Haymitch was actually rather impressed with himself, he'd managed to pull off a surprise party for Effie. He'd arranged catering with the young woman currently looking after Baxter bakery, just small nibbles and pastries and he'd asked for Glinda's help in organising the drinks and decorations but she'd been more than happy to help.

He'd kept Effie away from the house while Glinda set up everything and his girlfriend hadn't known a thing until she'd walked through the door. Which had been the most important part.

[ooc: Haymitch has organised a little Christmas Eve party to cheer up Effie and had invited all her friends. So please feel free to start your own thread below]

Effie stepped through the doorway with some shopping bags. This had been the best Christmas ever. She hadn't posted anything about her lottery winnings on Valarnet. Actually, she hadn't even looked at Valarnet since she'd posted about her Dreams. She'd been Dream-free for a while, now. And a part of her was wondering if that was because she was staying away from the message board.

They were celebrating her lump payment of lottery winnings by going out and spending a bunch of it. There were even more bags in the car. Effie was just telling Haymitch that they could clean out the car later when she saw decorations, food, friends, and the big SURPRISE!

She nearly dropped her shopping bags.

"What??" And then a laugh escaped Effie. She was grinning brightly. She moved forward into the party to set down packages and bags and start hugging guests. "I had no idea! Thank you!"

	Glinda smiled at Effie as she arrived to the surprise party, "It was all thanks to Haymitch you know" she told her friend as she hugged her, "He wanted to do something nice for you to cheer you up for Christmas. Haymitch had loved Effie's delighted reaction to the surprise party and had loved seeing her relax and mingle with all her friends even more. He'd put her shopping bags away and had contented himself with watching her and making sure she had a good time.

He was just pulling out more soda from the fridge when she joined him in the kitchen, "Hey beautiful, having a good time?" he asked her moving to wrap his arms around her.

Effie wandered around the room, greeting everyone who'd come to the party. It was lovely. There were people, and music, and really good food. She came into the kitchen after doing a couple of laps and talking to everyone.

"Wonderful." Effie responded, grinning, and wrapped her arms around him for a hug and a kiss. "This is amazing. You're amazing. How'd you do all of this without me knowing?"

Katniss wasn't quite sure what to expect from a party thrown by Haymitch, but he was doing it for Effie so she imagined that he had done his very best. Being under age ad knowing Haymitch was sober here, she hadn't brought any alcohol, but she had brought some flowers for Effie. Her mom had said it was things to do. It wasn't a particularly big bouquet because she didn't have much money to spare but it was nice enough; yellow and pink blooms which had reminded her of Effie. Currently they were sat on the side, waiting for Effie to come over while Katniss loaded a plate up with some nibbles.
