It hadn’t been long since her own college graduation, but she was certainly feeling quite pleased that this wasn’t her life anymore the moment she set foot on the campus of UCI. It was almost as if she could tangibly feel the stress in the air and she felt a bit of pity for all the busy students on campus. She paused by a map and took a moment to figure out where Nik’s office was. She hadn’t been to visit him before, but she wanted to stop by for a lunchtime surprise on her day off. Once secure in where she was going she started to walk towards his office and into the building. She was caught off guard at how nice everything was and was looking at something as she walked forward that she didn’t notice the young redhead come into her path before the two of them made contact. “I’m so sorry!” she quickly responded as she reached out to steady the girl.
Anna was in a rush. She didn’t like being out between classes without Caroline or Sti--well. Maybe not Stiles. They weren’t speaking at the moment, as much as it pained Anna. But she had Caroline and Hans and whoever else to walk her from class to class. This was just a quick errand; she was running to Professor Mikaelson’s office to drop off a book, then heading to the parking lot to her car. And she was practically running.
But a blonde gal got in her way. Or, rather, Anna plowed into a blonde girl. She jumped and gasped. “OhmygoshI’msosorry!”
Thankfully the girl was small enough that Rebekah didn’t think she broke anything in the impact, but she could certainly feel what may be a bruise forming on her arm. She reached down to rub it as she looked at the girl to assess if anything was hurt on her, “Are you okay? I’m so sorry about that. I should have been looking, but I didn’t even realize someone was running down the hallway.”
“No, I should have been looking,” Anna argued. She felt absolutely terrible for running into a stranger. “I really am very sorry. Just with all the crime and stuff… I didn’t want to be out and about too much? I was in a rush to see my former professor and get back to my car, you know?” Not that cars were safe. She kept hearing things about drive-by shootings, too.
“Well, I think you’re pretty safe inside a college hallway unless things are breaking out here. I honestly can’t say that I know if they are since I don’t go here. Did you want me to help you walk to your car or something?” Rebekah may not be a vampire, but she certainly felt a little stronger from the dreams and they certainly gave her some ideas on how to hurt someone if she needed to.
“Well, I heard that there was some vandalism. And a rock came through a window when I was in class not too long ago.” Anna said, shrugging her shoulders. “But I mean… I’m normally safe because I hang out with my friend Caroline, and… she’s stronger than she looks.”
“Forbes?” Rebekah asked instantly. She was curious if it was the same Caroline she knew since there weren’t that many of them running around in the OC and the description fit her right. She tucked some hair behind her ear and glanced around for a moment to see where she was in relation to Nik’s office, “And that vandalism doesn’t sound good. Also, do you know where Niklaus Mikaelson’s office is?”
Anna brightened considerably at the mention of Caroline’s last name, and nodded enthusiastically. “You know her? She pretty much adopted me this year.” As her best friend. Not as like, a daughter or something. “No, it’s really--” Anna paused for a moment. “Professor Mikaelson? That’s where I was dropping this book off.” She said, holding up the Art History book. “He was my professor last semester.”
“Yeah, she’s a friend of mine,” she was going to mention that she had the suspicion something was going on between Caroline and her brother, but that was personal business. But when the girl said she was going to drop that book off to Nik’s office she grinned, “Well perfect, I can walk with you then. I need to speak to him about a few things. How is he as a professor?”
“He was only my favorite professor last semester,” Anna said, grinning brightly. “He’s the best, actually. I mean, he made Art History fun. I know it’s sort of a dry subject, but it was a good class. Interesting, maybe, more than fun.” She realized she was babbling. “Sorry. I’m a bit of an art nut, so when it comes to that sort of thing I can get away with myself.”
“Haha, no worries! I like to hear when professors do a good job. Especially if they take such a dry subject and actually get you to like it. I know how that can go,” Rebekah commented as she followed along towards Nik’s office, “Does he teach more than just that one class? Could be useful to take him more times if he’s one of your favorite professors. It helps to learn from someone you like.”
“I don’t have anything on my schedule from him this semester,” Anna said, thinking about it. “But when I get a bit deeper into my major classes instead of just my general education requirements, I’ll definitely look into it. It really helps that he teaches in my major.”
“That’s great. I’m glad you’re enjoying his classes so far. I’m sure he enjoys hearing that from students,” and if she hadn’t told him that then she would certainly tell Nik herself with a grin. It was cute to see how many people adored him. It was always strange to see her brothers in their respective work places.
It might have been only slightly awkward that Caroline was dating Anna’s former professor. It came in handy when they were planning her surprise birthday party, though. Such a surprise to know that he’d been in on it the whole time. Anna beamed. “I’m glad that he doesn’t mind. I hope that I’m not a bother. This stuff just gets me excited! Being out and about, studying art, it’s all really wonderful.”
A smirk appeared on her face as she listened to Anna. Yeah, she was such a fun loving student and she was happy that someone was enjoying his classes, hopefully it was a sentiment shared by a lot of his students. They continued to walk before she noticed Nik’s name out of the corner of her eye, “Oh! this must be his office. Thank you for walking with me. Are you sure you’ll be okay getting to your car? I can come back after I walk with you.”
“No no, that’s okay. Can you hand this to Professor Mikaelson for me?” Anna asked, handing over the book. “He’ll know what it’s all about. There’s a post-it in the cover that explains everything.” She grinned brightly. “It was really nice bumping into you.”
“Nice to bump into you as well. I can certainly give him that for you,” she took the book with a grin and then held out her hand, “Oh and I forgot to introduce myself to you. Rebekah Mikaelson-Salvatore and I’m glad you really like my brother as a teacher. I’ll make sure to tell him that he’s giving rave reviews from random students when I talk to him. You be safe out there, okay?”
Anna reached forward and shook Rebekah’s hand shyly. “I’m Anna Arendelle. And thank you. And definitely do. I mean, tell him.” She grinned sheepishly, and withdrew her hand. “Thank you. I will. And you, too.” She gave a wave, then turned and headed off down the hallway toward the exit closest to the parking garage.
