For a couple nights now, Peter had dreams of the old Hale House fire again, but more than that, there were flashes of that burning warehouse and images of Cora trapped in fire, though he hadn't seen the bookstore when it had gone up in flames. Peter would never admit to anyone that one thing scared him to his core and while it was no secret that it was a natural fear to have, Peter's fear of fire extended past fear for his own life. The heat and the smoke and the pain pulled from him that horrible feeling of emptiness and loss, the memories of his family and how they were all taken by a crazed hunter.
Since the warehouse, the scars on Peter's neck felt like they were fresh wounds again, even though he was slowly beginning to heal. A few weeks ago, Peter had cut himself on a knife in the kitchen, only to see the wound heal impossibly fast. The laptop confirmed his suspicion that werewolves had some adaptive healing ability, but his was still weak, and even at its normal strength, Peter was aware based on personal experience that the burn injuries he had suffered from the Hale House fire took over six years to completely heal, the reason he had been trapped in a coma all those years.
When Peter had gotten a call from Helena, he had been somewhat surprised that she had taken him up on his offer, but he had no intention of not following through with that promise. He wouldn't own to the fact that he wanted company other than his own terrorising thoughts, but that being a partial reason wasn't completely untrue. Peter didn't feel a lick of real remorse for the men he had killed in that warehouse, and that bothered him only because there should have been something, even just the smallest shred of guilt, but there was nothing.
It didn't take him long to arrive, and when he was close to the house, he could only hear one heartbeat inside, meaning that Helena's daughter was likely somewhere else. That was probably for the best. Knocking on the door, Peter didn't think he could just invite himself in despite being asked over and waited for Helena.
