It had been weeks now since the whole sleeping/nightmare incident had occurred, but Cass was still worried about Laura. Hell, ever since her best friend had been kidnapped a few months earlier, she’d been worried about her. Despite everything, she was optimistic that there was something that could be done to help her, but in order for that to happen, Laura had to be willing to try and Cass knew how scared she was that she was going to hurt someone. All Cass could really do for the moment was be there for Laura and stay optimistic.
Today, Cass was sitting in a coffee shop after her trip to the gym, sipping a coffee as she scanned various things on her cell phone.
Walking into the coffee shop with a small paperback book and a small clutch purse, Lissa breathed in the aroma of the shop with praise. Joining the line she waited to place her order, she had decided to treat herself to an break from her school work and had grabbed her ‘go to’ book and set out to the nearest coffee shop so as not to be in the same apartment as her school work, it would only make her feel guilty.
After paying and gathering her food she started glancing around for a seat and grinned at her luck as a big comfy armchair in the corner opened up. In a rather rushed motion she headed towards it, in her haste she accidentally bumped into a chair, looking down very shocked and apologetically she gushed out, “Oh! I’m so sorry!”
Cass was so invested in an email she’d received that she hadn’t noticed the blond girl walking towards her until she’d bumped into her seat, almost causing Cass to drop the drink that was in her other hand. Luckly she had exceptional reflexes and she managed to hold onto it as she turned to look up at the girl, “Oh, it’s alright. Are you alright?” She checked quickly to make sure that she hadn’t had her chair sticking out or anything.
With her hands full, Lissa awkwards rubbed her hip bone with her elbow, “Oh, I’m fine.” Glancing down she smiled apologetically to her victim, “Again, I am so very sorry! I was trying to get to that chair-” She indicated to the empty chair closeby. Looking towards the girl’s table she looked for spills, “Did I spill your drink?”
“It’s okay, really. It happens.” Cass said, dark eyes dropping down to the items in the blond girl’s hand, “Do you need a hand?” As she offered, someone else sat down at the table that Lissa had been heading towards when she’d bumped into Cass’ chair.
Lissa adjusted the contents in her hands and tightened her grip on her drink before she noticed her chair being taken, her shoulders sagged a little in response but that was the only sign of disappointment she gave. Giving her attention back to the stranger she smiled thankfully, “I’m ok thanks, and I’m sorry again for disturbing you!”
“No, it’s totally okay. There was no harm done.” She glanced over in the direction that the girl had been heading and noticed the person just sitting down, “Let me guess, you were headed over there, right?” She glanced back up at the blond then took a quick look around to see if there was another empty table. It was just about lunch time, so she wasn’t surprised to see that there were no other empty tables, “So, I don’t really do this, but, you wanna sit here?” She gestured towards the empty seat across from her. She didn’t know why she was doing it, but she felt bad for the other girl.
Lissa observed the surrounding cafe and sighed inwardly, there were absolutely no other seats, then the girl’s statement registered in her mind. The fact that the girl really didn’t want to offer wasn’t surprising, after all she did just get bombarded. Trying to plaster a friendly look on her face Lissa replied, “It’s alright, I really don’t want to impose more than I have…” She then surveyed the cafe again, judging if anyone was about to vacate their seat.
“It’s really not a problem.” It wasn’t that Cass hadn’t wanted to offer, but that she didn’t usually do stuff like this, but she hoped that someone would do something like that for her sometime, if she were in a bind, “You need a seat and I have an extra one.” As she spoke, she realized that one reason the girl might not want to take her up on her offer was because they were still currently strangers, “Oh, I’m Cass. Cass Cain.” She would have extended a hand to the blond if the blond’s hands weren’t currently full.
Hesitantly taking the chair across from Cass, Lissa offered a friendly smile,”Thank you and my name is Lissa Dragomir.” Setting her book down she cupped her hands around her coffee and asked, “Is Cass short for something?”
“That’s a pretty cool last name,” Cass said as the blond sat down across from her, “Yeah, my full name is Cassandra, but it can be a mouthful sometimes so I usually just use Cass.” She waited a moment to see if the girl recognized her name or not. To be honest, Cass was happy when people didn’t recognize her, because it meant she could just be herself. Not that she minded when she was recognized.
Lissa grinned, “Thanks, I love how different it is.” She had always loved how old world sounding her family name was, very girly of her, but she tended not to over think such things. Lissa did not recognize the girl’s name whatsoever, her blank smile was very telling as she added, “Cass is definitely easier!”
“Yeah, but Cain is so common. I like my first name though,” Cass shrugged a little, almost glad that the other girl didn’t seem to recognize her. She could have a conversation without being asked about gymnastics or the Olympics, “Is it an old name? Sounds like it should come from a time with jousting and sword fights.”
“Sometimes common can be a good thing.” Lissa offered and could only agree with the girl, “I definitely like your first name much more than my own!” Taking a small sip of her drink Lissa then started to nod her head in agreement, “Yes, Dragomir is extremely old name, my father and mother are obsessed with ancestry and tracing our heritage.”
“That’s pretty cool. If you ever became famous, you already have a great name for it.” Cass smirked and finished off her coffee. Cass was glad that this wasn’t awkward, considering Cass didn’t usually invite strangers to join her when she was out somewhere. “And if you ever get married, you should make your husband take your last name.”
Famous? Husband? Lissa chuckled, those were two things that never came to her mind! "I would be very reluctant to let go of my last name." Lissa replied honestly, she looked down at her book and then glanced around, finally a chair opened up. "Well Cass, I want to apologize and thank you again, but I really should leave you be. It was really nice meeting you, if you want another cup of coffee it's on me, just say the word!"
Cass followed Lissa's gaze towards the now empty chair and the brunette nodded, "No problem. I didn't think it was right to make you stand around waiting for a table to open up when I had a seat right here." She smiled at the other girl and nodded, "It was really nice to meet you too. I'll keep that in mind next time we run in to each other."
"It was nice meeting you too Cass." Lissa offered a genuine smile as she rose and gather her things from the table, it was nice to converse with someone new. "Have a good day!" She added before giving a little salute with her coffee.
