Though Percy knew denying the truth or the possibilities was foolish, so was ignoring that there were facts missing. Assumptions never worked in court and they wouldn't work here. It seemed almost inevitable to her, but to Percy, it didn't. Just like he trusted and counted on the people he worked with here, he could trust the men of the League. Though he didn't know any of them as himself here in this world, he felt as if he did and he knew how strong of character they were.
"I fear you may not know the extent of the men and women I call friend," he commented. The majority of Percy's League was built after he had started to pull away from Marguerite, and while the earliest members were his closest friends, the League had expanded to include many more over the course of their exploits. "Making friends had always been one of my talents. As was costuming, it would seem. If I could have continued that farce of being Grappin underneath Chauvelin's nose all those weeks, you might not have been able to recognise the men in front of your face."
Realism was important to Percy, but so was keeping hope alive. Hope was the greatest force known to man; it could make even the weakest strong, it could make the most frail endure. Keeping that alive was the key to their missions, was what pulled people into the League. His death wouldn't change the spread of that, because a spark would turn to flame and no one would be able to put that fire out.
When Marguerite spoke again, her voice seemed sullen again, as if she was waiting for some barrage from him. Their dreams made this very complicated, certainly, and while Percy felt a lot of emotional transference from these dreams, he did his best to attempt to temper some of the heavier feelings, those of betrayal. "What is your answer then, forget the question itself." Percy had an inkling as to what she expected him to ask, questions about her betrayal. Unlike in the dreams, Percy would let her share her side of the story; it was only fair that he hear it, regardless of how it unfolds.
