Oh Jesus. Who: The Prince Brothers. When: Mid-January. Where: TK Prince Sr.’s house. What: A reunion. Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete.
Edward felt very good being back home. School was just so dull when you were actually doing it. Some people were just meant to smile and not do anything important. He had enough money to more than adequately live out his life. And, hey, wouldn’t he eventually get some sort of position in the company somewhere? Exactly.
That was far from his mind, though. He was lounging on a luxurious sofa, watching MTV, enjoying doing absolutely nothing. Also, it got his mind off the rudeness of some people on the internet. Imagine, being told he was self-righteous because he wanted a welcome home party. What did that even mean?
“Oh, Jesus,” Tom’s voice came booming from the doorway to the kitchen. He wasn’t sure where their mother got the produce in her house, but it was always fantastic. He had an apple in his hand, a couple of bites out of it. He’d been watching the television over his brother’s shoulder for a few minutes. “You’re not really watching that crap, are you?”
Tom hadn’t seen Edward in ages, and these were his first words to his brother? Tom simply smirked, and took another bite of apple.
Edward rolled his eyes, not looking at his brother. Instead, he turned up the volume, filling the room with the sound of Nicki Minaj’s Anaconda. “Sorry. Can’t hear you.” All right, so Edward couldn’t stop himself. He looked over his shoulder and flashed his big brother a large grin.
Hey, at least it was music on Music Television. Or did they cut the music part? Like KFC cutting out the word ‘chicken’ because the genetically modified food stuffs they served couldn’t be scientifically classified as true poultry? Tom wasn’t sure. It wasn’t a station he watched, anyway. He grinned back at his brother. then moved over and reached a hand down to ruffle Edward’s hair.
“When’d you get in, Brother?” Tom asked, then hopped over the sofa to take a place next to Eddie.
Once Tom sat down, Ed turned down the tv and changed the channel to something less offensive to one’s well being. “Sunday. So I forgive you for not coming to say hi to me sooner,” he said, giving his brother a very serious look. (It wasn’t actually serious at all.) “The east coast is so boring.”
“Well, if you’d told me you were coming home, I would have.” Tom said, dramatically. Playfully hurt. He couldn’t stop the smirk, though. “You’re back for good, then?” He asked, giving his brother an appraising look.
“I was aiming for the element of surprise,” was the equally dramatic surprise. “It’s not my fault you don’t keep up.” But Ed shrugged, leaning back against the couch. “I think so. I missed it out here. Once things sort out, I’m having a party.”
Tom laughed, clapped his hands once, and then shook his head in a gleeful way. “You and your parties. How I’ve missed them, dear Brother.” He replied, happily. “When is this party going to take place? You’re not moving back in here with Mother and Father, are you?”
“I’d like maybe to not have to worry about crime running rampant during what’s supposed to be a good time,” Ed admitted, with a thoughtful look. Then he shrugged again. “I guess I shouldn’t, should I? There’s a lot of space here but it might be better if I found my own place. Some penthouse somewhere, yeah? Way high up. Oh! Then I can have a housewarming party!”
“If that’s what you’re looking for, then go for it.” Tom said, grinning and nodding. “But you could have anything your heart desires, Brother. Why not go for a beachside abode? Or a manor with grounds for horses and stables?”
“I think I would like a view. Now you’ve given me options to think about.” Edward frowned. Decision making was not at all his strong point. “What would you do?”
“I’m living in a two bedroom condo.” Tom said, chuckling softly. “It’s modest. For my standards, anyway. It worked for what I wanted it for.” At first it was a place to bring women that wasn’t his parents’ place. Then he started staying there more and more. It was a great party place. He’d upgrade to something more serious eventually, but for now he was content with his pad.
Edward wrinkled his nose. A two bedroom condo? Of all the possible places, that’s what Tom went with? Well, clearly he could do much better than his brother. And he would. “I think I want something high up. With a view. Of the beach. Maybe on the beach. But tall.”
“Well, I’d expect nothing less from you.” Tom said, raising an eyebrow. Was that a challenge? Now he’d have to find a better place to live. Something Rose would like. --Damnit. He wasn’t supposed to be thinking about that. Not in front of Ed.
“Find the place first, then the party.” Tom suggested. “Clean beach house makes for an excellent party grounds.” Of course, Ed already knew that.
“That’s so reasonable,” Ed teased. He nudged his brother and laughed. “Come on. All this talk of grown up business. Tell me what you’ve been up to. I need to live vicariously through your experiences, college was a bore.”
“It’s been an endless party,” Tom grinned, putting on his Prince Tom air. It was easy; fake it til you make it. “Couple girls, couple clubs… I fit some work in between, too. What about you? Did you honestly get bored of the sexy coeds?”
“Eventually the new wave of freshman got tiring.” Glancing at his brother, Ed smirked a bit. “Everyone at Yale is so stuffy. I needed to get to fresh air again. I missed home. Life isn’t the same without you around to inspire me.”
“I know the feeling. I started to grow… complacent.” Tom gave his brother a smirk in return. “So, when do we hit the clubs? You know, there’s always new waves around here. And they never get tiring.”
“The sooner the better. Before I sink into the oblivion of bad television.” Ed turned off the TV with a dramatic exhale. “You name the place, and I’ll be there.”
