Anna met up with Myrcella at the little boutique. She only had an hour between classes for lunch, and she had to get this taken care of, too. She needed a dress that would impress Hans’ parents at her birthday dinner. And she was terrified about making a bad impression. She didn’t want to dress too sexy or too boring, too casual or too formal! She had no idea what the midground would be.
So Myrcella was a gem, and agreed to help her figure things out. They met outside the shop, Anna flinging herself into her friend’s arms for a huge greeting hug. “Thank you thank you thank you thank you!” She grinned. “I don’t know what I’d do without your help.”
Myrcella smiled as she found herself with an armful of Anna and she laughed, “You’re welcome. You know I’ll always help, especially when there’s shopping involved” she grinned,
As soon as Anna had sent the text she’d offered her assistance in finding an outfit, while she hadn’t met Jeremy’s parents since they’d sadly died but she did have experience of attending events that her mother wished her to make a good impression at. “Right, come on then. Let’s make the most of this hour”
“Good.” Anna beamed. “Okay. Let’s go.” She held the door open for her friend as they headed into the shop. “So… I think I look good in pink or green or… maybe black?” Anna said, though she’d absolutely defer to her friend’s expertise. She really wasn’t the best when it came to this sort of thing.
“Green is a good color, let’s focus our search on that then if we have no luck we’ll switch” Myrcella said, “Something not too low cut as well but that shows off your natural cuteness” she started looking and pulling things from racks as she spoke.
“I do like green.” Anna said, and gave a nod. She didn’t have all that much in the chestal area to show off, anyway. Not that Hans ever complained. Actually, he didn’t mention her body much. Which was probably good? It’d be weird if he went around talking about her breasts, or something.
Anna turned to wander the racks nearby, and found a couple of cute, green dresses, but wasn’t too sure about them. One was too short and the other had … no back? God, fashion was so weird. But she took them in her size and went to the dressing room with Myrcella once she found some. “I’ll try these on?”
Myrcella nodded, “Yes, try them on and we’ll see which ones work best” she agreed, taking out her phone, “I’ll take pictures of each so we can check back later in case we hit on a few good ones”
Anna beamed. She nodded, then headed into the dressing room and tried on the first dress in the stack. It was the one with no back. Weird. Her bra was showing as she came out to show Myrcella. She had a frown on her face.
Myrcella looked up as Anna emerged in the first dress and couldn’t help a little laugh escaping, “Oh, no bra with that one Anna. But I get the feeling you aren’t entirely comfortable in it anyway” she added, moving to stand Anna so she could take a photograph.
“Definitely not. How am I supposed to go without a bra??” She shook her head, then Anna posed for the photo, making a silly face. She hurried off back into the changing room and came out a minute later in another dress. And another. And another. Pretty soon they had pictures of Anna wearing about a dozen dresses on Myrcella’s phone, and they could switch between them all, decide from there.
“This is the best idea ever,” Anna said, once she’d changed back into her regular clothes. She motioned to the phone. “I mean, now I don’t have to change into and out of all these dresses again to make my choice.”
Myrcella laughed, “You’re perky enough” she teased with a giggle, glad they were the only ones in the changing rooms, “And if you need help there’s tape” she informed her friend. Shaking her head as Anna went to change.
“Thanks” Myrcella said as they were flicking through, “I’ve always found it easier than changing all the time, and I think these work better than a mirror too. So I really like this one, what about you?”
Anna nodded. “That one’s my favorite, really. Does it look the best?” She asked, sounding quite a bit nervous. She wanted to look good for this dinner. Her birthday dinner. It was so important to her. “Should I try it on again?”
“It looks amazing, very classy yet cute too” Myrcella nodded, “Go try it on again, make sure it feels as good as it looks for you”
“Okay.” Anna broke into a bright grin. “Be right back.” She headed into the dressing room and pulled on the green and black dress again, then came out once more. “It’s not too short, is it?” She asked, giving a little twirl.
“Not at all, it’s lovely” Myrcella smiled, “With the right bag and black ankle boots it’s going to look perfect. Natural make-up remember? Like we went through and however you want your hair, it’s gorgeous”
“Yes, natural make-up.” Anna remembered her lesson about make-up. And she had a pair of black boots. “Maybe we’ll have to find a bag, too.” She turned around to look at herself in the mirror. “Let’s get this, and go to the purse shop.”
Myrcella was proud, Anna had really listen to her lessons and taken everything on board. It was kind of sweet to see. “Okay” Myrcella nodded, “Take that off and we’ll go find the perfect accompanying bag”
Anna wasn’t sure what she’d do without Myrcella. She had Buffy and Caroline at school--they made her feel safe and welcome on campus when she didn’t always feel that way. She had Hans at work, and he made her feel loved and made her laugh. But Myrcella helped Anna to feel like a grown-up. Pretty, and mature. Things she didn’t always feel. And Anna hoped that she made Myrcella feel good, too--she wanted all of her friendships to be two-way streets.
She popped back into the changing room to take the dress off, and she made a mental note that she had to buy Myrcella a coffee before she had to head in to work.
