Who: Clary and Billy What: A friendly ear Where: Baxters When: Mid January Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Billy had called Clary and asked her to meet him for coffee again after he’d begun dreaming again. His conversation with Magnus had confused him and talking to Teddy had been even worse. Then Justin had started talking about going away before his birthday and he knew he needed to work out what he was doing. So Clary was needed.
When he saw her entering he called her over having already ordered their drinks, “I am so happy to see you” he told her as she sat down.
Clary was worried about Billy. His Dreams were really screwing with him lately and she felt awful for him, wished she could help him more. When he called for a meet up, she of course agreed and hurried to Baxter’s. As she came into the shop, she saw him waving her over and slid into the booth opposite him. “Hey, what’s happened? Are you ok?” she asked in concern, taking her bag off her shoulder.
“I don’t know” he told her miserably, “I don’t know who I am or what I’m doing or even what I want” he sighed. “Teddy thinks the dreams are our reality and who we’re supposed to be which, with our dreams, kind of makes sense but that can’t be right for everyone. I mean if I’d never moved here I wouldn’t have these dreams. Nobody had them before moving here” he said beginning to empty his head at his poor friend.
Clary watched helplessly as the poor boy poured his heart out. She reached over and placed her hand on his. “Oh Billy, I...I don’t know what to say,” she shook her head and bit her lip as she thought about what to say. “Does Justin know what’s been happening? With Teddy?”
He gripped her hand tightly, “Not really. I mean he knows what Teddy thinks, they had a talk and Teddy told him. But...I had some more dreams recently. They were kind of telling me that no matter what reality or world we’re in we’re kind of destined for each other. It’s got me really confused. I love Justin but I’m beginning to think I love Teddy too”
“Oh god Billy, I...what else has happened with Teddy? Here I mean, not in the Dreams. I assume that you two have spoken about how he feels? Did you tell him how you’ve been feeling?” Clary asked, trying to think of some sound advice to give her poor friend.
“I know how he feels. He’s all but said he loves me but I’ve not really said much about the new dreams” he admitted, “I don’t want to give him hope not when I’m so confused”
Clary looked him over, taking in his distressed look. She sighed and squeezed his hand. “Have you thought about getting away from it all? Just heading off for a couple of weeks to see if you can sort things out without either of them putting any pressure on you or anything?” she suggested.
Billy shook his head, “No, I haven’t. But you might be right. Being here with Justin and Teddy and the dreams I can’t think properly. I just...no matter what I do I’ll be hurting somebody won’t I?” he said, because when it came down to it Billy basically wanted a way out without hurting anybody.
Clary frowned and bit her lip before replying. “I don’t think there’s a happy ending for everyone if that’s what you’re asking,” she told him gently. “But if this is eating you up so much, you need to think about you,” she reminded him. “Ultimately you need to be happy with the decision you make and if you need to put some distance between you and them then that’s what you have to do,” she shrugged. “Sorry, but I think you’d rather hear it straight at this point,” she apologised.
“Please don’t apologise Clary” Billy said giving her a smile, “I appreciate it, honestly. I’d much rather hear the truth you’re right about that and you’ve been wonderful, honestly. I don’t know what I’d do without you” he squeezed her hand with his.
“You’d be a lot less addicted to coffee,” Clary joked lamely. “Sorry,” she shrugged a small apology. “So, do you think you could do it? Get away for a while?”
Billy actually chuckled, “I like my coffee addiction” he told her before nodding, “Yeah. Yeah I can, I need to. Justin has an art show this weekend coming so I’ll leave after that” Because he’d feel awful not being there to support him through it.
“Ok,” Clary smiled at him. “Well, would you want me to come to the art show with you? I’m not sure I can offer to go away with you, unless you want Jace hunting you down and demanding to know what you’re doing with his girlfriend,” she laughed, hoping to make him feel a little better.
“That would be nice. I think you’ll really like it, being a fellow artist and all” Billy said with a smile, “I could hold my own and by that I do mean cheat with magic because he would totally kick my ass without it”
“And tell you about his prowess while he’s doing it I imagine,” Clary laughed, patting his hand and hoping he’d look up. “I will never say no to an art show, so anytime,” she grinned at him. “How are you feeling now? Any better?”
“I am actually” Billy said looking at her with a smile, “How can I not when I have the best agony aunt friend around”
