I want her back home by midnight
Who: Korrasami and Astrid What: Valentine's Day Date When: 2/14/2015 Where: Astrid's place and then the car Status: complete Rating: Tame
One red dress, shoulderless and with a slit up past her knee and made from a shimmery fabric. Her best make-up (less her armor and more a weapon, tonight). Hair done up and hanging down in waves. Her best smolder - practiced. Heels that added four inches to her height - when she already had three or four inches on Korra.
Asami was ready for her first valentine’s day date… ever. She picked a car with a roomy back seat after dodging her dad on the way to the garage, and sped off. If she was lucky he hadn’t noticed and even if he had she hoped he assumed she was sneaking off to see a guy. She’d left some hints to that effect, anyway. It made her feel a little ill - but she wasn’t ready to confront her dad on that until she moved on the illegal warehouses.
She pulled up to Astrid’s place, then got out of the car. She walked up to the apartment and knocked.
It was Astrid that greeted her with an open door, casually dressed with her blonde hair bundled up into a mop on top of her head. It was a lazy day, alright - no one to impress tonight. She wasn’t Korra, after all. “Heeey! Come in, she’s almost done!”
She had to grab her phone off the kitchen nook real quick, because it was picture time! “Korra! Your woman’s here!”
"Oh god do I have to come out of here?" Korra shouted from the bathroom. She was staring at herself in the mirror, because... well, she didn't look at all like herself. With some help from Astrid (and a whole lot of awkward fumbling), she'd managed to get her hair to do something besides hang around her face. There was make up, and Astrid had helped her find a dark blue dress with just a little bit of silver detailing. It wasn't too girly, and it showed off her arms.
Apparently Asami really loved her arms. But the slit up the side meant shoes mattered, and she had to wear pantyhose. This was all some crazy territory for her. She smoothed her dress a bit, "I feel so naked right now."
Asami was standing awkwardly in the center of the room when Korra came out. She opened her mouth, but only squeaked a little as her face started turning the same color as her dress. Korra. In dress. Panty hose. Arms. And it wasn't like she hadn't seen her naked (though that was always one of those things that kept blowing her mind), but Korra. In Dress. She got a stupid grin on her face and found her voice. "You look... You look really nice. Gorgeous."
An impressed low whistle blew from Astrid’s lips, and she waggled her brows ever-so suggestively. “See? It’s not so bad, is it?” Korra was fine the way she was, but if she wanted to be polished up some, then Astrid was more than happy to oblige. “You two look amazing. Which means I need to take a picture.”
Her phone was readied. “This is a beautiful moment to cherish: Korra in a dress!”
At first, Korra didn't respond. She forgot about her own insecurities, even, because Asami in the dress she was in was probably the most breathtaking sight she'd ever seen. So breathtaking she even actually forgot to breathe for a second. When she spoke, it sounded like she was still struggling with the concept, "Wow...."
Then she realised Astrid was waiting to take a picture, and she let out a nervous laugh, "Oh! Right. You're not going to use this as blackmail later I hope. Me in a dress. I guess it probably should be saved for posterity."
She walked up and put an arm around Asami, so that they could both fit into the picture, then smiled for the camera.
"Definitely save it for posterity because I don't know if I'll get her into a dress like this again." Asami didn't take her eyes off of Korra until it was picture time. She slid her hand up Korra's back and bit her lip.
And snap! Or whatever the little picture noise was that the iPhone made at this rate. It wasn’t blurry, they weren’t blinking in it, and it didn’t even need one of those weird lighting filters. It was perfect. “I needed a picture of my creation, too,” Astrid said, grinning widely at the girls.
What an asshole, Asami’s father was. Geez. His daughter was obviously happy - who the hell cared if it was in the arms of another female? Hopefully the whole thing would blow over. Not that she minded having Korra around, it was just…
A shitty situation.
“I want her back home by midnight,” she joked, pointed fingers at Asami in the ‘I’m watching you’ kind of way. “Take care of my little girl. She’s growing up way too fast!”
"She really did pretty much create this," Korra added as a side note, before she laughed and stuck her tongue out at Astrid, "OKay Mom, don't wait up. I'm so glad we avoided any of those awkward prom night birds and bees conversations."
She grabbed her bag, which had a Valentine's gift hidden in it, and slung it over her shoulder. Her hand didn't let go of Asami's once during the process; Now that they were together she almost didn't want to ever let her go.
This whole situation really was shitty. But at least they'd have a good time tonight!
“Thank you, Astrid.” She got close enough to give Astrid a kiss on the cheek. “I’ll be sure to get her home before she turns into a pumpkin, which will probably be in time for breakfast tomorrow.” She winked, then started to guide her girlfriend towards the door, hand still pressed into Korra’s back.
A burst of giggles came from Astrid and she covered her mouth to stifle them. “Okay, ladies - I’m sure you can find a place that isn’t my couch to make love on, too. But if my place is last resort, just try and keep it quiet. I have classes in the morning.” Her tongue poked out playfully and she followed them to the door, watching them with a lean against the doorframe and a wave of fingers. “Have fun! And be careful!”
Good thing Asami was practically a ninja and Korra was an elemental bending freakazoid; Astrid pitied the dumbass that tried to mess with them. Things were hairy out there, but they’d be okay. Badass girls do badass things, dammit.
All of the comments about what they'd be doing after dinner and where they'd be doing it made Korra's cheeks turn bright red. Her entire face soon followed suit, and her ears were joining in by the time they made it out the door. She giggled nervously and turned to give Astrid a quick thumbs-up before her roomie shut the door.
"We really aren't going to uhm... not on Astrid's couch, right?" she squeaked out as they headed towards Asami's car.
Korra’s blushing was always a delight to Asami. She winked at Astrid, then guided Korra to her car. “Oh no. I reserved a hotel room on a card my dad doesn’t know about.” She glanced at Korra as she opened the car door and realized she’d been assuming. “If you… you know. Want to.”
"Oh my god why wouldn't I want to? I mean..." Korra fumbled with the words, wishing for once that she was as good with those as she was with things like breaking entire rooms with airbending. Her hand nervously poked at her hair, "You know. It's a big deal. Valentine's day, our first big date, it's almost like those prom nights you see on TV that are always way more awesome than actual prom night."
Asami flashed back to her own prom night and winced. “Can I let you in on a secret about my prom night?” She got the car started and got them on the road. She was taking Korra to a place that served food that was very similar to Water Tribe cuisine and she hoped Korra would appreciate that. Asami had done some research and figured out that there were similarities between their dream world and multiple cultures of the waking world. Which made sense, especially with how Tenzin was.
"Sure! You can always tell me your secrets." Korra tried to make herself comfortable in the car. The shoes on her feet were already bothering her, but they were cute and strappy and went well with the dress. She just wasn't sure how to sit in a car with heels that high strapped to her feet.
She crossed her leg, then uncrossed it, then finally placed both heeled feet flat on the floor of the car, though that didn’t look lady like at all, “I hope one of those secrets involves how anyone does anything in shoes like this.”
Korra was adorable when she fidgeted. Asami couldn’t love her more if she tried. It was actually really scary how much she did. In her dreams she was only starting to be dimly aware of her feelings, a sort of dull ache inside her chest whenever she looked at Korra. Or a confusing electricity whenever they touched. She wondered when or how she’d figure it out. “Sadly, that just comes from experience. I mean, uhm… So I was going through some old pictures and I found my prom pictures, and you’re not going to believe who my date was.”
Korra furrowed her brow, "Who? Mako? Is he here and he just isn't dreaming yet?"
She wasn't sure who else Asami would have gone to her prom with who would come as that big of a shock. It had to be someone from the dreams, right? Wait, wasn't her dad trying to hook her up with - "It isn't Lord Zuko, is it? It's still SO weird that he's here and so young. And actually kind of hot."
Of the two of them, Korra seemed to be the one with less boy experience. She often thought that if there was some kind of scale she probably tipped closer to girls than guys. Maybe she just had a type. She'd seen Zuko's profile picture and that was definitely a type she could get on board with.
Not that she'd ever do that, because her love for Asami outshone any other attraction by a long shot.
“Oh, no, it’s not Lord Zuko. It was Mako, though. And it never really occured to me that it might be our Mako until I saw his picture again. He was...pretty clueless here too.” She frowned a little, then shrugged. “I’ve had lunch with Zuko. I wanted to tell him in person I was seeing someone and he was completely on board with being against this whole arrangement thing. I think he likes someone else anyway.”
Asami smiled ruefully. “I kind of wish I’d done something with him instead of that douche canoe but you can’t change the past.”
"Wait, with Mako? Or with Zuko?" Korra arched a brow a bit, trying to decide for herself which one of those she'd be less annoyed about. That whole mess with the douchebag guy hadn't been a fun time in their friendship. Would it have been a little easier to swallow if it had been Mako?
Her lips pursed a bit, and she shook her head, "The past is the past, yeah. Maybe it's better if we don't think about it too much. We're together now, and that's the important part."
“With Zuko,” she corrected. “He’s really handsome. But you’re beautiful and strong and you do way more to me than he ever could.” Her voice lowered several octaves as she finished that sentence. She suddenly wanted to make it very clear to Korra how attractive she was. “Sometimes I catch myself staring at you.”
"Uhhm..." Korra trailed off, and blushed again. She'd been about to say something about the whole Zuko thing, but Asami's admission over staring at her drowned the rest of it out, "I used to sneak into your work area just to watch you work. And in the dreams I like watching you work, too. You're hot when you've got those grease smudges on your cheeks."
“You’ve really watched me work?” The thought made Asami feel a little bashful. She ducked her head as she pulled up to the restaurant. “I like watching you do your Avatar thing. And the bending. When you go through your forms. When I was staying on the island I always made sure I’d get up early enough to watch you go through them.”
"Oh yeah, like when you put together that sand sled? And before that, when the airship crashed. And even here in real life, when you're working on your cars. I hope I get to see you put together the airship in real life!" Korra loved watching Asami work, almost as much as she enjoyed showing off.
"I think dream me shows off a LOT for you, sometimes she doesn't even realise why."
“I’ll be sure to let you know when I’m working on it. I might need your help anyway. No better muscle than the Avatar.” She winked at her girlfriend. “You mean like when you flew Mako around on that whirlwind?” She was pretty sure Korra had been flirting then. And other times too, now that she thought about it. The thought made her heart flip around in circles. She reached for Korra’s hand. She’d gotten them a great table, but she stole another kiss first.
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Korra. You make me feel like the luckiest woman in the world.”
