"That's what I hope to instill in them." Because really, being forced to have to read certain things and focusing just on the grade was no way to learn. Especially when it came to literature. It was supposed to be fun, to take you away from it all and to live in another world. To experience things that maybe your normal life wouldn't give you a chance to. "That sounds brilliant. But it seems in secondary school here, they need someone to help them broaden horizons so if I can do that, I'll consider myself a good teacher."
That was all she wanted, really. To be a good teacher. To inspire her students. The fact hers were much more invested in the material was definitely a relief. They wanted to learn. They had the opportunity to go to a regular English class yet still chose the advanced ones.
The question on what she was teaching gave her pause just because the book she was about to have to teach hit too close to her heart at the moment, but she shrugged.
"Since I picked up in the middle of the school year, I have to follow the original teacher's plans. So The Things They Carried and The Book Thief. I hope to be able to tailor the books more next year though."
