Who: Peggy and Athos Where: Agency When Early Feb What Catching up Rating: Low/None Status: Complete
Athos had just returned to the office from a call out to check reports of a suspicious creature which was thought to be dream related, but as it turned out was just a weird looking dog which had escaped from it’s owners backyard. So that would be an hours worth of paperwork for nothing. Irritating but part of the job.
Entering the room he saw he wasn’t the only one there, “Miss Carter” he greeted, “Sharon swapped days so won’t be in until tomorrow if you’re looking for her” he said with a respectful nod.
Peggy was down in the main office getting a few things sorted out when Athos approached her. “Thank you for letting me know,” Peggy had wondered for a moment, but usually her cousin let her know if something was going on. She pulled her pen out of from behind her ear and scribbled the information down on her folder that she was holding onto, “I appreciate you letting me know. How are things going for you?”
She hadn’t talked to the Musketeers as much as Sharon did, but with this new position she was determined to make sure she got a status update on all her Agents. She wanted to make sure that she was able to address anything that needed it and people knew that she was open and available to talk to.
“Pretty quiet right now” Athos told her, “But you know what it’s like around here never quiet for long” he smiled. “Congratulations by the way, on your appointment as director” he added.
Athos was a good agent, he submitted reports on time and led his team well. He appreciated Peggy coming down here and her openness to all the agents working for her.
“Exactly. It’s like someone is out there listening for you to say it’s quiet and then all hell will break loose,” Peggy teased with a soft laugh. It was so completely true, unfortunately. It was almost like they jinxed themselves when they ever said it was quiet. She certainly didn’t want something crazy going on right now because she was enjoying this day so far.
“And thank you very much. I’m excited for the change and to see the Agency from another level. Hopefully I’ll keep it running just as smoothly as Director Fury,” Peggy gave him a happy smile when he congratulated her. Those congratulations were coming quite often now that it was official and Peggy was happy to see people were receiving the news well.
“That’s my theory, it may sound paranoid but after a while you have to admit there must be something else going on. We all need a vow of silence for a while so nobody can jinx us” he chuckled wryly. It was nice when they had a few quiet days though.
“Oh I have no doubt that you will. And anything me or my team can do to help please just let us know” he offered. He respected Peggy, she was determined and fierce yet fair and kind. She would lead them well he felt.
“Thank you very much for that offer. I’ll see if I can think up anything. I’ve been so bogged down with the mountain paperwork that came with this changing of the guard. I just want to get out and go into the field, so don’t be surprised if I come around asking you to join a team of mine,” Peggy loved being out in the field far more than sitting at her desk, but it was going to be a little more challenging to get out there now that she had a more important title.
“Anytime” Athos said easily, “I know the feeling, sometimes it’s easy to forget how much paperwork comes with this job” Being the team leader meant Athos had more but he didn’t mind so much. Unlike D’Artagnan who got easily distracted and procrastinated a lot.
“And I know that Sharon probably wants to be out in the field as much as she possibly can before the pregnancy takes that away,” And Peggy was more than willing to help Sharon out with that because she was certainly partial towards her cousin. Sharon was a very good agent and she wanted to make sure that they were able to utilize her fully as long as possible, “Have you heard rumblings of anything we need to investigate? I can’t really get a handle on this crime wave.”
Athos was already watching Sharon more closely, he didn’t really think she should be in the field at all right now but he knew that wouldn’t go down well with the women. He wasn’t sexist but he was somewhat old fashioned. “Nothing, nobody seems to know anything and there isn’t much of a connection between the incidents” It was puzzling and rather annoying.
Peggy would secretly agree with Athos because she was concerned for Sharon’s health. Field work wasn’t at all suited for a pregnant woman, but Sharon would fight tooth and nail if they took that away from her. She would just make sure never to send her out somewhere incredibly dangerous. “Frustrating. It’s hard to fix things when it just keeps happening. I think that the police around here are starting to get annoyed as well,” Peggy let out a bit of a sigh. It was something that she was never going to be able to figure out, “I guess if we just keep fighting that’s all we can do.”
Athos would keep an eye on her anyway and if she wasn’t on his team he’d make sure someone looked out for her. “Exactly, it just makes no sense that there’s no pattern” he said, running a hand through his hair. “But yeah, we’ll just keep trying to make the county safe for everybody”
“That’s all we can do,” She smiled at that idea. That’s all they were doing when you got down to it - making the county safe. That’s all that mattered to Peggy in the end, “Alright, I better head upstairs. Gotta get started on some meetings and the mountain of paperwork that will follow. It was really good to talk to you though, Athos. Feel free to stop by my office at any time if you ever get the inclination.”
“You too boss” he nodded moving to sit at his own desk, “I’ll be sure to stop by. Enjoy your mountain, I imagine it’s taller than mine” he added with a grin.
