Who: Maggie & Beth Greene
When: mid-January 2015
Where: Shoegasm, Huntington Beach
What: The Greene sisters do shoe shopping.
Status: Complete.
Leaving home had brought with it a lot of changes for Beth. She'd had to learn how to cook, how to balance everything in her life, and -- the dreams. The dreams were the biggest change since starting college. They were like reminders of a past that she no longer understood. But even in the dreams, her sister was there. And she was pretty sure that her sister would always be her best friend, zombie apocalypse or no. So, when she'd finally decided to head down to Huntington Beach to check out Cindy's shoegasm, she'd, of course, invited Maggie along. It was going to be a perfectly normal day. No mentions of weird dreams. No mentions of possibly, maybe, not really wanting to date her boss (dating was such an old-fashioned term, anyway). Just her and Maggie and shoes. It was going to be perfect. "I definitely need new sandals," she was saying as they walked into the store. It was a small store, but it seemed to have a pretty good selection. "After our trip to the beach, I realized that none of mine are really in style anymore." Maggie smiled a bit. She'd been content to hide in the barn all day but she'd let her sister drag her out. She brushed the hair from her eyes, and sighed. She'd forgotten how to be social lately. "I have in style footwear??" She grinned, she'd come into town with cowboy boots and jeans, she looked every part the country girl she was. She humored her sister. "Well then let's fix that and get you new sandals." She was not big on dating herself, but she would tease her sister mercilessly then glower at the man. She was protective of Beth. "Maggie," said Beth, fake exasperated. She knew her sister well enough to know that shopping wasn't really big on her to do list. And of course, her sister looked good in anything, so it didn't have to be. But that didn't mean she couldn't tease her mercilessly. "You have to get out of the barn sometime." She casually walked among the different shoes. There were a lot of platforms, and there were those awful gladiators. "I bet you could rock these…" She tapped a pair of leopard print platforms, far too high for Beth, who had a habit of tripping over her own feet. And if Beth was doing her best to ignore that they'd essentially spent all of New Year's Eve on a beach with her boss and his brother-in-law, she wasn't going to make it obvious. She was pretty sure her sister was on to whatever was going on there, anyway. And it had been good for them to get out together. And it had been fun. There was nothing to talk about. Really. "Or maybe these?" She pointed to a pair of gladiator sandals that wrapped around a mannequin's leg. They were coated in glitter, and well, awful was a word for it. Maggie grinned at her sister. “I do not. In fact I can probably live in the barn and be perfectly okay with that fact.” she teased as she looked around at all the shoes. Shoes she’d probably never wear because let’s face it, her life was spent in the BARN. “I could. Then i’d fall over and break a leg.” she laughed softly. Maggie of course had inklings of what was going on between Beth and her boss. It wasn’t hard to see. And honestly, she couldn’t blame her. Daryl was easy on the eyes and had a good personality to match. It wasn’t a bad catch. Although there was a tiny tinge of jealousy - Maggie could never land someone like that. Mostly because she smelled of horses all day. Not many people liked that. “Oh. My. God. So much glitter. Screw that.” she laughed as she shook her head. “I cannot even.. no no glitter. I hate glitter.” "Gosh, Maggie, I don't know how you ever did rodeos." She let go of the glittery gladiators and moved on to the more practical sandals. They were all the way in the back of the store, of course, shoved between a towering stack of snow boots. Not a sight that she often saw in the OC. "With all that anti-glitter attitude." She was teasing her sister. She knew that Maggie didn't do glitter, or sequins, or really anything super flashy. As she searched through the sandals, she turned back to her sister, "So. What have you been up to since New Year's? I swear we don't live in the same state sometimes." Maggie laughed softly. “You don’t need glitter to shine in the rodeo, you know. Although really it’s a trend I wish would go away.” she laughed again and shook her head. “I know. I’m a pariah in the rodeo world.” she put her hand to her forehead in mock horror. Then grinned. “I live in the barn. I swear. Prepping for new shows to do, teaching lessons, forgetting the world exists, you know the usual.” she smiled a bit. “You moved into the city, and I stayed outside on the edge. It’s almost like a world apart you know.” she teased. Beth shook her head. "That's not true, and you know it." She pulled one of the boxes off the shelf, setting it down to try the pair of shoes on. "I just have a lot going on now with babysitting and volunteering on top of school and work…" She pushed off her own boot as she talked and slipped on one of the sandals. They looked funny with her socks, but otherwise, they were pretty nice. "I guess that is pretty far from living in a barn, isn't it?" As she put her other shoe back on, she said, rather seriously, "I'm going to just have to work out visiting to you more. I bet Daryl'd like the horses… Or y'know, his brother-in-law's kid might." She didn't know how she'd get Carl out to a barn. From her dreams, she felt like she knew the kid. But real life was, of course, vastly different. “It is too.” she laughed softly, she didn’t really mind. “I know you do and I’m proud of you for doing all of that. You’re a great sister, and while I’m busy and you’re busy, we’re still close and that’s all that matters. I’m just happy you’re succeeding.” she smiled warmly. She sat down and pulled a pair out to try herself. Not that she had anywhere to wear nice shoes but that was okay. “A bit. But that’s okay. I picked barn life. I love it.” Maggie grinned a bit. “Yes bring them up sometime. You know I have a couple dependable ones that anyone can get on and not get hurt. I really would love to get to know them better.” she quirked a small smile as she slipped her boots off and the sandals on. “Ugh. I’ll stick to my boots, I think.” "Alright. I'll bring it up the next time I see them." She smiled at her sister. "I'm glad we can all get along together. New Year's was pretty much the best." She picked up the pair of sandals that she'd decided on. "I mean, aside from my lack of fashionable footwear…" Her smile widened a little bit. "What do you say we get out of here and find something to eat?" |
