After checking into the buildings Stark Industries owned and locating a few options she’d sent the details to Hiccup and he’d picked one. Pepper felt bad she hadn’t been able to get away until now to meet with him and make sure everything was okay but she’d arranged to see him at the unit to talk to him. And, she had to admit, she was hoping to meet at least one of the dragons. It was exciting that there were actual dragons around.
Pulling up she parked the car and saw the young man by the main doors of the unit which was an old plane hanger and certainly looked large enough for even giant creatures.
It was fate that someone was able to help out with the dragon situation. It had been killing Hiccup that he didn’t have a place for them until Ms Pepper Potts appeared on the network and offered to help him out. The hangar had been perfect when he went to scope it out and he was able, with Astrid’s help, get Toothless and Stormfly inside of it. They seemed quite pleased with it and Hiccup was just happy to have them out of the public eye and potentially scaring people.
And he was more than happy to let Pepper come see the dragons. They seemed to have the same mild temperament as they did in the dreams, so he was sure that things would go okay with the meeting. He heard the car approaching and he left the two dragons to go and greet her, “Hi!”
Pepper was pleased she had been able to help and honestly hadn’t minded at all. Stark prided itself on helping those who needed it and doing good work as well as being a successful company.
“Hi” she replied with a smile, “Hiccup right? Pleased to meet you, I’m sorry wasn’t able to show you the hangar personally when you first came to look at it”
“Yep, and I hope that you’re Ms Pepper or else I’m going to look like a fool,” Hiccup laughed as he held his hand out in greeting, “And don’t worry about that. It’s not a big deal at all. You’ve got far more important things going on. I’m just excited that you’re stopping by now and you can see the dragons.”
Once the handshake was over he would push open the door into the hanger again and hold it open that she could enter it before him and he would make sure that the dragons didn’t rush over to see her.
“Not at all and please it’s just Pepper” she told him with a smile, “I have to admit I am very excited to meet the dragons” She followed him after shaking his hand, her heart pounding in anticipation of seeing the creatures for herself.
“Stormfly is actually Astrid’s dragon and she tends to listen to her more, but Toothless usually listens to me,” He could never actually count on Toothless to follow all his commands, but the two of them were slowly getting there. They walked into the hanger and the two dragons stopped what they were doing and quickly made their way over. Hiccup had to hold his hand up to get them to stop, “Hold up, guys. You need to be gentle and calm.” They certainly made for an intimidating picture, but he hoped Pepper wasn’t freaking out yet as he turned to look over his shoulder.
Luckily Pepper was generally rather calm and thanks to her dreams used to things which were a little on the unusual side. The dragons were a little more unusual than she was used to but her fascination overrode her worry and her eyes were bright and smile wide as she looked at them. “They’re incredible” she breathed, her eyes flicking over the dragons before resting once more on their faces.
“Aren’t they?” He walked over towards Toothless and Stormfly and glanced over his shoulder to make a motion for Pepper to follow him, “Come on over. Just approach slowly and hold your hand out. They’re a bit like dogs and it’s better to let them smell you before you pet them.” He held his hand out to Toothless who quickly came over and rubbed up against his hand. He continued to let Toothless’ head as he watched Pepper, ready to react if necessary.
Pepper nodded and followed quietly, she held out her hand and allowed the dragons to move towards her and smell her in their own time just as instructed. She smiled as the blue colored one came closer and sniffed her hand, it was incredible being even this close and Pepper was in awe. “Hi” she said softly.
“You can feel free to pet her when you feel comfortable,” Hiccup commented as he watched Pepper standing there. Stormfly seemed to like Pepper because she quickly nuzzled her nose against Pepper’s hand and made happy noises, “Haha, I think she likes you!”
“I’m so glad she does” Pepper said, glancing at Hiccup before petting the large dragon. “Because I think she is wonderful, aren’t you?” she said focusing on the dragon. “I still can’t quite believe you’re here”
Hiccup couldn’t help but chuckle at how Pepper was acting. It was great to see the dragons getting along with someone else and how she seemed to take to the dragons quite easily. It wouldn’t be like this with everyone, but it was a step towards progress. However, Toothless was starting to feel left out and he moved over towards Pepper to see what was going on, “Yeah, it’s surreal having them here, but they’ve become such a big part of my dreams that I couldn’t imagine not having them.”
Pepper wasn’t easily scared and she had the reassurance of Hiccup being there, she figured he wouldn’t introduce her to them unless he was fairly confident nothing would happen. “I can imagine” she smiled, petting Toothless as he came over and butted her arm, “But if they were in my dreams I’d have been wishing for them to being here from day one”
“Yeah, it was weird to start dreaming and then not having them here. I’ve always wanted a pet, so I’ve just got a major upgrade on that one. I feel like dream me just keeps taking over my personality more and more because the idea of going out and exploring on a dragon sounds incredibly appealing,” Hiccup commented with a laugh, “What are your dreams about?”
“Honestly I can’t imagine many people not wanting to do exactly that if they had dreams about it” Pepper told him kindly before smiling. “Mine aren’t far off from my life, I still work for Stark but we happen to have bad guys including aliens attempting to threaten the earth every now and then. It keeps things interesting at least”
“Ah! You get to hang out with the superheroes! That’s kind of awesome as well. I mean, instead of having a dragon you get superheroes. It’s kind of fun to dream about things that are far from the norm in this world,” Hiccup commented with a laugh, “Maybe next time you come over we can try to get you out for a spin on one of them.”
“I guess so. I never thought about it like that but you’re right. I’m a superhero wrangler” she said with a chuckle, “Really? I have never been more glad that I don’t have the fear of heights my dream counterpart does”
“If you had a fear of heights we wouldn’t do it, but since you don’t, it will totally happen,” He checked his phone to make sure he wasn’t missing out on anything and let out a sigh, “Looks like Astrid is trying to get a hold of me. We better say bye to the dragons, but you are totally welcome back anytime.”
Pepper nodded, “I should be getting back anyway. I’m just glad this place is working well for you all” she added before she said goodbye and petted the dragons once more.
“Thank you again for all your help,” Hiccup was so thankful that someone was willing to help him out. Pepper was an amazing lady and he was glad they were able to become friends and that the dragons liked her, “And I’ll walk out with you.” He pet the dragons one last time and promised to come back with Astrid before heading to the exit with Pepper.
