Who: Glinda and Elphie When: Mid October Where: Glinda’s house What: Post-tether Rating/Warnings: Low/None Status: Complete
Glinda hadn’t minded being attached to Bella, she’d found the young woman to be quite sweet. But she was very glad to be back in her own house with her own things and not have to be stuck to someone else.
She’d invited Elphie round so they could have a catch up and she wanted to talk about Halloween plans with her friend. She loved Halloween and wanted to do something fun for the community. She just wasn’t sure what.
Elphaba found herself with some free time. Lúthien was spending the afternoon with Dior so she and Glinda had arranged to meet up and catch up after the craziness of the last craziness to sweep through the area. With a bottle of wine in one hand, she approached Glinda’s front door and knocked, waiting to be allowed entry.
Glinda opened the door with a smile and hugged her friend before letting her into the house. “It’s so good to see you” she said happily, “How have you been?” she asked as she led her into the kitchen, having noticed the wine bottle.
Elphaba knew the hug was coming and let Glinda do what she needed. It made her happy and to be honest, it didn’t do any harm, Elphaba figured. Smiling a her friend, she walked into the house and following her into the kitchen. “I’m good, thanks,” she smiled, putting the bottle of wine on the counter. “Still trying to get used to this,” she held up her left ring finger with a grin and a faint blush forming on her cheeks. “But its getting there.”
Nothing would stop Glinda hugging her friend so it was a good job Elphaba didn’t try to stop her. “It still looks amazing” she told her, “Getting used to being a Mrs? Does it feel any different?”
“Thank you. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to being called ‘Mrs’, I’ve been Miss Elphaba for far too long, but I’m sure it’s one of those things that comes with practice,” Elphaba reasoned. “I feel...happy, really happy,” she grinned before thinking of her Dreams. “But…”
"I'll be sure to call you Mrs Elphie if it'll help" Glinda teased before frowning at her friends hesitation, "What is it? What's wrong?"
Elphaba smiled at that. "I don't know, it's just...I've been having more Dreams lately and I keep thinking...what if Fiyero were to come into our lives? What would happen then?" It shouldn't have been something to worry her, but Elphaba pretty much always worried. "I keep thinking; life is so good, when's the other shoe going to drop, y'know?"
“You can’t let the dreams worry you. You aren’t dream Elphie, you’ve had different life experiences and upbringing here” Glinda told her, “Life is good and it will continue that way. We’ll make sure of it”
Elphaba smiled at her friend. Glinda was always so upbeat and positive. “I know, I’m just being silly,” she tried to laugh it off. She would try and put it behind her, but she felt for sure that something was going to happen. Life had rarely treated her well and not made her pay a cost for it. “How have you been since we got back then?” she asked, trying to move the conversation on.
“It’s not silly, a lot of people have worries about the dreams” Glinda assured her, “But you love Luthien and nothing will change that” On that point she was positive. “Oh I’ve been okay, pretty busy. But you know me I like being busy and on the go a lot”
“Given anymore thought to Glinda’s Tots?” Elphaba asked with a smile as she unscrewed the lid of the wine bottle. She genuinely did think Glinda would be good at some sort of daycare. She was great with Dior and her bubbly personality would more than likely enthuse any kids under her care.
Glinda laughed, “I know I like being busy but trying to do that on top of the fashion house, studying, placements and social gatherings I have to attend might be too much even for me” Though she had to admit she kind of liked the idea.
“Fair enough,” Elphaba shrugged, reaching for the wine glasses to pour out the wine. “But just so you know, if anyone could do it, it’s you,” she pointed out as she started to pour. “Speaking of social gatherings, have you heard from Effie lately? How is she doing after everything?”
“Well thank you” Glinda smiled her smile lessening only slightly as she replied, “Effie’s doing okay. Haymitch is looking after her, she’s selling all the old man’s possessions to try and deal with the debt he left her in”
“Poor woman. Such an awful way to find out all of that information,” Elphaba shook her head sadly as she handed a glass to Glinda. “It’s good that she’s got Haymitch though. Have you met him yourself?”
Taking the glass with thanks Glinda nodded, “Briefly” she confirmed, “He’s fairly quiet. Comes across as gruff but he’s been such a dream with Effie, I think he loves her very much”
“Is she staying with him? What are they doing now? I mean, without her husband’s campaign,” Elphaba asked, sipping from her glass.
“Yeah she moved in once they got back from the break they took to let the news pass” Glinda said, “You mean Haymitch? Oh he runs a PR company, he always has work. He’s very well respected, worked for Tony Stark. He still gets called in sometimes to consult with Tony’s own PR department”
Elphaba’s eyebrows raised at that. “He’s doing alright for himself then, isn’t he,” she smiled. “And Effie? Is she working or still keeping a low profile?”
“Oh yes, he’s been fairly successful since he started” Glinda nodded, “Oh no Effie isn’t working, I’m not sure she will” she added thoughtfully, “She’s just trying to carry on with things”
Elphaba nodded as she listened. “She can afford to do that? I thought her husband left in her a mountain of debt,” she frowned. “Or is Haymitch looking after them both?”
“I’m not sure exactly how much debt but I can’t imagine work is at the forefront of her mind. Haymitch will be looking out for her” Glinda replied, as far as she knew Effie hadn’t worked for years.
“Fair enough I suppose,” Elphaba supposed. So long as Effie was doing alright and coping with everything. “I only ask because I saw her last couple of posts on the Valarnet. She seemed a little...stressed,” she told her friend.
“It can be a little overwhelming” Glinda replied, “So much has changed in a short space of time. She was about to commence divorce proceedings when he died”
“Wow,” Elphaba shook her head. “Talk about timing,” she remarked with a small grimace. “Did they find out cause of death?”
“Mmmm” Glinda nodded in agreement sipping her drink, “Heart attack I believe, it seems he was in the middle of an ‘encounter’ with his mistress when it happened” she added with a pointedly raised eyebrow.
"Ah...well, there are worse ways to go I guess," Elphaba shrugged then sipped her wine. "Moving to a happier topic of conversation, are you doing a Halloween party this year?"
Glinda had to agree with that but was happy to change conversations, “Actually that’s something I was going to talk to you about. I’d like to do something for the community, I was thinking of hiring a hall and holding an all day party so fun games and the like for the children in the day then turn the space into a more adult style party in the evening?” she suggested.
"And by more adult you mean..." Elphaba trailed off, eyebrows raised as she waited for Glinda to explain exactly how adult she was thinking.
“Drinking and dancing” Glinda replied, looking at Elphie interestedly, “What were you hoping for?”
"Nothing, just checking to see if there should be an R rating on this event," Elphaba teased, grinning from behind her glass.
“I can set you up an S&M room if you’d like one” she replied with a wink, “I didn’t realise you were that naughty”
Elphaba paled a little at that, dropping her eyes to her wine. She was still wary of any kind of control when it came to sex. "No thank you," she replied quietly.
Glinda leaned over and ruffled Elphaba’s hair, “I was only joking silly dear” she told her friend affectionately.
Elphaba smiled, but shied away like a teenager from her mom. “So, I guess it would be a costumed affair?” she asked, taking a sip from her glass.
“Of course” Glinda smiled brightly, “I got my dress from the dreams did I tell you? I’m going to wear it” she said happily.
“No way! You must have been thrillified when that arrived,” Elphaba grinned with a wink as she used one of her words against her. “You’re going to look amazing, Dior’s going to love seeing his auntie Glinda all dressed up,” she smiled, thinking about it. She imagined Dior running around playing hide and seek under Glinda’s skirts.
Glinda laughed, actually rather delighted to hear her friend use the word, “I was! How did you know?” she grinned, the smile only brightening at the thought of Dior. “I can’t wait to see him too. What are you all dressing up as?”
Elphaba chuckled at that and simply shook her head. “He looks forward to seeing you too, he likes to talk about his auntie Glinda,” she told her friend with a wry smile. “We haven’t really talked about it, but I’ll suggest it to her when I get home. Have you got any suggestions?”
“Of course he does. We’re a great team he and I” she smiled, “Hmm...something fun. Dior would make a wonderful little prince” she mused.
“Aww, I can just imagine him with a little crown and a little sword,” Elphaba gushed, holding her hands up to demonstrate the size she imagined it would be. “I’ll suggest it to Lúthien. Of course, he’s getting to that point where he’s getting his own ideas,” she laughed.
“Right? Isn’t it the most adorable picture ever?” Glinda laughed before sighing, “I guess so. Maybe he’d prefer to be a power ranger or ninja turtle”
“Knowing our...unique family life he’ll probably want to dress up as Dora the Explorer,” Elphaba chuckled, imagining him in the little pink outfit. Even if he did they’d let him, she didn’t want Dior to be afraid of trying things as he grew up.
“Oh he’d make an adorable Dora” Glinda said, “Whatever he decides on it will be perfect I’m sure”
“But of course, we wouldn’t have it any other way, would we?” Elphaba smiled and held up her glass for a mini toast.
