Who: Haymitch Abernathy and Effie Trinket When: Mid-October-ish Where: His place What: Catching up Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Effie had been busy with the sale of the house, the cars, the yacht, the plane. She sold the stocks and bonds. There was a huge estate sale. It was mostly taken care of by the lawyers, but Effie stuck her nose in and penny pinched everything. She needed as much of that money as she could possibly get. And she got a lot.
Most of it went to paying off the Old Man’s debts. What was left, Effie split up and put all over the place. Savings accounts, checking accounts, and just plain cash that she hid… everywhere. Safety Deposit boxes at different banks, and she put cash under Haymitch’s mattress.
It still hadn’t been determined if this living situation was permanent. Effie assumed this was until she was back on her feet. But she wouldn’t have minded if it wasn’t. She wanted to be with him forever.
She had a large duffel bag with cash in it when she came home that afternoon. Was Haymitch working? She wasn’t sure. She collapsed onto the sofa with a sigh.
Haymitch had been in his office sorting out various PR stunts and emergency saves when he heard Effie come home. As far as he was concerned this was her home for as long as she wanted to be here. Forever was just great.
He moved out to the living room and saw her on the sofa, “You okay sweetheart?” he asked as he came over, leaning in to kiss her lingeringly.
Effie returned the kiss, letting her hand lift to cup his cheek and keep his face close against hers. When it was finished, she nuzzled her nose against his. “...I’m better now. Are you working?” She asked. “Can you take a break for some food? I’m starving.”
“I was but I can always take a break” he told her, “What would you like to eat? I’m not sure what’s in the cupboards but we could always order in”
“Chinese?” Effie suggested. She pulled herself up off of the sofa and took his hand to lead him into the kitchen. They had a handful of order-out and delivery menus in the drawer next to the fridge. She pulled the top one out and glanced at it. “Golden Sun?” The name of the restaurant. They had excellent potstickers.
“Sounds perfect” he agreed easily, “Order whatever you like but I claim you for dessert” he grinned wrapping his arms around her from behind and kissing her neck.
Effie actually blushed, his arms wrapping around her. “...I hope that’s not an idle threat,” she whispered, turning to nuzzle her nose against the side of his head. “All right. I’ll just order the usual.” That way they both had what they liked. “Do you have to go back to work or are you mine for the rest of the night?”
“Promise. Always a promise” Haymitch told her with a grin, enjoying the feel of her nuzzling into him. He nodded his agreement, she knew what he liked by now. “I am all yours, completely and utterly to do with as you wish” he told her hands stroking over her body where they held her close to him.
Effie turned in his arms, lifting her hands to take hold of the sides of his face. She kissed him, hungrily, passionately, doing exactly what she wanted to do. Dinner was forgotten. All that mattered was her body against his, the taste of him on her tongue. She needed this--needed him. She wanted to feel good, and to make him feel good.
His arms slid around her waist as she turned and he held her tightly as they kissed. There was always the underlying passion between them, he didn’t think that was ever going to go away. They always made each other feel good, it was one of the best things about them, they worked really well as a team.
The kiss finally ended. Breathless and grinning, Effie nuzzled her nose against his once. Twice. “Let me call for food or we might starve.” She whispered, lips brushing against his.
“Mmm good call, sooner we eat the sooner we can take our time enjoying dessert” he grinned with a wink.
Effie gave a little grin. That was the best plan ever. She pulled away and grabbed the phone up again to call in the order. It only took a minute, and then she was in his arms again, cuddled close, breathing in his scent.
“You okay sweetheart?” he asked her softly, “You know I’ll help if it all gets too much” Haymitch worried about her a lot, she’d been through so much already all he wanted was to protect her.
“I know.” Effie cuddled in closer. She didn’t want to think about Ganon the loan shark, or the dead Old Man and his younger and hotter mistress. She wanted to think about Chinese food, and Haymitch’s strong arms around her, and cuddling up for a good movie.
“We got more than we expected out of the estate sale.” Keeping it in cash was probably the best idea, right? Then Ganon couldn’t come after it. Wouldn’t know about it.
Haymitch was more than willing to take her mind off things as long as they faced everything together at some point. They would need to be mindful of Ganon, Haymitch knew he wasn’t the sort to let things go.
“Yeah? Well that’s good news” he said stroking her back and pressing kisses into her hair, “Takes a bit of pressure off right?”
“A bit.” Effie’s eyes fell closed at the attention to her back, her hair. She leaned in against him, letting Haymitch comfort her. She wasn’t shy about taking comfort from his arms and lips when she needed it. And even when she didn’t.
“It’s over, though. I got the last payment today. I’m just so relieved that it’s finally done.”
Haymitch was perfectly content to be the comfort she needed at any time. He loved her and simply wanted to look after her. If it helped her to be held by him then he’d hold her all day.
“I’m glad too. You need to relax, you’ve been so worried sweetheart”
“I know.” She gave a deep sigh, cuddled close against his chest. “Now I just need to figure out what’s next. What’s the next hurdle that the world is going to throw at us to try and trip us up.”
“Well,” he said lips against her temple, “Whatever it is we’ll be facing it together and we’ll get through it. I promise”
Effie’s eyes fluttered closed again. “Don’t start. Let’s go sit and wait for the food. After dinner you can have your way with me.” With a grin, she pulled away from his chest. Her hand found his to lead him into the living room to sit.
“If you insist, I will try and control myself” he told her tone amused as he followed into the living room.
