Maleficent hadn’t been able to sleep. With crime running rampant she’d been up to her neck in ensuring her interests were protected. A few times that had even been a personal intervention. Dare she admit it, she had even extended her ‘protection’ to the poor and even the homeless. What was she doing? She’d even asked Aurora to move in with her.
The Dark Fairy was having a crisis.
The sun was just starting to rise, peeking through the window of her condo. She was nude, standing there and looking out, her wings folded closely around her. She knew she was in love. She just hadn’t counted on it….changing her.
Aurora opened her eyes and sat up quickly. She spotted Maleficent standing at the window and smiled. She slipped out of bed and silently padded over to the faery. She slipped her arms around her waist and leaned her head against her back.
The Fairy’s wings twitched a little, then she leaned back against Aurora, sighing contentedly. “You’re up early. You should get back to bed, my beastie.”
“Mmm. Only if you come back with me.” Aurora nuzzled the spot where one wing met flesh on Maleficent’s back. “You woke me, didn’t you? From the curse.”
Stiffening, Maleficent turned in Aurora’s arms. When she was facing her, she stretched her wings out, then wrapped them around them both. “...I did. I hadn’t been trying. I thought you’d been lost forever. I have never regretted anything so much in my life, than what I did to you.”
Aurora gave her a gentle kiss on the lips. “And after, when...when Stefan caught you, I was so afraid I was going to lose you. But then I found your wings…” She reached up to gently stroke one. “And when they came back to you...I’d never seen anything so magnificent…” And the look Maleficent had given her...well, that was something, too.
"If I had not loved you already, I would have loved you then." Maleficent chuckled, closing her eyes as Aurora stroked her wings. "I remain so very grateful that you are of age here." Her feelings in the dreams remained conflicted and confused. She had kept stressing how maternal the bond was, as if she were trying to prove that for herself.
“I am very grateful for that as well,” Aurora said. “And I’m so glad Stefan failed to kill you.” She went quiet for a moment, still stroking a wing. “You looked so regal when you gave me my crown…”
Maleficent smiled fondly. “A crown you deserved, so much more than I did. I am...inclined to rule with fear and iron. You will be a much better Queen than I.”
Aurora blushed slightly. “It was a lovely day.” Though she wasn’t exactly sure why Philip had shown up. It hadn't really been his place to do so.
“Lovelier for your smile,” Maleficent pointed out. She lifted her hand, stroking her fingers along Aurora’s chin. Words caught on her tongue, but she got them out. “I love you.” She looked proud of herself.
Aurora beamed when those three words came out of Maleficent’s mouth. “And I love you,” she replied softly. She leaned up to kiss Maleficent, twining her arms around her neck.
“This is real, is it not? This is not some hallucination from the dreams. You are really here, and you make me feel like I want to be a good person.” It wasn’t so much a question as a statement. Maleficent lifted Aurora up. “It confuses me.”
Aurora giggled slightly at being lifted. “It’s real. I’m here. And we’ll work on the confusing bits together. Because we love each other.” She smiled. “I am so glad I have you.”
“Let us call in today,” Maleficent announced. Her assistant would have a cow, but she didn’t really care. She rarely took days off and she could work from home as easily as her office. There wasn’t much she could think of that she couldn’t complete after breakfast. “We still have to…” She swept around with a wing to indicate the condo. “Decorate. Together.”
“I think calling in is a wonderful idea.” Aurora was pretty sure she didn’t have a class that day, either. Or if she did, missing once wouldn’t hurt. She smiled brightly at the faery. “I definitely want to work on making the space ours. It’s lovely already, but we can make it even better.”
“What do you want to do with it? We can start in the bedroom, since we spend a lot of time here.” She winked. It wasn’t quite the #1 place for time, the main living room was, but she could make a flirty joke.
Aurora grinned and gave Maleficent a gentle, playful swat. “It’s a good idea, though. Better to start on something smaller instead of the dining room or living room. And I think...something to remind us of the Moors. The bedroom should certainly be our sanctuary, so that would feel right.”
“Trees and vines?” Maleficent suggested, hopefully. “Perhaps a bit like what I did for Christmas.”
Aurora nodded. "That would work wonderfully. Perhaps something that would form a canopy over the bed, as well, so it would be there when we looked up."
Maleficent’s smile turned into a grin. She regarded the bed, and then her hands started to glow green. Vines began to grow around the room, forming delicate patterns along the walls. Last was the canopy, sprinkled throughout with soft lights. “I can turn those off when we sleep, I think.”
Aurora smiled as Maleficent worked her magic. It was so beautiful to watch her work, and the results were so beautiful, too. She gave the faery a kiss on the cheek. “It’s perfect!”
“I am glad you think so.” She regarded Aurora thoughtfully, then looked at the room. “I wonder...” She looked at Aurora again, her eyes squinting and her expression curious.
Aurora raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
She tilted her head, and placed a hand on Aurora’s shoulder. “I wonder if you can learn magic.”
Aurora’s eyes went wide. “Do you think that could be possible?” What if it was? But how?
“You were always a special little beastie,” Maleficent replied. She lifted her hand to Aurora’s cheek. “I can teach nothing that you’ve no talent for.”
“I’d like to try, at least.” Aurora smiled, leaning into the touch. If she could do magic...that would be amazing.
“Mmm….” She dug her fingers into Aurora’s hair, then pulled her up for a kiss. “You could be very powerful, indeed.” And then another kiss. And a third.
Aurora melted into the kisses. She rested her hands just above Maleficent’s hips. Her fingers gently dug into the faery’s flesh as the kisses continued. Moving in together was definitely a good idea.
“Your first lesson.” Maleficent nuzzled at Aurora’s hair. “Find the deepest part of you. Let it flow through your veins, feel the tingle in your fingers.”
Closing her eyes, Aurora took a deep breath. She concentrated and focused, searching for what Maleficent said. Find it, let it flow...and she thought she might feel a tingling in her fingertips.
"Take that energy, my dear. And direct it." She guided Aurora's hands, pointing them towards one of the vites. "Envision what you wish it to be."
Aurora took a deep breath and envisioned the vine twisting into a knotwork-like heart shape.
Slowly, but inexorably, the vine twisted. It wasn’t quite a heart, but it did knot and was close enough to count. Maleficent stared in abject shock. She hadn’t actually expected that to work.
Aurora opened her eyes. She clapped a hand over her mouth in surprise. It had actually moved. She looked at Maleficent with wide eyes. “I...I did that?”
“Yes, beastie. You did.” She squeezed Aurora’s shoulders. “You just used magic.”
She wrapped her arms around Maleficent. “I really did it...I don’t quite know how...but it’s wonderful,” Aurora said.
“We will figure it out.” She lifted Aurora back into her arms. Shock gave way to elation. “You are going to work wonders!”
Aurora giggled happily at being lifted again. “With your help.”
“Mm. Shall we work some other magic before breakfast?” Maleficent nudged Aurora towards the bed, giving her a meaningful smile.
“I think we should definitely works some other magic before breakfast,” Aurora said, turning to back toward the bed and tug Maleficent along after her.
"You are just full of surprises, my beastie." Maleficent's voice was quiet, but filled with an odd sense of joy. Let the world go on for awhile, she was going to play hookie.
