It’s a pleasure to meet you, Belle

A little bit of fun could go a long way. Though Kate hadn’t really partied hard in months, she still knew how to do it, and poor Belle seemed like she’d never stepped outside a day in her life. The red-head thought that they should go lightly at first. Food, some dancing, and maybe a party. The advanced partying could come later. She drove by Belle’s in a sleek red convertible, then got out and walked up to the door. She’d picked out black slacks and a matching top, with subdued heels.
Belle had never actually been out clubbing before. Or to a bad for that, matter. So, when Kate told her that she was taking her out, while she was a bit nervous about what to expect, she was also excited. Very excited. She didn’t know what Kate had planned for the two of them, but she was okay with that. She’d just met her, but Kate didn’t seem like the type of person who’d take them someplace where Belle wouldn’t feel safe. At least, that’s what Belle believed. So, with all of that in mind, she settle on a nice but not too-fancy navy blue dress and red flats, hoping that it would suffice for an evening out. When Kate arrived, she opened the door and greeted her with a smile. “Hello!” She extended a hand. “I know we met over the network, but I feel like a formal introduction is also in order. It’s nice to meet you in person, Kate,” she said, her Australian accent coming through as she spoke.
Even if Kate was going to take her some place unsafe, her very presence would keep the girl safe. She exuded confidence, despite the paleness of her face or the dark eyeshadow she preferred. Or her red, red lips. (Kate always had a thing about red lip stick). But she was somewhat tall for a woman, and with her hands stuck in her pants she looked like she was picking Belle up for a date. Of course Elsa would kill her if she tried anything.
She shook Belle’s hand with a firm grip. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Belle. I like your outfit, it’s cute.”
Seeing as Belle had never been on an actual date before in her entire life, she didn’t get that impression at all. If anything, Kate just seemed like a nice woman who wanted to show her a good time. Since apparently, she didn’t get out much. And as much as she would say that books counted as an adventure, she craved human company. Mostly, she craved friends. And Kate could be a possible friend in a strange new place she was unfamiliar with.
Belle smiled as they shook hands, noting the firmness in Kate’s grip. “Thank you. You look very nice, too.” Her eyes glowed with excitement. “So, am I allowed to know what you have planned for us this evening, or is it a surprise?”
“It’s mostly a surprise, but if at any point you feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable you let me know, okay?” She smiled lightly. “We’re going to have fun.” She jerked her thumb over towards her car. “All set to go?”
Belle nodded. “I will. Let’s go.” She’d let Kate take the lead, and then follow her into the car. She was excited, and it was all she could do to keep it all in.
Kate opened the door for Belle, then walked around to get into the driver’s seat. The inside was pretty posh, about the kind of thing you’d expect the heiress to a multi-billion dollar company to have. It was still pretty warm and inviting, and the radio was tuned to the local alternative station.
“What kind of food have you never tried but always wanted to?”
Belle settled in her seat, buckling her seat belt as she pondered Kate’s question. There were a plethora of foods that she’d never tried but always wanted. Her nose scrunched up a bit, as she considered it for about a minute.
“I’ve never had Thai food before.”
"Thai. Good choice. I know this great place. It looks like a bit of a hole in the wall but it's probably some of the best food you can get in town, Thai or not." It was a bit pricey, actually, but when you paid for good food you paid for good food, and it wasn't like Kate needed to worry. She peeled off into traffic like she owned the roads.
“I will take your word for it,” Belle said with a smile. “I’ve always wanted to try Thai food, but we didn’t really have much in terms of it back where I’m from. Or Indian, which I’ve always wanted to try, but I’ve heard is rather spicy. So, Thai to start. I can work my way up to richer foods.” She gripped the seat a bit as Kate sped off, but otherwise didn’t outwardly show any signs of being uncomfortable. Actually, she found the speed somewhat exciting.
“I think you’ll like it. Do you like spicey things? If not I know what to warn you away from trying. It’s not as hot as Indian food.” She smirked. “Though curry is amazing.”
The car narrowly avoided a red light, and took a left turn sharply into a glitzy neighborhood. There were a lot of upper class business and restaurants, but she drove past all of those to find a little Thai place recessed in between two strip malls. “I’m salivating just smelling the food here.”
“I do, actually,” Belle said. “I don’t eat them often, but I like spicy foods. There was a place back in Australia not too far from home that served Mexican food that I really liked.”
Belle inhaled, taking in the small. “That...that smells really good.” As for the location, it didn’t really bother her, as she had Kate with her. Maybe she’d before more nervous if she’d been alone, but she wasn’t.
“Come on. You can order anything you want!” Kate waited for Belle to get out, before closing the door and setting the alarm. She gestured with her head towards the entrance, then led the other woman into the restaurant. It was bustling, but there was a free table and the waitress was really friendly.
“Welcome! What would you like?”
Belle was grinning was ear to ear as her and Kate walked into the restaurant. “I’m not sure what to try,” she said. “Do you have any suggestions?” She picked up the menu and started flipping through it.
She turned and smiled at the waitress. “Do you mind if we have a minute? I’ve never had Thai food...and you certainly have a lot of options to choose from.”
“Certainly.” She smiled at them, and hurried off to her next table.
Kate settled back and got comfy, picking up the menu to pour over it. “What kind of food do you usually go for? Maybe we can find something to make you feel comfortable. Unless you want to go crazy.”
Belle wrinkled her nose as she looked over the menu. “Something sweet, maybe? Do they have that here? I should maybe start small, to begin with.”
"Maybe try the Pad Thai. It's basically stir fry noodles. I like their shrimp version. I've never been able to make it myself but I'm terrible at cooking anyway so that's no real loss." Kate winked, and tapped the right picture on the menu. Tonight was going to be fun.
