The young brunette grabbed a cart as she walked into the grocery store. Setting her bag and shopping list so that they were right in front of her before she started towards the vegetables. As she got closer she wondered if she even needed a whole cart. She could’ve just got everything with a handled carriers to grab everything that she needed. Well, whatever. She approached the fruits and started to look them over as she fingered the shopping list that was in front of her. She needed something healthy to get rid of this taste for sugar. At least she went into the grocery store thinking that she would buy healthier. That had to get her some brownie points. Ooh, she should find some brownies to bring home. She reached to grab a bag of grapes. “Well, look at who the cat dragged in!” Verity said. She was pushing a cart with Christina sitting in the little seat at the handle. She beamed as she pushed her cart closer to her friend, then reached over for a big hug. Of course, she knew that River shopped here, but she wasn’t expecting to see her friend unexpectedly. The sound of a familiar voice caused River to raise her head and look around. It wasn’t a second before Verity and little Christina came into view. Oh my gosh! She set the bag of grapes into her cart just in time to receive a hug from her old roommate. “Or dragged out in this case,” she said with a laugh. “Small world huh?” This place wasn’t too far from her house so it was only of the only grocery store she shops at. She just didn’t know that Verity still shopped there. She thought the new place was a little further out where this grocery store would no longer be convenient. “Dragged out,” Verity repeated happily. She hugged River tightly, then released her so River could greet the squirming toddler in the cart. “Well, I know this shop. I haven’t been able to find the things I want at the supermarket close to where Roland lives.” Where she lived, too, but she was still referring to it as Roland’s place. Silly as that was. “That’s because this is the best grocery store there is,” she said in a matter of fact tone. It was like a better version of Walmart. It could have all those strange little foodies but still have the air of somewhere expensive. She loved it. Mostly because whenever she walked in it smelled like baking bread. “It really is.” Verity turned to walk with River down the aisle, and pulled out her shopping list. “We can shop together. I’ve got a few more things to get. How have you been?” It might have been the best but River would still go to the closest one. Maybe it was because she always put off grocery shopping. She was just lucky that she lived so close to clearly the best one as Verity put it. "I don't have much of a list," she said as she started to walk with Verity. It was clear that her eating habits went back to what they were before having a pregnant girl in the house. There was a change in her eating habits when there was a need for someone to be healthier in the household. "I've been good. Working. School. You know how it is." Verity nodded. “I do. Did you hear I’m working at the HaHacienda now?” She asked. She’d gotten the job from Jack Napier, and was enjoying working retail again. “And… well.” She paused for a moment as they stopped in the aisle with all the pasta. Her hand reached out to pick up the package that she wanted. Elbow macaroni. “...I think I want to talk to Roland about giving Christina a baby brother or sister.” River couldn't remember if she had heard about the new job or not. She didn't think so. It was nice to hear that Verity was happy with the job. She could just hear it in her friend's voice. Before she could say anything else a bomb was thrown into the conversation. "Ohmygod, really?!!" she said as she stopped walking. “Yes, really.” Verity said, blushing deeply. She stopped just after River did and turned to look at her friend. “I think it’s about time. If we start now… then Christina and her younger brother or sister will be about two years apart. That sounds about right, doesn’t it?” River didn't even know that Verity was thinking of having another kid. It was never mentioned but that was probably because Verity wasn't serious with anyone. It was clear that she was serious about Roland. Which River couldn't be happier about. It didn't mean that she didn't miss having the two girls as roommates. She had gotten so used to having them around. "It would be nice to have them so close together," she said with a smile. "Do you think you're ready for another?" “I think so.” Verity said with a nod. “I’ve got a support structure in place, with my brother and sister-in-law so close by. My parents were even talking about getting a second home down here so they can come visit more often.” Verity was obviously elated. Happy beyond words at the idea. “Let’s finish up shopping before our frozen foods melt,” Verity added, a bit sheepishly. “We can have a coffee date sometime soon and catch up.” As long as Verity was sure. As her friend River wanted Verity to have the life that would make her happy. It was clear that she had that. Even with another screaming baby in the cart. Not that Christine was screaming in the shopping cart. "Almost forgot," she said with a laugh as she looked down at her cart. It seemed like that news of a new baby distracted her more than she thought. She started to walk back down the aisle. “Most definitely, before Spring classes start,” she said as she looked back at Verity for a second before looking back in front of her. “Absolutely.” Verity stopped for a moment, and wrapped her arms around River for a big hug. “I miss hanging out every day.” She said, and then released her friend. They could go their separate paths, and hang out again soon. Very soon. It was weird bumping into Verity into the store. It was probably so weird because they hadn't seen each other as much as they used to. It was with the hug that she knew that she didn't want to go that long without seeing the two of them again. She smiled as the hug released. "Yeah, very soon," she replied. Another smile in Christine's direction before she took her cart and turn in the opposite direction. |
