Who: Kitty and Rahne What: Lunching, meeting, talking, comparing When: A couple of days ago! Where: Cafe Status: Complete Rating: Probably just PG, maybe a bit PG-13ish
Kitty had contacted Rahne out of the blue, after Jubilee had prompted her to do so. They'd never gotten around to their lunch together, so Kitty arranged for one, just the two of them. She wondered how much the other woman remembered about her.
Rahne wasn't sure what to expect from the meeting. She didn't really remember much about Kitty yet. She hoped that wouldn't be too much of a problem.
Kitty had picked a little cafe, and rolled up on her motorcycle. Parking wasn't too bad, and she pulled off her helmet and looked around for any redheads. Jubilee has said she had short hair.
Rahne perked up as she spotted the motorcycle. That was a nice bike. They'd at least have that in common, if the woman with the bike was, indeed, the one she was supposed to be meeting. "Kitty Pryde?" she asked.
"Hey! Yeah. You must be Rahne!" She swung off the bike and held out her hand. Clearly they were closer in age here than they were in the dream world, which was okay by Kitty.
"Aye, I am." Rahne shook her hand and smiled. "Lovely machine you've got there. I've got a yellow Kawasaki Ninja, myself."
"Nice. I considered a Ninja, but I fell in love with this baby." Kitty nodded her head towards the cafe, "Lets head on in."
Rahne grinned and headed into the cafe after Kitty. It looked like a nice place to eat and chat. Smelled nice, too.
Kitty realized she was ravenous. She found them a table and took a seat, "Jubilee says you're an EMT?"
Rahne sat down and nodded. "Aye, I am. I've got the day off today, though."
"Nice." She looked through the menu, wondering how to broach the dream subject or even if she should, "I hear you helped Jubilee out a lot at first."
"I did. Helped her train safer and healthier, as far as keeping fit and such went. And how to treat sore muscles." Rahne smiled. "I'm really exicted about the games."
"Me too, I can't wait! I haven't been back to London in years! Have you ever been?" Just because she was Scottish didn't mean she'd ever been south, Kitty reasoned.
"Briefly," Rahne replied. "Didn't really have time to see anything of interest, though."
Kitty nodded her head, "I saw plenty. Would like a tour with someone who didn't drive like a maniac this time though."
Rahne chuckled. "Aye, everything is better--as far travel goes--when ye've got a decent driver."
Smirking, Kitty ordered some water and a cheeseburger. Screw kosher right now, "So uhm. I'm just going to come right out and say it. Dreams?"
Rahne took a deep breath. "Aye, dreams. Haven't really had any that involve you, yet. Doug, and Dani, and some others."
Kitty nodded her head, "Doug yeah. I remember the conversation online now." Hearing his name hurt a little, "I remember you and your mum."
"Moira?" Rahne chuckled. "Ever dream about her coffee?" It would be memorable, certainly, if she had ever tried or heard about it.
Kitty's grimace was several levels of epic, "You mean that solid block of sludge?"
That got another chuckle out of Rahne. "Aye, that's it."
"Some things never changed. I saw her coffee when I visited the other day!"
Rahne nodded. "Aye, some thing stay the same."
Kitty looked around, to make sure they weren't being watched, "Do you have...Well..any powers?"
Rahne tilted her head. "In the dreams, yes, I have powers. I can change into a wolf, and into something more like a werewolf."
"You liked to be in that transitional state a lot," Kitty replied. "Spent the whole night in the pub like that." It was a happy memory for her. One of the better ones she liked to go back to when the darker ones were prevalant.
"Moira had a dream about a pub night, too," Rahne said. "Seemed like it was a lot of fun." She sighed. "I could use some more happy dreams."
"Some really crap sack memories?" Kitty smiled grimly, "It's like we don't get much of a break over there."
"Some, aye." Mostly the Doug ones. And being captured and drugged. Those...weren't fun.
"I'm sorry.."
"It's okay. It's not yuir fault." Rahne shrugged. "Do you have a power, in your dreams?"
Kitty nodded her head, looked around again and then stuck her hand through the table.
Rahne jumped slightly. "Och! That's...did ye just...?"
"Yep!" She pulled her hand back out which sounds so dirty, "I can't do it for as long as I can in the dreams though."
"Still..." Rahne ran a hand through her hair. "Real life super power. That's...impressive."
"Do you want yours?" Kitty had to ask. So far it seemed to be back and forth depending on the person. She was pretty sure Scott didn't want his.
"...I don't know," she said. "I hadn't thought it was even a possibility, really. It...might be nice, though." Especially if Dani got those talking-to-animals powers back.
Kitty grinned, "I'll bet it would. Be like finding a part of yourself you didn't even realize was missing. That's how it was for me."
"Mmm. Ye might be right," Rahne said wistfully.
Leaning forward and resting her chin on her hand and studying Rahne, Kitty said, "I think you really do hope you get it."
Rahne ducked her head, grinning just a little. "Ye might be right about that."
"I hope you do too. And don't get stuck in it." Kitty grinned wickedly, "That would be hard to explain to most people." She found she really liked the other woman.
"...och, that would be a bit troubling. Even around Halloween..." Rahne frowned. That would be...bad in the summer, being covered in fur.
"Not so much around halloween, but it would do a number on your dating life."
Rahne snorted. "I don't have one of those anyway. So it wouldn't really be an issue."
"I suppose with your hours. Which is a shame." She winked.
"My mum thinks it's a shame, too," Rahne said. "I tell her there's plenty of time still."
"Well she's a mum. Mine keeps texting me out of the blue asking about grandkids." Kitty made a face, "I haven't even told her the person I'm with isn't a guy yet."
"Aye, grandbabies. My mum wants those. And I don't think dating a woman would stop her line of thinking, either," Rahne said. "But...good luck on telling your parents, if and when that happens."
"If your mum is still who I think it is," Kitty replied, her grin returning. "I can definitely see how that wouldn't stop her line of thinking." And maybe someday...But that was getting ahead of herself, "Thank you. I'm probably going to need that luck, at least with mom. Dad's a bit more laid back."
"To Moira MacTaggert, me dating women would mean she gets to look into genetics more, yes." Rahne patted Kitty's hand.
"That would probably earn her a nobel prize, the adoration of lesbians everywhere, and strike fear in the hearts of misogynists everywhere."
Rahne grinned. "Aye, she'd be quite pleased with that."
Kitty grinned back, "She may or may not have some willing guinea pigs, eventually. Helping out with two ten year olds is enough of an experience right now as it is."
"Och! I can imagine." Rahne smiled. "So your girlfriend comes with added bairns?"
Kitty smiled at the thought of 'her' kids, "Yeah, her brother and sister, twins. She's been caring for them on her own for a long time now."
"Aww. That's wonderful of her," Rahne said. "And not easy, either."
"So I'm learning." Kitty pulled out her phone, because naturally this called for showing off pictures. There was even one of Illyana, "She's an old friend, staying with us for a bit." Kitty kept one eye on Rahne's face for any sign of recognition of either Illyana or Xi'an.
Rahne blinked. "...she was in the dream where Doug died...only she was younger and her hair was longer...och."
Okay the och was adorable... "In the dreams she's been both young and old. She fell into a place called Limbo and came out my age, and then she became a child again later on."
"Strange..." But then, the dreams were strange in general. "And the kids are adorable."
"I assure you they're utter hellions. But adorable hellions." There was enough death with Douglas hanging in the air, Kitty didn't want to think about viruses.
Rahne smiled. "I'm glad they've got their sister and you." Kids needed people who loved them, who cared about them.
"Me too. They came around at a good time for me, and for them. And if I was going to fall for Xi'an I had to pass their tests."
"That's too cute! And very smart of them, making sure they like you, too." Rahne couldn't help but grin.
"Xi'an was really lonely, I think..." Kitty looked down at her cheeseburger, which had arrived without her even noticing it, "A job, two kids..." And recovering from a crippling injury on top of that, "I was attracted the first time I saw her. In denial, but attracted." She smirked, "At least even if things go tits up between us I'll know, next time. I won't be denying it."
She trailed off, thinking, "There was something I thought about, in a dream. I keep thinking about it. About how fragile things are and how you need to just grab for the happy when you can. The things we go through there, with no real coping mechanisms. They're not fair, really..."
Rahne looked at her thoughtfully. While most of her dreams, except the ones about Doug, didn't seem all that close together, she did have a sense of what Kitty was talking about. As if so many things happened in that place without enough time to work through them before the next large or small crisis popped up.
"I ended up in therapy at some point. All this bottled up anger, at myself and everything else." Kitty continued. She rubbed at her face, "Sorry."
"Hey, it's okay. Talking about it helps." Rahne gave her a faint smile. "I don't know if I ever had any therapy in the dream world, but I've had it here."
Kitty raised an eyebrow at that, but said nothing. Hey, she couldn't judge and there were plenty of reasons to have therapy, these days, "I just don't want to dump all this on you, even if you probably understand a little bit."
Rahne nodded. "Aye, I understand. You've had a lot more dreams of the place, too, so there's a lot." And that probably meant that there were many more dreams to come. Rahne wasn't sure how she felt about that.
"You have no idea..." Kitty reached over and patted Rahne's hand, "I'm sorry."
Rahne smiled. "I reckon I'll deal with it as it comes." Even if she still didn't plan tyo tell anyone about the one about falling in love with a mythical wolf prince.
"Well if you ever want to talk about it, you can call me." Kitty gave her a reassuring smile, "Even if it's late at night and you don't have anyone else to call."
"Thanks," Rahne said. "I really appreciate that."
"I'll try not to be too grumpy." She winked.
Rahne chuckled. "Maybe it won't end up happening too late or too early."
