It had been an interesting situation, waking up with a complete stranger. And not one she would particularly like to repeat anytime soon. After trying to leave they had both realised they were stuck by some unknown force, which Sam found fascinating and after a little research online had discovered it wasn’t only them.
Luckily it had been a Thursday and Elijah had been able to talk to his work about taking a few days off. Sadly Sam hadn’t been able to do the same so he’d had to join her in her classes and listen to her waffle on in her physics and astrophysics lectures. But it was now the weekend which basically meant Sam was lesson planning while Elijah was working on his own stuff as they both sat in her living room.
As Elijah raised his head from his reading he had to blink his eyes a few times. It felt like he was surfacing after a long dive or waking up from a dream or something equally as disorienting. He’d been sat there reading for so long in the same position that when he did finally take a break and look up, he felt rather out of place. What time was it? When did it get to be lunch time? Had he been this hungry for a while now and he was only just noticing?
He cleared his throat, hoping to both regain a voice and catch her attention at the same time. “I find myself rather starved. You wouldn’t happen to be hungry as well, would you?”
Sam looked up and was surprised by the time herself, her stomach rumbled and she laughed, “Apparently I am,” she grinned, “I think I have the makings of some sandwiches here unless you feel like getting out for a bit?” she suggested.
“I’m not averse to going out for dinner,” he told her with a smile. “Anything you feel a craving for in particular?” Elijah stood, stretching a bit, his back popping from sitting in the same position for so long. He yawned a little too, running a hand over his five o’clock shadow.
“There’s a nice chinese restaurant not too far from here” she told him as she began packing up her things, “If that’s good with you?”
“I do enjoy some good Chinese food now and again,” he told her with a bit of a grin. “Shall we, then?”
“Great” she said, standing, “Let’s go. It’ll do us good to get out and about a bit. Just don’t let me spout science at you” she told him with a smile, Sam tended to do that when she was nervous or unsure what to say.
"I wouldn't mind too much, I may just spout legal ease back at you." He teased with a grin. Elijah, though seemingly intimidating, was really pretty easy going and simple to get along with.
Luckily Sam was too so it had worked out well for the both of them. She grabbed her coat and purse and let them out of her apartment. “So did you always have an interest in the law?” she asked him curiously, they hadn’t really asked each other all that many questions.
“I-- wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. Make the bad people pay for the things they’d done to innocents. So I suppose in a way, yes.” he nodded as they walked.
“That’s a very selfless thing to want” Sam said, “I’ve always been more focused on the world we don’t know than the world we do. Head in the clouds my mom used to say”
“There’s nothing wrong with that. Someone has to think of those things as well. How else are we supposed to understand the world we live in?” he asked as they made their way along, together.
Sam nodded, “I guess as long as there’s a good combination of both kinds of people - those like you and me - the world is covered from both angles” she grinned.
