Elsa had been surprised when the weather had taken a turn for the worse and the snow had started. She was almost positive it wasn’t her fault this time and after a few days had decided that she would try and stop it. Sadly that had only worked to make it worse in the places she tried to help.
She ended up on Elphaba’s doorstep, wondering if her friend had any ideas about what she should try next or how to stop what she’d made worse. It was really rather frustrating to think that she couldn’t stop it.
Elphaba had brought Dior in from the garden when the snowstorm in her area had gotten worse. She’d just managed to divulge him of his snow gear and take her own coat, gloves and scarf off when there was a knock on the door. Quickly dropping her scarf over the back of a kitchen stool, she scooped up the boy, whose cheeks were still pink from the cold. Dior was still babbling at her about how he wanted to go back outside and play in the snow and she tried to distract him from it.
Answering the door, she found Elsa stood on her doorstep. “Is this you?” she asked with a little smile, stepping back from the door to let the other woman in.
“No” Elsa said initially, “Yes. Well kind of” she sighed heavily as she entered the house. “Originally no. But then I tried to make it stop and ended up making it worse” she admitted looking rather sorry for herself.
Elphaba put her hand on Elsa’s back and guided her into the house once she’d shut the door. With Dior on one side and Elsa on the other, she moved them all into the kitchen. She sat Elsa down and then offered Dior over to the other woman to hold. “How about I make us all some hot chocolate to warm us up?”
Elsa happily took Dior who was happy to go to her which always made Elsa feel good. “Hot chocolate sounds great, right?” she added to Dior who nodded as he lay his head on Elsa’s chest and watched Elphaba. “Thank you” she directed to her friend.
“You are most welcome,” Elphaba smiled at the pair of them sitting happily together. “So, tell me what exactly happened. The snow first started and that wasn’t you, right?” she asked, moving around the kitchen and preparing the drinks while she and Elsa talked.
“That’s right. It started and Kate, Anna and Hans checked it wasn’t me. I even got to the point where I though it might be too but it wasn’t. I started tracking it for work and then wondered if I could maybe make it stop. So I tried. And made it worse. You know the freak heavy snow storms? Those were me. And to make matters worse I can’t stop them either” she sighed smiling as Dior reached up to play with her hair.
"Ok, well so far it's just more of an inconvenience than anything, so don't panic," Elphaba replied calmly, frowning as she considered the problem. "You say you were tracking it for work. Is snow at this point in December unusual or do you think something else is driving this storm? Or someone?"
Elsa looked at Elphaba for a moment trying to work out if she was serious, “Well we’re in California which means it doesn’t really ever get properly cold let alone snow so yes it’s unusual. Something or someone is definitely causing it”
“Have you heard of anyone with similar powers to yours in the area? Anyone claimed this storm’s theirs on the Net?” Elphaba asked as she stirred the hot chocolates. “I’ve not been able to get online much with this one running around,” she turned with the hot chocolates in hand and smiled at the boy in Elsa’s arms. Moving over to join them at the kitchen table, she placed the cups in front of each of them.
She shook her head, "Nobody has claimed responsibility yet. And there's not been much online apart from people complaining or loving it in equal measures. She smiled her thanks as Elphaba set down the drinks.
Elphaba considered that for a second, wrapping her hands around her mug. “Well...the worsening of the storm doesn’t seem to have hurt anyone, maybe just inconvenienced people. So I don’t think you have anything to feel guilty about if you’re worrying about that,” she smiled knowingly.
“Thank you” Elsa said, “I had been worrying about that. But you’re right, it’s inconvenient but nobody has been hurt or in an accident. I just need to remember that. I have to admit I may be a little frustrated that there is possibly somebody out there with a gift similar to mine yet I can do nothing to help”
“Well that might be exciting, think of what you might be able to learn from each other,” Elphaba enthused as she looked at Dior on Elsa’s shoulder. “I keep wondering if this little guy’s going to inherit any of his mom’s abilities,” she said as she reached out to playfully tweak his cute little nose.
Elsa smiled and wished she had the same bright outlook on that as Elphaba did but she said nothing. Dior laughed and wrinkled his nose as Elphaba teased him, “Well if he does he has wonderful parents to help him with them”
"Well, I don't know about that," Elphaba laughed. "I did manage to set Lùthien's favourite tree on fire when I was starting out," she pointed out, settling back and taking a sip from her hot chocolate. "Are you feeling any better?" She asked afterwards.
“I created a snow monster my sister had to fight so I get mistakes when starting out” Elsa told her sipping her own drink. “I am, thank you Elphaba. You are a wonderful friend”
“A snow monster? Ok, so remind me never to get on your bad side,” Elphaba grinned. “You are most welcome and you’re more than welcome to stay here and play with us if you’re not busy?” she suggested. She loved spending time with Dior, but sometimes it was nice to have a little adult company too.
“It’s okay I have things under control now. Mostly” she added glancing out of the window. “I’d love to stay, thank you” Elsa said, a day with her friend and her son sounded perfect right then.
