Kate Bishop was not a shopper. She did what she had to do to get by--keep her cupboards full, keep her closet full, keep her dishes and clothes clean, et cetera--but she wouldn’t say that she enjoyed shopping. But by any extent of the imagination. Actually, shopping was irritating. Having to choose between the different brands of things, reading labels, all that junk. She wished she could just hire someone to do all of this for her. Like back in New York.
Of course, she wasn’t in New York anymore. She was learning to stand on her own two feet. So here she was, in the supermarket, trying to figure out which was the better peanut butter.
“I’d go with that one” Will said to the girl who he’d noticed was staring at the peanut butter, “20 cents more but it’s worth it” he assured her, “That’s a Will promise” he added with a wink before grabbing a jar off the shelf and popping it into the basket.
He’d drawn the short straw and been sent for supplies which was how he found himself in the supermarket giving peanut butter advice to random girls. His life was odd but he enjoyed it.
Kate turned to face the man who’d spoken to her. She raised an eyebrow, a little, amused smirk crossing her features. “A Will promise, is it?” She set the other peanut butter back on the shelf when she saw him grab one. “Does a Will promise come with a money-back guarantee?”
“It absolutely does” Will replied with a grin, “Never let it be said that Will didn’t satisfy every need” he added with his usually flirty tone. He really was quite ridiculous, but harmless and fun too.
“Oh, goodness.” Kate said, unable to stop a little laugh from her voice. “That’s what I like to hear.” She grinned. “So.. where’s this Will? I’ll have to get his promise in writing. Legally binding.”
“Of course, of course” he said with a smirk, “May I present the incredibly talented, amazingly handsome Will Herondale” Will then moved a step to the right and bowed, “Too kind, too kind. Pleasure to meet you” he said holding out his hand to Kate.
Another laugh escaped her. Kate shook her head a bit, grinning brightly. This guy was amusing. She reached a hand forward and shook his. “Hello, Will Herondale. I’m Kate Bishop.”
“It’s nice to meet you Kate Bishop, and give you sound advice on peanut butter” he added with a smile, “Any other products I can help you with, just let me know. My knowledge knows no bounds”
“I shall keep that in mind, Mister Herondale.” Kate beamed. “Do you have any magic intel on fabric softener?” She added, turning to walk with him down the aisle. She was almost finished with her shopping trip, and honestly wasn’t even sure what fabric softener was, but it seemed like something she should have.
“Ah fabric softener” he nodded sagely as they walked, “That is the work of pixies who are actually the only people who truly know what it does. I’ll let you in on a secret” he added softly, “I think it actually does nothing except smell nice”
Kate grinned. “I thought I could see some sense in you.” She added, moving with him through the aisle and into the next one. “So… is it really necessary? I mean, I smell pretty good as-is.”
“There’s a lot of sense to see in me” Will said, a lot of nonsense too but that was just fun. “Personally I don’t think it is, not if your washing powder is decent”
“Ah, yes. Well, good thing you’re hanging around, because laundry detergent is the next thing on my list.” She said, turning to the soap aisle. “And since you had such good advice about peanut butter…” She waved her hand at the plethora of laundry soap the store had available. “Thoughts?”
“I would never abandon a lady in need” Will informed her before looking at the shelves, “Okay, so these three are the best” Will advised pointing them out, “But I think this one...” he picked it up, “will suit you most. Leaves things smelling fresh and earthy none of those pansy flowery smells”
“Oh, good.” Kate accepted the laundry detergent from him, grinning softly. “Those silly pansy flowery smells would clash with my natural awesome smell.” Of course, after a few fencing lessons Kate didn’t actually smell so hot. But having all those perfumes and shit on her clothes gave her a headache. “That was the last thing on my list.”
“See I thought you would, as soon as I saw you I could tell” he grinned, “Ah then I think my duty as guide to everything is sadly all finished” he said with a tinge of sadness with a little pout.
Kate gave a little laugh. “That’s because my awesome smell permeates.” She made a funny face, then laughed again and shrugged her shoulders. “I reek of awesome.” When he pouted, she grinned a bit brighter. “Well, thank you for your help. Not sure I could have done it without you, Will Herondale.”
“It’s true. I do as well so maybe like attracted like” Will told her with a grin, then he held out his hand to her, “An absolute pleasure to meet you Kate Bishop, I do hope it isn’t the last time”
Kate reached forward to shake his hand. “I do, too. And thanks again for your help. Not sure I could have made it without you.”
“Well that’s what I’m here for. Saving damsels in distress in supermarkets, it’s a specialty”
