Who: Myrcella and Irisa Where: Myrcella’s house What: News and an invitation When: Late Nov/Early December Rating: Low/None Status: Complete
Myrcella had to admit she was curious as to what news Irisa had to tell her, so she’d spent her time baking to give her something to take her mind off it. It had sounded like something important and serious, Myrcella just hoped everything was okay. She’d hate for anything awful to have happened to the girl she considered her best friend.
Irisa arrived at Myrcella’s house with her backpack slung over one shoulder as usual. She wasn’t looking forward to this. Having been living alone for so long without telling someone she regarded as the closest friend she’d ever had wasn’t going to go down well, she sensed. But now she was staying with Alucard and Integra, she wouldn’t be able to keep up the charade. Knocking on the front door, she waited for her friend to answer.
Answering the door Myrcella smiled and greeted her friend with a hug, “Hey” she said, “Come in, I made cupcakes if you’d like one” she offered as she ushered Irisa into the house. “I wasn’t sure if this was something which needed cake or not but I figured cake is always good right?”
“You made cake?” Irisa frowned as she allowed her friend to usher her into the house. “I guess this kind of news could do with being softened by cake,” she considered, more to herself than Myrcella. “I could do with a sweet thing to nibble on now you’ve mentioned it,” she gave a shy smile.
“Any kind of news would basically have me making a cake just in case” Myrcella admitted, “Baking helps distract me from worrying” she looked concerned for a moment before smiling brightly, “I was hoping you’d say that”
Irisa shrugged at that. “Baking, fighting, I suppose it all works to the same ends,” she decided. “What sort of cake is it? It smells amazing,” she complimented, waiting for Myrcella to lead the way.
“Everybody has their own ways” Myrcella agreed, “Thank you” she smiled as she moved towards the kitchen, “I made a chocolate fudge cake and then mini victoria sponges with raspberry jam”
"Oh wow...you really went to town!" Irisa said in amazement, her friend was incredibly gifted at this sort of thing. "Is this your way of saying I'm too skinny?" She asked, deadpan but teasing.
“Well, now that you mention it...” Myrcella teased back with a grin, “You know I enjoy baking. And it is nice to have someone who I know appreciates my cakes. Other than Jeremy”
Irisa raised her eyebrows at that but said nothing. There was a joke in there about Myrcella’s buns but Irisa wasn’t about to be the one that voiced it. Myrcella would be mortified for one. “Anyway, I needed to tell you something kind of...awkward,” she gave a one-shouldered shrug as she eased her way up onto one of the kitchen stools, dropping her bag on the floor by the chair.
If she had voiced it Myrcella would definitely have turned bright red and been extremely embarrassed though she would have been amused too, eventually. “Awkward? What is it? Has something happened?” she asked worriedly, turning from making the drinks.
"Well...kinda," Irisa shrugged and reached for a mini cake. "See...here's the thing," she cleared her throat and looked away anxiously. "I've. ..kind of been living on my own for the last few months coz Nolan went off to chase bad guys. Then Alucard found out and now I'm living with him and his girlfriend," she said in a rush. She winced and took a breath before risking a glance at her friend to see if she caught any of she'd just said.the words that had seemingly fallen out of her mouth.
Myrcella knew she probably looked like a fish with her mouth opening and closing for a moment but she was incredibly shocked by her friends revelation. “Alone?” she said, “You’ve been living alone for months and you never told me?” Myrcella was a mix of hurt and worried for Irisa.
Irisa shrugged uncomfortably and looked away from her friend out of the kitchen window. “I was fine on my own and I didn’t want to worry anyone else. I’m no-one’s responsibility by my own and I was handling myself,” she sighed heavily, playing with the mini-cake in her hands. “Then Alucard came round and found the house empty before I came back from school and he basically demanded I come and stay with him and Integra. Didn’t really leave me much option at all really,” she explained.
“Well good. I’m glad he didn’t. You silly stubborn woman. You may not be anybody’s responsibility but you have friends who care about you. And would like to know so they can help if they can. I mean I’ve been here on my own all this time and you could have moved in and kept me company. You might be alright on your own but not everybody is. It gets lonely” Myrcella told her, voice quieter.
“I...I’m sorry, I...I didn’t...I’m not used to thinking about anyone else,” Irisa turned her head to Myrcella in shock before frowning. “Why would you...why would you even want me to come live with you?” she asked, puzzled at the thought.
“Irisa you’re my best friend” Myrcella said, “Why would I not want you to live with me? I enjoy your company, you’re the most amazing friend I’ve ever had”
“Myrcella, you exaggerate,” Irisa shook her head, looking away again. “There’s nothing exceptional about me...apart from my ability to get into trouble as evidenced by this particular event,” she threw her hands up. “I’m no good Myrcella and you should stay away from me if you know what’s best for you. I only cause trouble,” she sighed.
“Nonsense” Myrcella said, coming round to hug her friend, “You are funny, loyal, sweet and kind. And what’s life without a little trouble, it’s more fun that way right?”
“I...I don’t know what to say,” Irisa looked at her friend in awe. “You’re crazy, you know that right?” she gave a little disbelieving laugh at Myrcella’s faith in her.
“Everybody is a little bit crazy” Myrcella replied, “So if I have to promise cake and speak to Alucard in order for you to move in with me I will you know”
“Oh I know and I do not doubt that you would win,” Irisa grinned at her. “You’ll have to come over and meet Alucard and Irisa. I’ll see when they’re free for dinner. Speaking of which, what are your plans for Christmas?” she asked, dropping her eyes and playing with cake again.
“I’d love to meet them” Myrcella grinned, “Umm I think I’m just at home with Jeremy coming over so I’d love you to be there if you can be” she smiled at her friend.
Irisa smiled to herself. “Well I currently have no plans. I don’t know if Alucard and Integra have any traditions or anything, so I’ll ask and see what they say. Do you do...presents?” she asked cautiously. She and Nolan had never really done Christmas. They’d tried a roast dinner once and it ended fairly disastrously so since then they’d stuck to take out on Christmas Day to avoid calling out the fire trucks again. They’d not really done presents either.
Myrcella nodded, “Sure. Just let me know” she said easily, she didn’t want to drag Irisa away if Alucard and Integra wished to spend Christmas with her. “Presents are a thing, they were pretty important in our house. But you know you don’t have to worry right? Having you come live with me would be a pretty amazing Christmas present”
Irisa smiled back at her friend. She really was incredible. “I’ll talk to Alucard,” she told her gently. Maybe the OC wasn’t as bad as she’d first thought.
