Who: Billy and Clary
Where: Baxters
When Mid November after his first text
What Emergency boy help
Status: Complete
Rating: Low/None

Billy had to admit he was panicking and probably over nothing but it didn’t feel like nothing. It felt really rather big and confusing and he didn’t know how to fix it. His emergency text to Clary had been somewhat dramatic but she was a good friend and had agreed to meet him and calm him down.

He was sat in Baxter’s drinks for both of them in front of him and his fingers were tapping on the table. He’d had entirely too much caffeine and sugar already and it was adding to his antsy edge.

Clary pushed the door to the cafe open and looked around for Billy. She was worried about him, he hadn’t wanted to talk over text about what was bothering him which was fine, but he had sounded extremely worked up. Spotting him over by the window, she headed over.

“Hey there, you ok?” she asked, taking her bag off her shoulder and sliding into the booth with it.

“Hey, I’m alright I guess” he said, because there was nothing technically wrong. “Thanks for coming Clary, I just need to talk to someone and I can’t talk to Justin about this” he admitted.

Giving her a small wry smile, “How are you?” because he didn’t want to launch into his own problems without at least checking she was okay.

“Better than you I’d wager,” Clary smiled at him, wrapping her hands around the warm cup in front of her. “Thanks for the coffee, but enough of pleasantries, what about you? What’s got you so worked up?” she asked in concern as she looked him over worriedly.

“It’s the dreams. Remember how I told you about Teddy? My dream boyfriend” Or rather his soulmate he believed he’d said at the time. “Well he’s here. He’s a television star and I’m his new assistant”

“Uh...yeah, I think I remember you talking about him before,” Clary frowned. “He’s here? And you’re working for him? Well, does he...y’know, remember?” she asked, sitting forward.

“Not yet” he said with a sigh, “I’m not telling him either. I mean he’ll think I’m crazy for a start but what do I do when he does?”

“Well I...I guess you let him come to you when he’s started remembering,” Clary said. “Then explain to him why you didn’t say anything before. He might be freaked out once he has his first Dream, so I guess try and be his friend. He’s going to need someone he can trust to talk to,” she suggested. “How did you come to find him at work then? Didn’t you recognise his name as who you’d be assisting?”

Billy nodded, “He can always talk to me” he said before shaking his head as he looked at her, “He’s using Theodore instead of Teddy and a different surname. I’d never seen his work before, I somehow managed to miss it. It was a shock to say the least”

“I’ll bet,” Clary gave a little laugh. “How was your first meeting then? Did you stand there gaping like a fish? Or did you go with the stammering approach?” she asked with a little teasing grin as she took a sip of her coffee.

“A little bit of both” Billy admitted, “I called him Teddy and he assumed I was a fan. I didn’t correct him either really. I just...I like him Clary, like I like him like him”

Clary slowly put her coffee down as he said the last part. “You like him?” she asked slowly. “What about Justin?” she asked. She wasn’t judging by any means but the idea of not being with Jace was almost intolerable. Although she was beginning to think the Shadowhunter in her had something to do with the power of that feeling.

“That’s just it. I love Justin, I do. We’re good together and I can’t imagine not being with him. But Teddy is...Teddy. I know it’s just the dreams and I should ignore it, I will ignore it but...part of me likes it Clary. Likes being around him and just talking to him”

“You’ll ignore it? What if you can’t? What if you spend more time with him and you start to like it...more?” Clary asked. “Have you told Justin that Teddy’s here?”

“I don’t know. I kind of just want to bury my head in the sand about it all and tell myself it’ll be fine” he admitted, “I told him. He’s jealous of course, can’t really blame him I was the same when Brian showed up”

"Well you can't," Clary said. "You have to stay on top of this or else you could end up hurting both of them as well as yourself," she reminded him. "You can be friends with Teddy but you can't be more unless you're sure it's what you want and you've spoken to Justin. You're both my friends and I don't want to see either of you hurt," she told him with concern.

Billy nodded, “I know. You’re right. I do want to be Teddy’s friend, he’s nice and I think he needs one. And we were friends in the dreams before anything else. We can be just friends I know we can. I just...I spent so long convincing myself he wasn’t here and moving on with my life that seeing him was just a shock. I don’t want anybody to get hurt”

Clary reached across and put her hand on his. She sympathised with him greatly. It must be hell to feel like you were being pulled in two directions, your Dreams and your real life. “Sorry I wasn’t more help,” she winced slightly, not feeling like she’d helped him at all. “I just want you to be happy and sure of what you’re doing,” she smiled at him.

He turned his hand in hers and squeezed, “You are a great help Clary, I promise” Billy said, “Honestly, I just appreciate you listening to me and, you know, not being all judgey” because some people would have been upon listening to his dilemma.

“Being judgy doesn’t change how you feel, just makes you feel worse,” Clary shrugged and gave him a little smile. “But don’t keep this to yourself, if you need to talk to someone, then text me and we’ll have another emergency coffee,” she grinned at him.

“You are seriously the best friend I could ever have. I’m keeping you, just so you know” he informed her with a grin. Things weren’t sorted but he felt better thanks to Clary.
