Who: Justin Taylor and Billy Kaplan When: Christmas Eve Where: Justin’s parents house What: Christmas with the boyfriend Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Billy was glad that he and Justin had gone away for Christmas, it was disconcerting having Teddy read his mind and he hadn’t wanted to tell Justin. Hopefully by the time they got back home it would be over and Billy’s thoughts would be just his own again.
It was also good being away so he could simply focus on his boyfriend again, he’d felt so confused lately that he wanted some ‘them’ time even if it did come with the added pressure of the parents. Though luckily they all got along well.
It had been some time now since Halloween and since Teddy had basically accused him and Billy of lying to him about what had happened on Halloween and while Billy was still working for the actor, Justin didn’t know much about what had transpired since. He didn’t know whether Teddy had begun to dream and he didn’t want to ask Billy. He didn’t want Billy to think that he didn’t trust him or anything, because he did. He trusted that Billy would tell him anything he needed to know.
Christmas was a nice chance to get away from most things that were going on in Orange County, including the snow. It was strange that there was snow in Orange County, but not in Beverly Hills. He knew that, like everything else, he just shouldn’t question it. It would stop eventually and something else crazy would happen. For the time being, he was just happy to be spending the holiday with his family and Billy.
Justin had gone to get them each a glass of Egg Nog and was weaving his through a small group of family friends to get back to Billy. Christmas at their house had always been a pretty big event and Justin enjoyed the chaos. Reaching Billy, he handed him one of the glasses, “You doing alright?” This wasn’t the first time Billy had been around Justin’s family, but he knew that it could still be a little overwhelming.
Billy knew he should tell Justin more about Teddy and his dreaming but he didn’t want any upset or misunderstanding. He needed to sort out things in his own head before trying to explain everything especially since if he didn’t he was likely to put his foot in it somehow and say things wrong.
Taking a glass from his boyfriend he smiled and took Justin’s hand, “I’m good. This is nice” he added, because it was. Justin’s family was lovely and welcoming even if there were a lot of them.
Justin smiled and kissed his boyfriend on the cheek, “I’m glad you’re having a good time. And it’s not as overwhelming as last year when you were meeting most of these people for the first time.” He took a sip of his egg nog then gestured for Billy to move to another corner where they’d be a little less right in the way of one of the hallways leading to and from the kitchen, “Lets go over there.”
Billy chuckled as they moved, “I was much more nervous then” he remembered, “In fact I’m surprised I managed to get any words out at all” But it actually hadn’t lasted long, Justin’s mom was lovely and made Billy feel very welcome. It was nice to just relax and enjoy this time with his boyfriend.
"Well, you must have made a good first impression regardless," The day after Christmas Day, Justin had gotten a call from his mother telling him how much she's enjoyed meeting Billy and that he'd better not mess it up. She was only teasing about the last part, but Justin knew that she could tell how much Justin had cared for Billy even then, so early in their relationship. And now, a little over a year later, Justin hoped that they still looked as happy to his mother.
“I’m glad I did” Billy said, wrapping an arm around Justin and snuggled into his boyfriend. It was easier to forget everything when he was here and it was just them together.
Justin couldn’t help but smile as Billy leaned into him and he brought his free hand up to rub his boyfriend’s side lightly, “We should plan something this year. A trip or something,” Any excuse to get Billy away from Teddy was one that Justin thought was a good idea, not that Justin was going to tell Billy that. Then again, it also gave them time completely alone from anyone else, not just Teddy, “Any place you’d want to go?”
“A trip would be nice” Billy agreed, he had a feeling Justin’s reasons might be to do with Teddy but didn’t say anything. A holiday with his boyfriend sounded lovely. “Maybe a city neither of us has been before?” he suggested, “Somewhere to explore together”
They'd already been to Scotland for Zelda's wedding earlier in the year so there were many other places to choose from. "We'll have to do some googling to see what appeals to us." Part of Justin knew he was probably being irrational with his jealousy towards Teddy, but at the same time, he knew there was a very real chance that Billy's feelings could carry over from the dreams and with Billy spending so much time with Teddy, it was possible.
Before Billy had a chance to respond, Justin's younger sister Molly, happened to come across them and smirked, "You're standing up the mistletoe, you know."
Scotland had been wonderful and Billy had some lovely memories and pictures from it. It would be nice to go away again. As much as Billy wanted to assure him nothing would happen with Teddy, he had to admit to himself that some of the feelings were hard to ignore in the waking day thought he was trying.
When Molly appeared Billy grinned at her, “Oh” he said looking up, “So we are. What do you think we need to do Justin?” he teased.
Justin tipped his head back to look at the mistletoe above their heads and smirked as he looked back at Billy, "Well, I suppose there's only one thing to do." Without another word, he turned towards his sister and gave her a kiss on the cheek causing the teenager to laugh and shove him away, playfully.
"You're supposed to kiss him!" She said, smiling as she wiped her cheek and pointed at Billy. "You're such a weirdo sometimes."
Billy laughed as Molly pushed her brother away and back towards Billy, “Oh I see. That’s how it works” he said, with a wink at the younger girl before he pulled Justin to him and gave him a sweet swift kiss on the lips.
As Billy kissed him, Justin's hands came up to rest on the brunette's waist as he kissed him back. As they kissed, Justin heard his sister give a little clap and it made him laugh softly against Billy's mouth. He was incredibly grateful to have such a supportive family unlike in the dreams where it was mostly just his mother since Molly was much younger in the dreams than she was in real life.
Once the kiss was over, Justin turned towards his sister, still smiling, "Do we pass the mistletoe challenge?" nodding, Molly went off to find someone else to talk to.
Billy reached out and ruffled Molly’s hair before she wandered off. Smiling he looked at Justin, “I think that’s my favourite kiss under the mistletoe” he grinned, before tugging him in for another one.
