Veronica was alone in the apartment, which didn’t happen often. The blonde spent most of her time at work and by the time she got back Sharon was there. Of course she went out with Remy, but most of the time Veronica would find somewhere else to go just in case the two of them wanted to end up back at the apartment. She didn’t need to be there for that.
She was relaxing on the couch. Or well as relaxed as Veronica got, beer on the coffee table while she sat back and went over some briefs when there was a knock on the door. She wasn’t expecting anyone. Sharon hadn’t mentioned anyone coming over either. She had no idea who it was.
Sighing she set her papers down on the coffee table, getting up from the couch and making her way to the door. She didn’t even try to hide the frown on her face when she opened it. “Sharon’s not here” she told the guy, who she was pretty sure was Sharon’s boyfriend. Or whatever the hell it was he called himself.
Well, he certainly didn’t call himself Sharon’s Boyfriend. And he would certainly be unexpected-- but so would Veronica. Remy had jumped off a plane not half an hour ago and had sent out a message across the net from his car at a stoplight. His only actual stop had been to pick up a gift for Sharon and Pete on his way over-- and he was holding a Mastiff-sized gourmet dog treat for the dog, and a small jewelry box for Sharon.
He looked just a little surprised to see someone there not Sharon-- well, he was glad he hadn’t climbed in through her window!-- but then he broke into a smile. “You must be Veronica.” Well, he was certainly handsome and well dressed, she had to give him that.
“Can I leave these for her?” At the sound of his voice, the little dog would be hopping slowly from his bed and limping eagerly over to the door, his tail wagging excitedly. And when Remy didn’t come inside in a prompt fashion? Well, Pete went right out to greet him.
It wasn’t any surprise that the suited man would bend and scoop the dog up to kiss his muzzle and give him a gentle squeeze. He made no motion to put Pete back down. “Lookit what I got for you, Pete-- isn’t it awesome? It’s almost as big as you are.” Only the best.
Veronica raised an eyebrow, watching as Pete came out to greet Remy. The dog seemed to like him, but that didn’t say much. It didn’t prove that Remy was actually worthy of her best friend.
“And you must be Remy” she finally replied, her eyes falling on the jewelry box in his hand. “What? I don’t get a present?” she quipped stepping aside to let him in. “Go ahead and leave it here. You might as well give Pete his treat now” she added since he had already pointed it out to the dog.
“Um..” He’d consider when she asked for a present, then broke into a smile. “I got you this awesome old dog. He’s slow, but he’s a great kisser.” Hah, yeah right. But Pete was nuzzling right up and Remy was giving him another kiss on the snout. “Sorry, buddy, looks like you’ve been sold to the highest bidder. You had a good run.” Another kiss-- he loved that damn dog. He’d never had a pet. Go figure.
“Thanks.” He’d remark as she allowed him inside, coming through the door and moving right to Pete’s bed -- but the little dog wasn’t quite ready to go down, so the Cajun would be turning to face Veronica with a smile, still holding all three ‘gifts’. Surprisingly, he looked right at home here, like a husband having come home. Remy definitely looked the part of a loving spouse.. he just wouldn’t be any good at it.
Or, so he claimed. And he was rarely wrong.
“You haven’t kicked me in the nuts yet. I’d have to say this meet and greet is going pretty well.” Joked to her with a little wave of the dog treat.
Yes it was clear that Remy loved Pete. Still didn’t change her opinion of the guy. She wasn’t fond of how at home he looked in the apartment either. He may look the part of the loving spouse but Veronica wasn’t buying it.
“Nice try” she replied with an amused smirk. “But Pete doesn’t count. Besides I think he would be much happier with you anyways. I wouldn’t want to break up the love fest.”
The blonde made her way over to the couch that was doubling as her bed for the time being, until her Sharon moved into their new apartment next week. She didn’t bother to offer Remy a drink. There was no need for her to make him feel welcome. She could care less if he did or not.
“Not yet.” She replied sitting down on the couch. “Well go ahead and put your gifts down. Unless you want to continue standing there with your hands full.”
“I can’t help that we have a love connection.” He’d remark of the affection that he and Pete clearly shared for one another. “Don’t be jealous.” He’d slip the small box into his pocket, but the dog and treat would stay in his arms.
“I’m a little worried about the nut-kicking now. I think I’ll keep Pete and his bone. Insurance.” So she wouldn’t kick him. “So how did you two meet again? College?” Tell him all about it, Ron.
Don’t skimp on the lesbian experiences.
Jealous was not the word Veronica would use to describe how she felt. More like annoyed. “Or you could just not be a dick, then yours won’t get kicked” she suggested the smirk back on her face. She knew Sharon cared for this guy, so Veronica was on her best behavior. Well as good as her behavior got with a guy she didn’t trust. She did have to look out for Sharon still. That wasn’t about to change.
“Yeah college. Saw an add on campus about a girl needing a roommate. I’ll give you a guess as to who that was” if he couldn’t figure out who that was, he was even more stupid than she thought. She already thought he was an idiot for having so many issues committing to her best friend. Any guy would be more than lucky to have Sharon.
Stupid? Sure, maybe. But this stupid man was getting his Doctorate in December, and he owned and ran a billion dollar corporation, and he had enough charities and gave away enough money each year that he practically negated his taxes altogether. But yes, he was stupid in more than one area.
Relationships was one of them.
“How am I being a dick?” He really wanted to know.
No, really. What was he doing that made him a dick?
At the moment? Nothing. But she had heard more than enough to have a low opinion of him. Not to mention the first time she had talked to him on the net.
“if you were being one right now I would have already kicked you” she shrugged, but if he really wanted to know. “How about you don’t hit on every woman you meet? You are in a relationship now” at least from what she understood.
“I don’t hit on every woman..” He would defend with a smile. “Some aren’t my type.” You know, fat ones, ugly ones, underaged ones. Even Dawn was old enough to flirt with now. Wasn’t she? He better check on that.
“I know I am.” In a relationship, that was. “You don’t have to rub it in.”
“How reassuring” the sarcasm in her tone was obvious. “You shouldn’t really be hitting on anyone” at least that was how she viewed relationships. It was disrespectful to the person you’re with. “That’s not something you really rub in. You should be happy about it.”
Sharon had been out at the store. The soreness and exhaustion that she'd been feeling lately made her need energy drinks and ibuprofin. Stat. Though, even with them she was still falling asleep at her desk. And on the sofa. Veronica had come home from work a couple of times to find Sharon taking a late afternoon nap on the sofa with Pete. (He was not only an excellent kisser, but also a wonderful cuddler as well.)
So she had a bag of groceries (medicine, Red Bull, and some random junk food that just looked irresistible) in hand as she unlocked the front door and let herself in. "Veronica! I'm home!" She called out, heading straight into the kitchen without even noticing the man holding the dog in her living room.
Remy, standing there holding the cutest dog in existence, with his giant treat and the jewelry box stashed away in his pocket, would turn when he heard her voice and get this little grin on his face. Like a school boy who’d just had his crush walk in. He’d lift slightly onto his toes in an almost excited manner.
He’d stay quiet, though, considering only for a second that he should set Pete down.. but the dog wasn’t struggling to hop down and see his mom, so Remy would keep him right where he was. If Sharon wanted to see Pete, she’d have to come to her boyfriend to do it.
Boyfriend. He was a boyfriend. The term still weirded him out a bit.
“We have company” Veronica replied from the couch. Remy was still standing in the middle of the room with Pete. Veronica did notice the smile on his face when Sharon entered the apartment. He got a few points for that, but it wasn’t enough to make her actually trust him.
“Your boyfriend decided to stop by” she added. “With presents. Although he didn’t bring me anything.”
"Oh?" Sharon turned to lean out of the doorway of the kitchen, looking through into the living room with a curious expression. And then a smile broke out across her face, too. It might not have been as ridiculous or as sappy, or as school boy? But it was there. She was tired, but she was smiling.
"Hey." She set the bag down on the counter, and came out into the living room to greet her dog. Oh, and her boyfriend. She tapped a tiny kiss against his lips. "Presents?"
Boyfriend-- she’d called him Sharon’s boyfriend. The verbalizing of their relationship actually had his cheeks darkening.
Just slightly.
He’d return that quick kiss and nod once. “I found this scruffy looking thing outside, thought you might like it.” Pete, of course. “He came with a free giant sprinkle-covered bone treat.” The one in his hand, indicated with a little shake. “So I figured I’d bring them both inside.” Playful-- he always was. Remy LeBeau had serious issues with being.. well.. serious.
Veronica watched the exchange between Remy and Sharon. Suddenly feeling out of place. They really needed their own place where Veronica could finally feel at home, and have a room to retreat too when Remy came over.
“Hah, very funny” she replied the sarcasm back in her voice. Although she did notice the fact that both of their cheeks had reddened. It was kind of sweet.
“Well I should leave you two lovebirds alone” Veronica replied getting up off the couch. She could go back to the office. Or see if Tom was busy. Maybe head to a bar. Just anywhere but in the middle of this love fest.
“Don’t go, I’m not staying-- not for long. I promise.” He’d flash her a smile and a wink, then he was taking hold of Sharon’s hand and hauling her towards her bedroom. He had a present to give her, after all!
Pete would come along for the ride. Remy was unhealthily attached to the little pooch.
"Sorry," Sharon said over her shoulder toward where Veronica was sitting on the sofa. "We'll be in my bedroom. You don't have to go anywhere." Sharon headed with Remy down the short hallway to her bedroom. "Don't wait up!"
Veronica wasn’t sure she wanted to stay around for whatever was to follow. Although she did know that they weren’t sleeping together, she didn’t want to be around in case it was the night they decided to change that. “See you later” she called back to her friend who was already disappearing into the bedroom before she headed out the door herself. She would go pick up some dinner and then head back or something.
