It had been two weeks and still Cora was frustrated. No. She was afraid to know the answer, all the while needing to know the answer. If there was one thing that was always going to be important to her, it was honesty. As a rule, the Hales may not be the most forthcoming family, talk about their feelings and brush things off, but important things? Important things required honesty. And the fact that Derek had apparently given two answers about his feelings regarding Peter had her completely off balanced. Nothing was adding up, not in her family anymore. Who to trust, what to believe. There were nights she woke up struggling to breathe and it had nothing to do with Dreams and everything to do with the fact that she felt she couldn't rely on her own brother anymore.
It needed to stop. But the only way for that to happen was to figure out if Derek had lied to her about his feelings about Peter and what the Dreams meant, or if he had lied to Stiles. God she hoped he had lied to Stiles because even if Stiles made her want to punch something and she was probably running more than was healthy, if he had lied to Stiles that meant Cora could still trust Derek. She hadn't responded when he first told her about the dating and that he still loved her and she had to know that, because she didn't. Not anymore. Not when she had been struggling to know what to believe in general, and now this.
And so after class, Cora had ended up at her uncle's place. The supposed reason was that her math homework was bugging her and she needed him to make sense of it because Cora and numbers didn't get along. But really it was because she needed an answer. At this point, she didn't care if it broke her heart or not. She just needed to know.
"If I ask you something, will you be honest with me? Even if it's something you don't want to talk about?"
Promises were what she could hold onto, but here she wasn't going to request one, it didn't feel necessary. But she also needed Peter to know that she wasn't going to accept him trying to brush the question aside to focus on something else. She needed the truth.
