be spared.tonight. She wasn't in the mood. "Quiet and fast, that I can manage." She said quietly before wiggling her fingers. She was ready for the migraine. It was worth it. This was one of her very few close bff type friends. She would move the earth of it was necessary. Get in, take the fuckers down quickly and efficiently, get Cindy, get out. That was the plan anyway, but Garrus had been in situations similar well enough to know that nothing ever went as planned, and to expect those hefty bumps in the road that would throw them off the main course some. He couldn’t afford to be careless. People were risking their own lives and well-being to help him with this, to get her back and put a final end to it. He’d seen Shepard lead teams in the dreams. Make the tough calls that, in his mind, were right to make, but it still killed someone close. It killed someone dear. He thought of Wrex. Thought about Kaiden. His entire team on Omega. “Let’s move,” he instructed after taking a deep breath to calm his nerves and settle into that military mindset. Calm, collected, efficient. Move. So they did, through corridors that felt like a maze. They’d come across crates and other strange packages sitting in the corners, things that could be used for cover in case bullets flew. He pressed his back against the wall, peering very briefly through an open door and that glance was all he needed for his visor to register the numbers they were facing. “Six,” he determined. Two for each. “Remember: quiet.” Pete nodded and with a glance at Rogue, steely eyes shifting toward Garrus; it was time to go for it. Stealth. Espionage. Those were his specialties - he’d taken out a whole base of terrorists in Thailand, he’d killed many others all in the name of doing his job for Black Air, so he could handle this too. For the sake of friends - he didn’t have many, but the ones he did, he kept them close. Lina was outside and he worried, a near-silent simmer in the back of his mind before attention snapped back and he focused fully. Removing himself from the dark shadows of the corridor, emerging from behind the nearest crate, he was in the room. The pistol had a silencer but his hot knives were just as effective - and with the gun still in its holster for now he had two hands free. Five knives on each, they shot off like deadly projectiles hot enough to kill on contact - right through their backs, in near the spinal cord and out their chests. Smoking holes, sizzling flesh. Then they dropped. Rogue had learned silent moves from her time on the streets.Didn't pay to be loud. Didn't pay to be loud sneaking on the farm either. She'd honed it over the years and.Now she was pretty good at it. She moved as silent as she could muster. She didn't worry about what Lina was up to out there, or her own safety, because they were distractions to her. She'd need all her focus soon enough. Because she laid her fingers around the face of target one, long fingers covering his mouth, turning him so she could grab target two in the same fashion. She held skin contact until they dropped unconscious, then she knelt, drew the knives and made sure they'd not get back up again. She'd already made her moral compass hush up, these people deserved this. Logan's meditation ideas helped too, she'd spent much of hours before meditating. She whipped the blood from the knives and tucked them away, leaving her hands free again. Garrus’ two were plucked off in a matter of seconds - the visor helped hone in on the perfect spot and it was only when they’re body stopped and jerked, could someone tell they’d been shot right between the eyes. Smoke sizzled from the bullet wound, lodged deeply in their skulls. Clean sweep. Just like he liked it. “You two are my new best friends,” Garrus smirked, eyes glancing over their work in admiration. That quickly ceased when the ground trembled only briefly - one explosion, then a second one right after it. Close enough that the walls rattled, but it was something from the outside. Eyebrows flared up in concern, but there wasn’t much they could do at the moment - no distractions, keep focus on the mission, and just hope that whatever those two ka-booms were from, they were coming from their people. He sucked in a deep breath of air. “Move,” he said again, stepping over the corpses and going up a set of staircases. It was incredibly hot and musty, and down the opposite way came another wave of gunmen, guns readied. Garrus loaded and shot, but bullets flew and ricocheted with a ding against metal stair railing that one bounced and went right through his arm. Shit. Bullets pinging off hard surfaces meant for severe annoyances, but similar to the goings-on outside (what the hell was that? Oh wait, it was Team NealandLina, of course it'd be worthy of explosion gifs), Pete couldn't get tripped up by it. "Rude," he huffed, and sent another blast of knives from each fingertip toward the one who had shot at Garrus. The interior of the stairwell lit up, temperature rising fast - a sizzle and pop, then it flickered back out. "You alright?" he asked, just wanting to be sure. "We've got you covered." They'd pave their way to what lay at the end of these stairs come hell or high water; it was a battle that had his ears ringing from the firearms, then when one man got too close Pete grabbed him. His choked sound was more like a gurgle as he was stabbed in the stomach by claws that were as scorching as the sun's surface. More gunshots, and Pete used the man he had just killed as a buffer. Yes, riddle this dead body full of bullets, that was perfectly acceptable. Meanwhile rogue used the boys' distractions to slip around to help eliminate some of the shooters. She moved lightly on her feet, trying to avoid getting shot. It would be an inconvenience. She hated that. It wasn't that she expected to get through this.without injury. She'd just rather it not be this early in the night. Spoil a girl's fun. She dropped another pair much like the first, bare fingers delivering unconsciousness then death..She.avoided killing with her touch. She didn't want that to be a problem here. She looked up at her pair, head tilted, waiting for the move orders. Even as she reached out to trip another gunman up and silence him in turn. She was quickly shoving echos into boxes in her head. There would be more to come. She'd deal later. Garrus wouldn’t pretend like getting shot didn’t hurt, but he’d been met with them several times before - even gleaned his fair share of scars from the career that had gotten him to this point. And lucky him there was an exit wound, meaning they didn’t have to worry about it being stuck there, except the hole bled like a bitch. Worry about that later, get through this first. There was plenty more coming down the stairs like train and all they had to do was pummel and pummel through in the tight space they had. He’d let Rogue and Pete get close, and Garrus began picking the ones off farther in the distance - killing them before they even reached them. Thank fuck he brought a lot of ammo with him. “Pete!” He growled out, urgent. “One of those mass ‘setting everything on fire’ moves would be really appreciated now!” Oh, right, one of those moves. “Can do,” he called helpfully, and fuck, where were all these people coming from? It was like there was a space up ahead just vomiting out goons who had a death wish. Well, good for them. Now they’d go out in a blaze of glory. Literally. Checking to make sure he wouldn’t accidentally set Rogue on fire, he warned her with a, “heads up, love,” before grabbing the nearest body after a move to disarm. His fingertips glowed volcanic red, the knives shot out and sliced through flesh. Like claws tearing up gossamer, a warm knife through butter. But then he upped the temperature (he was getting better at regulating it, who would have thought?) and everything just caught fire. The clothes, the corpse, gone up in flames - he tossed it down, so it’d be used as a bowling ball to knock out others. Was that sufficient? Rogue rolled under one those she'd so happily slit their throats, to you know not get turned into a briquette. It wasn't that she didn't trust him (she did) but she didn't trust anyone on fire to collapse after running around flailing. Once she decided it was safe she lobbed the corpse off to the side, and went about taking out any who hadn't been turned into flaming bowling pins. You know, this was probably the most fun she'd had in awhile. She'd be grinning if it weren't for the reason. "I so need to steal that one!" She said after a moment. Finally, some relief. Even if Pete’s skills had significantly heated the already stuffy and confined area, and Garrus had been layered with a (manly) sheet of sweat from it all. Hype of combat now somewhat eased, he could feel the stinging ache of the gunshot wound on his arm and his hand went over to add pressure. Nothing entirely dangerous, just annoying. “Watch it,” he smirked. “She’s out for your hell fingers.” But now they could hear the stomping echo of footprints going up the opposite direction of the stairs - they were retreating. To what? That alone made his feet begin to move, up and up those tedious flights. Because if they were turning back, it meant they were getting closer. And those fuckers could potentially prolong this if they went back, grabbed Cindy, and moved to a different location, but with the amount of people Garrus had working inside and outside of this thing-- That was very fucking unlikely. “This will take us to the top,” he called to them, recalling the design of this place from the schematics Leliana had managed to retrieved for them. Didn’t know how she got them, didn’t ask, but so far the blueprints had been accurate and he’d been able to memorize as much as he could. The final floor of the incredibly high building (an old bankrupt medical establishment with a lot of floors and a lot of rooms), where twin doors were shut and locked after the retreating men had gone through it. A desperate effort. Not like the locks mattered, because Garrus easily shot through them and kicked through the door. That was when they found Cindy. And the few brave souls who decided that they had a death wish, or were set to stick around and try to clobber the opposition. She was bound and gagged, bloodied and bruised, not to mention in need of a hot meal and a shower - but the hatred in her eyes burned like flaming blue stars. It shifted into a look of relief when she saw who had come for her, for just a moment, and she struggled - obviously she couldn’t get free, not until the rope and wires were removed, the marks on her wrists dug in deep because of any previous struggling. “Hey mates,” Pete greeted the brave souls cheerfully and before they could blink he’d shot more hot knives into one, the smell of fried internal organs now permeating the room. Another received a slit throat with a slash of his burning red-hot fingers, and there were still others trying to prevent them from reaching Cindy. He managed to get close enough to slice through her bonds though, as wire and rope didn’t hold up against what he was using. Then she was free, muscles underused and underworked, but still strong enough to let the adrenaline fuel her. It was like they’d unleashed the Hulk, and she didn’t have any weapons on her - but that didn’t matter. She was an unstoppable force, ready to join the fray. Rogue stayed well out of Pete's way, and went so far as to give Cindy a hearty wave as she launched herself at a poor sap who thought staying behind was a good idea. She made sure to leave some for Cindy, of course, but worked her way through any who got in the way. She wanted to make sure no one got out this one if they weren't necessary. She knocked one to the ground, sitting on his chest as he struggled under her hand. She was planning the hot meal menus for Cindy in her head. "man, shut up, y'all are getting on my nerves, y'all thinking the same shit." She sighed at the man she was sitting on and was a little less clean about shutting this one up. "Good to see you, dear! I promise a good meal when we're done!" Relentless in her cheer. She was enjoying getting her hands dirty, she'd forgotten what the adrenaline felt like. Oops? One look at Cindy bound in the chair was all he needed. Pete was quick, getting to her - good - because Garrus had a fuckton of bullets reserved for the fuckers in charge. Rifle cocked, aimed, and a press against the trigger - he’d loaded his rifle with an incendiary bullet that burned through the first victim seamlessly, the force so severe that it also penetrated the shithead behind him. Two victims, one bullet. Now if he could up that number to three, he’d feel utterly in sync with his Turian dream-half. A pause in the entire mess gave him the chance to get into the room more - right up against his kidnapped lady and he swore, it felt like for fucking ever. All he wanted to do was scoop her up into his arms and squeeze tight and get her the fuck out of here, but he knew the look on her face - and he came prepared, for his fairytale princess. “Holster. Pistol. Loaded. Take it.” And he’d stick close, because there was no way in any circle of hell he was about to lose her a second time. Cindy didn’t have to be told twice. She swiftly took the pistol from the holster, securing it in her greedy little hands. Eager to shoot to kill. “Love you,” she told Garrus quietly, quickly, before she fired her first shot - the first in a long while, and it felt good. Dead-on, right between the eyes. Brain matter splattered on the wall behind where she’d been bound and gagged in that chair, and the body staggered, falling to the floor. Aw, Rogue really was the best friend ever. She’d come to rescue the damsel. “I’m holding you to that good meal, peach, I could eat a whole horse right now,” the molasses coated her words, but her movements were quick. They all needed to clean this place up and then get the fuck out. Another sizzle and pop, the sound of bones being sliced into - hot knives cutting through flesh, muscle tissue, and everything in between. Pete glanced at Garrus, beginning to feel a bit of the heat himself. “Exit strategy?” he asked. The top floor presented some problems but if Garrus wanted, despite the desire to stay close, Pete could always take Cindy and jump - he was certain he could do the thermal updrafts with his powers, enough to slow the descent and let them hit the ground safely. Or they could all go together, it was up to him - this was his show. Rogue grinned. "Well of course" said as she helped mop up. She figured those who stayed were wishing they'd left. It was bullets, hot knife or bare skin, take your pick bad guys. None were nice endings. She looked over at Garrus, she was all about getting out before it got any hairier in here. She loved busting heads and all but she was getting tired and sorting out the voices in head was going to wear her out. She'd like make them dinner before she crashed. "point me in the right direction to excuse ourselves and I'll make sure a path is clear." You know, if Pete was to take Cindy, and all. She didn't mind heights and was more than happy to scramble down buildings like a spider monkey of it helped. God, having her back made him feel monumentally better about everything. It gave him a new rush of adrenaline to get this over and done with, leave not a single person who played apart in this entire thing living and breathing. “Love you too,” he whispered and nailed someone square in the face when they ran out of ammo and came straight at him. One harsh blow, and he was down to the ground, the fucker. Pete’s voice woke him up some, enough to survey and assess. Some were making an escape. “Go. The three of you.” A nod to his Englishman of a friend, as he’d let him take the reigns of getting Cindy and Rogue. “I’ve got this. And I’ll get the rest, to make sure everyone’s out. Move!” He could handle the stragglers - there was still an unrelenting amount of rage that needed to be taken care of. A hand went to cradle the back of Cindy’s head and he brought her into a fierce kiss, only to cut it short due to the rather pressing situation they’d been in. “I’ll meet you on the outside. Missed you, beautiful.” They might have had an audience in regards to the brief ‘snogging’ as Pete would so put it, but fuck it, they’d understand. “I missed you too,” Cindy managed to get in, while Pete snickered, but the proper reunion with Garrus would have to come later. For now, she stuck with gripping his collar and planting another smack of a kiss on him before letting go, with visions of getting her life back acting as fuel for her to put one foot in front of the other. For the exit, then. “Might want to borrow the updrafts, love,” Pete told Rogue, and he briefly touched her hand - just to hopefully give her the power, and not much of his psyche though his was probably tame compared to what she had been receiving from the scum of the earth. A beat later, he shot out the window and then jumped - with Cindy scooped up in his arms, bridal style. The current of rising air shot up in a supporting column around them both, as they slowly settled toward the ground. Rogue took. She didn't get pick what she got but she was happy to grab the right one. She'd get his surface thoughts but they weren't anything she focused on. She stood on edge for a moment, trying to get a feel for it. Leap of faith time. She jumped. Her control was no where near his. They settled nicely. Rogue was a touch too fast and not nearly as graceful as she sort of crash landed. She rolled with it though, making it look cool. Her shoulder reminded her crash landing was a shitty past time but she'd made it. It was a good day. "That...is so cool." She said grinning. It was a little hard, letting them go, letting her go for the time being - but she needed to be somewhere less violent. Less dangerous. Because she’d been in the situation enough, and it was time to bring her back home. Wherever ‘home’ was at this point, the location didn’t matter as long as it had her. So Garrus readied his rifle again, stuffing it with another round of incendiary ammo. The wound was a distant echo of pain in his arm thank fuck, but he made sure their landing was safe before he went at it again. Another sound of bullets, another round of bodies hitting the ground with a violent thud. Now to get everyone out, and go back home. |
