Celaena was lying sprawled on the bed as Izzy was going through some clothes in the wardrobe. Today they were just hanging out and trying on some new clothes they'd bought earlier on. "How are things with the Bakery? Everything settled down since the break - in?"
“Settled down well. The support from our regulars has been amazing actually” Izzy said, as she pulled one of the new tops over her head before turning, “Audrey is going to start coming round with the baby regularly soon I think. He’s absolutely adorable, for a baby” They weren’t her thing but she had to admit it was cute and pretty well behaved.
"That's good, I'd hate to find another coffee shop to frequent," Celaena sighed, turning her head to the side to look at Izzy in her new top. "That's really nice," she smiled at her friend. "You've met the baby then? What's his name?"
“We’d never let that happen” Izzy promised before thanking her with a grin. “I have, his name is Benedict Matthew but they’re calling him Ben for short. It suits him from what I’ve seen so far”
“Can a name suit a baby?” Celaena frowned at the idea as she turned her head to look back up at the ceiling. “I mean, they’re just little podgy balls of skin, aren’t they? Do they have much personality at that age?” she wondered aloud.
“He seems to” Izzy said, “He makes funny faces and stuff even if Merlin says it’s probably just wind” she grinned.
Celaena laughed at that. “Oh the joys of parenthood,” she replied, turning over so she was lying on her front and looking at Izzy. “Have you ever thought about kids and stuff?” she asked, looking at her nails and deciding she needed to get Izzy to give her a manicure once they’d finished trying on clothes. How had she let her nails get into such a state? Probably training with Damian...
“I’m not really the maternal type” Izzy said, “I just want to enjoy my life and maybe be a good Aunt if Magnus and Alec chose to have children” she added with a shrug, “How about you?”
“Same here and besides, my body’s a temple, why would I give that up?” Celaena grinned at her friend as she moved to sit cross-legged on her friend’s bed. Celaena had a, hopefully, long career as a dancer ahead of her and she wasn’t about to jeapordise that for anything. “You’re lucky you might get to be an aunt though. Don’t suppose they’ll let me be one by proxy, would they?” she asked, looking at her nails again. “Hey, would you mind giving me a manicure when you’re finished?”
“Well exactly, your figure is pretty much perfection. I wouldn’t give it up that’s for sure” Izzy grinned at her friend, “I know for a fact they’d happily let you be an aunt” she added. Because Magnus and Alec were nice people and Izzy was a spoiled little sister. “Not a problem, color or clear varnish?” she asked, pulling off her new top and putting her old one back on.
“I know, right?” Celaena replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. Modesty and humility were not two of her virtues. “And thanks by the way, right back at ya,” she winked at her best friend. “Aww, you really think so? That would be really cool...think they’d let me teach their kids how to dance?” she wondered randomly. “Uhh...clear I think,” she said, eyeing her nails once more.
Modesty and humility were overrated in Izzy’s opinion. If you looked good then admit it, she didn’t see why people should deny it. “Of course. And I think Magnus would absolutely love it if you taught their kids how to dance” Izzy grinned, it would help with the shadowhunter training too to have good balance and flexibility. “Clear, is not a problem” she added before moving to retrieve the box of nail varnishes and manicure sets she had.
“I suppose the only way to make sure Magnus couldn’t refuse my offer is to include glitter in every lesson,” Celaena joked, she knew of Magnus’ fondness for all things shiny. “I think that’s probably the only thing I’d be able to teach a kid,” she said, holding her hands out for Izzy to start her work. “What would you teach their kids?” she asked, watching Izzy move to start working.
Izzy laughed at that, “You know the way to his heart” she said with a smile. “Me?” she removed a nail file and took Celaena’s hand in her own, “Fighting skills, dress sense maybe because my brother is too boring clothes wise and Magnus is a little too eccentric” she winked.
Celaena chuckled at that. “It’s true, someone needs to find the happy fashion medium between the pair of them,” she grinned. “Are they thinking about kids then?”
“Honestly I don’t know” Izzy said, “It’s not really something Alec and I have talked about but I think he’d make a really great dad. Magnus too, he’d be cool”
"Shame they can't have kids biologically really," Celaena replied, tilting her head to one side. "Imagine how awesome a Shadowhunter Warlock kid would be. He'd kick ass and look fabulous at the same time," she joked, imaging a black haired kid in tailored black leathers and covered in glitter while holding a sword to someone's throat.
“It really is” Izzy nodded, “But they’ll love it anyway” She laughed then, “Of course he would I mean look how well I do?” Izzy said temporarily pausing in preparing her friends nails to throw her hair over her shoulder and pose for a moment.
Celaena laughed at Izzy posing. “Of course, how foolish of me,” she grinned, before returning to watch Izzy working on her nails. The break in conversation sobered her a little. “What about the family? How did they react to Alec bringing Magnus back to meet them?” she asked curiously.
Izzy shrugged, “I think my mom was a little sad but she honestly likes Magnus. My dad...he’s an idiot. He hasn’t spoken to Alec since then. He’s a small minded idiot” Things were very clear in her head, if anybody no matter who they were, was mean to Alec about his sexuality then they simply weren’t worth her or Alec’s time.
“Geez, that’s gotta be hard, sorry,” Celaena winced, it sounded awful. “Do you still talk to him? Where does he live?” she asked.
Izzy shook her head, “I’m not talking to him until he talks to Alec. Nicely” she added, “They live in New York with our little brother Max”
“Too right, he should love Alec regardless,” Celaena agreed stoutly. She paused for a little while. “What about you? Are you seeing anyone?” she asked curiously.
“Me? No” she shook her head, “I’m happy with where I am right now. Career wise as well as personally. How about you? Is that what all these questions are about? You got yourself a guy Cel?”
“Wha…? Me? Nah…” Celaena shook her head, ducking her head and focusing on what Izzy was doing to her nails as a light blush rose up her neck and to her cheeks.
“Oh my god you do!” Izzy announced, “Tell me all right now or I’m leaving you with half done nails” she threatened.
“You wouldn’t!” Celaena looked up at her friend, horrified at the thought. Knowing not to test Izzy’s resolve on the matter and not daring to go out of the Institute with half finished nails, she relented. “It’s not…” she sighed and slumped a little. “We’re not...he’s just a friend, that’s all,” she shrugged, feeling ridiculous half-admitting she might have a bit of a crush on someone.
Izzy simply raised her eyebrows, oh she would if her friend didn’t spill. Izzy could be ruthless sometimes, “Aww Cel, you like a boy” she teased gently, “It’s not a bad thing you know. We just need to get you guys together”
“No, you will not try any kind of setting up shenanigans,” Celaena warned. “I don’t even know if he likes me, so I’m not forcing the issue. He said he wants to come and see one of my shows which I hope means he does like me, but he’s always been...I don’t know,” she shrugged. “Cautious. I think he might have been hurt before,” she explained.
“Spoil my fun” Izzy grumbled but with a smile, “You should ask him out, after the show. Just casually and see what happens. Best way to get over pain in the past is move on to the future” or something, she remembered reading that she was sure.
“Is that from your vast knowledge of having your heart stomped on? Aren’t you normally the one doing the stomping?” Celaena teased with a grin. “I’ll see how it goes. He may not even come to a show yet,” she reasoned, even though the thought made her feel a little sad.
“That’s what I tell those I stomp on” Izzy told her with a grin, though in all honesty she tended to chose those who wouldn’t get too serious. “Then invite him to one” she said simply, “Make a move”
"Really? You think I should?" Celaena asked dubiously. "What would I say? And not sound like a dork?"
“You get free tickets right? Just offer him one” Izzy said, “Make it really casual. Like, you know, ‘If you’re still interested in seeing the show I can get you a comp ticket if you like’”
“Ok,” Celaena thought about it a bit more, more confident with that idea than straight out asking him on a date. “Yeah, I can do that, thanks Iz,” she nodded to herself, smiling at the prospect. Although god knows what her parents would think!
