Portia was hunting down the perfect fabric, determined to find the best she could for what she needed. After all this would be the most high profile film she’d worked on so far. She’d ended up in her favorite shop and the owner had been more than happy to help her out. Portia was well known in here as she was in a number of fabric shops, which had only increased since she’d started working at the film studio since they’d get a credit if she used enough fabric from their business.
Lots of swatches and checking later she left with a few bags full of material she thought would work well and was humming happily until she turned the corner and walked straight into someone. Dropping her bags she grabbed the person arm to keep from falling. “Sorry” she said automatically.
Peeta had decided to go to the mall to grab some new clothes because he had recently ruined a few more articles of clothing while at the bakery. One maaaay have caught on fire for a brief moment and the others tended to get large stains from his supplies. It really wasn’t a big deal and he usually kept those shirts around for things just like that, but he would need to replace them no matter what.
He was leaving the shop with a bag in his hand when someone turned the corner and ran right into him. He stumbled slightly and the person’s hand grabbed onto his arm. He reached out to help balance them, oh a woman, her. “Are you okay?” Once she seemed righted he reached down to help gather her bags.
“Oh I’m...” Portia looked up and realised who she had ran into, it took her a moment to recover, “fine. I’m fine. Really it was my fault, are you okay?” she said smiling as he helped her pick up her bags. She couldn’t believe that the person stood in front of her was Peeta, “I am sorry”
“Oh yeah, I’m great. Going to take more than that to injure me,” Peeta admitted with a laugh as he held out her bags to her and shook his head as she apologised once more, “And don’t worry, I’m fine. You don’t have to apologize, it happens quite often. You’re a lot more polite than half the people who bump into me on the street.”
“Oh well thank you” Portia said with a smile, “I don’t see why I should be rude, especially not when it was my fault” she told him. “I’m Portia” she added holding out her hand.
“Peeta, nice to meet you, I think. I mean we just ran into each other, but hopefully I didn’t hurt you,” Peeta reached out to take her hand and shook it firmly. It felt strange to meet someone this way, but then again he was a nice enough guy and wanted to make sure that she wasn’t hurt.
Portia knew it must be strange but she couldn’t stop herself, she wanted to know him here. He’d been so important to her in the dreams. “Not at all and it’s very nice to meet you. Can I buy you a coffee?” she offered, “As an apology for almost winding you with my shopping”
“Sure, I’m pretty much done shopping. Can’t really complain about someone offering to buy me coffee,” Peeta flashed her a smile as he picked his own bag up from the floor. He really needed to be a bit more cautious around strangers, but she seemed quite nice. There was something familiar there, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it just yet.
“Great” Portia said with her own smile, “So Peeta, what is it you do?” she asked curiously as they made their way to a nearby cafe where Portia could get them both coffees. She was looking forward to getting to know this Peeta better.
“I run a bakery called Mellarky. I mostly do cake decorating, but I also bake,” He commented as they walked into the cafe and made their way up to the counter. He pulled a business card out of his wallet and handed it over to her, “Here ya go. What about you, Portia?”
“Thanks. That sounds great, you must be very talented” she said as they joined the short queue, “I’m a fashion stylist. Currently I’m working on costumes for a film studio” she told him with a smile, she loved her work.
“I am inclined to think so since I get a decent amount of business, but I don’t like to brag about it,” Peeta was very humble when it came to the success of his business because it all depended upon people liking his product. He didn’t want to go out and say that he was the best and turn people off from coming to him, “And that actually sounds really cool. Must be so much fun to do costumes for films.”
“In that case I’ll have to stop by sometime so I can start bragging about it” Portia told him with a smile, it seemed his humble nature was the same here as in the dreams. It was part of what endeared him to her. “It’s a lot of fun. I’ve done a lot with what I do but this is by far the most varied and interesting”
“You can definitely come by. It makes the day more interesting when people I actually know stop by. Just let me know if you have a sweet tooth for something in particular and I can make up a batch,” Peeta was really good at making sure to keep his customers happy especially when that customer was a personal friend of his, “At least it’s never boring. And doing something you love is the most important thing.”
“Thank you, I’ll definitely let you know. Though my sweet tooth covers pretty much everything” she grinned at him, because it was very true she was a sucker for anything chocolatey or sweet at all.
“I don’t think I’d do very well in a job I didn’t enjoy” she admitted, “I need to feel creative”
“Well, it’s good you found one then. Having a dead end job that you hate seems like a fate worse than death. I’m glad I get to do something I enjoy as well,” Peeta lifted up his coffee cup and gave her a cheers with a chuckle, “Cheers to not having our creativity stifled.”
Portia smiled happily, “I will drink to that and to new friends” she added before taking a sip of her drink.
