Because Peter was right. If Derek hadn't said much, then there was no word for word involved, but Cora wasn't an idiot. She could see the writing on the walls once she stopped trying to deny it. She wasn't in denial about her uncle. She knew him, she knew he would fight against the Dreams, that he would make his own choices here. But Derek? That was something else entirely, and it hurt. Because how could she know now if he would have her back? Especially if it ever came between her and Stiles? He was already trying to tell her and Lydia to give him a chance, that he was a good guy despite it all, but all that it sounded like to her was that he would back Stiles and forget about her.
She was already dead to him from the Dreams. If he ever got to where she was, would he feel the same? Or would it not matter? It was clear from her dreams that there were issues there because of six years separated and growing apart. But now?
"Avoiding you sounds more like being wary and less like knowing you wouldn't do that despite the difficulty."
That's how it looked to Cora, and she knew Peter was hurt by it, even if he was trying to remain neutral. Even if he understood. Because to avoid despite knowing that meant there was a part that didn't trust you. It meant that he was wary of their uncle, as if Peter would just give in and that made her sick. Family was supposed to stick together. Even if that got fucked up beyond belief in the Dreams, family meant sticking together. There was no reason here to forsake Peter.
Who then was asking about Stiles, which caused her to scoff in disgust.
"Someone I thought I could trust until I saw how he was reacting to you dreaming. He thinks you're going to kill me and hurt Lydia because of the Dreams. He warned me against you, told me to ask Derek who said he knew you wouldn't do what he saw in the Dreams.. and then gets all upset when Lydia and I don't believe him." Yes. There was a lot of bitterness there because she had trusted him and now? "If he wasn't such an ass about it, maybe I could move past it. But no. I'm irrational because he's trying to protect me and refuses to.."
Tugging on her hair she buried her face in her hands for a moment to collect herself.
"Either way. Apparently he and Derek are dating now and I'm stuck in Abnormal Psychology with him and he's insufferable , always has to be right and clearly I'm just 'butthurt' because of what he said about you and because he upset Lydia and that's all it is."
There were air quotations involved because Stiles was insufferable and the fact that he had just pushed her feelings aside to focus on one aspect and not about what she had told him?
"But he's wrong. You're not destined to be that person no matter what he believes."
